Is Google Broken?
This seems like the sort of problem solved by a Google Search.

Here are some links (no affiliation)
You can find several inexpensive unlocked GSM phones at http://myworldphone.com/
They are a reputable dealer as per a couple of well-known cellphone forums (you might want to poke around the forums a little, and maybe even ask the question there):

As stated in the title, I have no affiliation with any of these sites. -
Re:For the Love of Money
Buy the phone from eBay or from any store - I believe carriers will unlock phones for you if they come locked and you pay full price, and independent stores are likely to have unlocked phones on hand. I don't know about month to month postpaid accounts, but I know you can buy prepaid SIMs. Here is a site that sells them (at seemingly ridiculous prices), but you can probably get them from a Cingular or T-Mobile store too.

$284.99 + $160 = $444.99
It's only priced so high so that it doesn't cannibalize ipod sales. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't seem to realize there's no reason to purchase a phone for such a premium price when you can get these:
Creative Zen Vision 30G $284.99 + Nokia 6103 $160 = $444.99
For less than this:
iPhone $499/4gb $599/8gb
Two superior devices (the best camera phone + the best portable HD based video player) for less than an overhyped, overpriced product... hmm. I wonder what people are going to buy. -
Not really good comparison
The SK3 doesn't have WiFi, it's basically nothing but a regular phone with a QWERTY keyboard and email/IM software. Not a particularly fair comparison. A better one would be something like the Nokia N80, which has WiFi and retails for around $520, MSRP $900. (source)
But even just looking at the Sidekick, it'll run you $400+ if you can find an unlocked one from a legitimate retailer.
The phone is expensive, sure, but if you want the features it offers, it's basically on par with other similar devices. The question is how many people are that interested in having Wifi that they're willing to cough up 500+ bucks? -
Re:Screw the Q, give me an A1200 running linux!Well, here you go: http://www.myworldphone.com/motorolaa1200.html $479
The only sucky thing about it is the lack of EDGE and no 802.11. Otherwise it looks like a fantastic phone.

List of devices that will work with iSync?
I want to get a power book as soon as tiger comes out on them (probably not for a few months, regardless). Is there some way to find out what devices are supported, so I can make sure to get a cellphone that is? Also, if i got a cell phone with a 128 meg card like this one (motorola E398), will I be able to back up many of my text documents (as in almost all of them, up to the storage capacity) using iSync to the phone, or just contact info?
Thanks.
