Re:Immigration brings lots of non-swimmers
Is your German that rusty? You can't even find the nose in front of your eyes?!?

Re:What a shock
In Germany, even this year, 40% of the wild boars which were tested in Saxony (hunters are required to check animals they killed for radioactivity) showed radioactivity higher than the limit of 600 becquerel/kg, which made them officially unsuitable for human consumption. Some animals even showed radioactivity as high as 9800 becquerel/kg. Articles (in German) here: http://www.neues-deutschland.d... and here: http://www.n-tv.de/wissen/Wild...
This radioactivity in the meat is caused by the boars eating mushrooms and other plants in the forest. If plants and animals in eastern Germany are still contaminated after all this time, I'd rather not eat anything from directly next to the chernobyl plant, or live there.

Re:How are nuclear weapons going to help though?
That one was actually explainable.
The equivalent of what we are seeing in Crimea, OTOH, is if Libyan insurgents were also sporting flecktarn camo, and carrying MG4 and G28 in addition to G36. Oh, and riding around on Boxers with black-red-yellow stripes painted on them.

Even worse than NY: Germany
With some cities existing for >1000 years and having been dug over in WW2, there is often no knowing of what to expect when digging through the underground. Recently a builder operating a digger was killed by a WW2 era dud. Experts estimate that there are still 100k duds lying around and each year about 5k are being found.

Re:probably not a worry
There was a test done in Finland which was also in the news in Germany last winter. The allowed operating temperature ranges for the Samsung Galaxy S2 is -20 deg C to +50 deg C, while for the iPhone it is 0 deg C to 35 deg C. In this test the Galaxy S2 was still working at -30 deg C.

22 GW not measured, but estimated
The German magazine "Spiegel" mentions that the GW are not a measurement, but a number extrapolated from the total of registered solar plants and their expected performance. The Reuters article mentions government support for the German solar industries, but neglects to mention that financial support was recently cut, leading to a series of bankruptcies. -- http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/solarzellen-liefern-leistung-von-20-atomkraftwerken-a-835417.html -- http://www.n-tv.de/wirtschaft/Weitere-deutsche-Solar-Pleite-article6262036.html

Re:Banned in the UK already
There's even a company in Germany trying to get round the ban by selling "heating globes" that happen to emit light and happen to look exactly like an old lightbulb.
yes, see here
a shipment of those has been confiscated, and the issue is going to the courts (link in German)

german magazines
the magazines i read regulary in austria (schwarzenegger) are c't, iX and the online-mag telepolis. on telepolis there're english articles too and an interessting column named WTC Conspiracy, with the first article about 9/11 posted on 9/13! other good literature is: linux magazine, freeX and of course SPIEGEL. on the web good places are golem, ORF, n-tv. unfortunately are the english magazines quite expensive (wired or hustler, both over EUR 10|-!). grtngs

Re:kids, its called appropriationThis case is a little confusing, but from what I gathered on German game-related message boards, football licenses are handled by UEFA. This goes for simulations, as well as management games. UEFA has the right to sell a license that covers player names and club jerseys, but not the players' likeness. Supposedly, Oliver Kahn sued under the "personal damage" statute for using his likeness, a fact that has caused quite an amusement.
Disclaimer: n-tv.de claims something different, that EA had no right to use the name of the player, either. I am not one to dispute what such a respectable news outlet is saying, but it strikes me as weird that nobody has sued EA before if that were the case.

Re:Excellent!in german article about this yesterday, a read that only three would actually land on mars.
imagine, travelling all the way, being in outer space in a tin can for eight months, and then one half has to stay in orbit, watch the others make history, have all the fun, and then listen to their stories about it all the way back...
- "that was _so cool_! you have to try it for yourselves some day... i wish i could do it _again_!"

Re:Closing occured on December 1st, 2000I think you're wrong. n-tv.de has the same story, and they say that the actual shutdown will take place on March 5th, 2002, on which day the Link Level Protocol (LLP) will be deactivated.
Semi-important? Yeah, the news about the last TCP/IP connection being shut down will be semi-important too, when everyone uses mind transmitters, but it's still a part of history.
