Re:Nudie Button
/sarcasm Because there isn't enough (celebrity) porn on the internet already?
:-)I guess you could always watch the news naked =P

Here's the best use
What they should put on this device is an avatar. Like the naked news, everything is better when spoken by a sexy avatar. Real or otherwise.
And a touchscreen... well, the use is obvious, isn't it?

Re:smells like dissent
Dude, be a real man and break your own taboos for a change, not that of people thousands of miles away.
I do, frequently. Or rather, those of my society.
Really, try it now and do what many cultures find an entirely natural (and harmless) form of freedom of expression: go for a walk in the street, entirely naked.
Personally? No. We have laws against it, for one. But I don't actually have a problem with that, and I have considerably less of a problem when it's not a public street, but a public website. If someone doesn't want to see me naked, or the Prophet Mohammed, it's a lot easier to avoid a website than a street.
It's roughly akin to the difference between, say, drawing Mohammed with spray paint on someone else's property, and drawing Mohammed on a website which no one is even forcing you to view.
The thing is, pretty much every western culture has taboos that run deep, and if you break them, you should expect a counter reaction.
Indeed, but the only taboo I've seen which actually results in censorship is child pornography, and the rationale there is that anyone who purchases child pornography is supporting people who abuse children. At least, that's the more rational rationale -- it seems to be a kneejerk reaction against "perverts", and I see no reason possession should be a crime.
Think boob-gate, which showed nipples for a few seconds. All the major channels introduced a 5 second delay into their live broadcasts to give the operator a chance to censor out any embarrassing scene.
In other words, they didn't want to broadcast nipples. And this is coming from independent organizations -- there are plenty of alternate sources of nipples, including Naked News if you want a serious program.
Note that, while there was a bit of an overreaction, there also wasn't a single word of legislation introduced, nor a single government action taken.
Or think how your politicians would react to a huge Facebook campaign depicting Jesus as having good sex with his wife
You mean, like this? Or maybe like this?
You still don't get it, do you? That would get a lot of people angry, yes. Worst case, Facebook would self-censor and remove it. But no laws would be passed, no government action would be taken, no websites would be blocked, and no one would die. In fact, I think the above comic shows that pretty much any amount of blasphemy is allowed, so long as you do it on your own website.
Of course, the other point you're missing is that the vast majority of Americans would shrug at even this -- sure, it would offend them, but it wouldn't drive them into a mindless rage. They'd just close that page and never come back.
The Islamic world has many taboos as well, one of them is to not depict Mohammed, because his teachings were to not idolize.
Which makes this all the more hilarious. None of these actual drawings were likely to be something anyone would idolize. While I agree with what this guy is doing, he's idolizing that name (in calligraphy) a hell of a lot more than anyone's idolizing the pedobear-in-a-turban illustration. And to be fair, there was clear idolatry, to the point of turning Mohammed into a god, without the need for any drawings whatsoever.
Arguably, from a purely scientific point of view taboos are both silly and are harmful, because they inhibit rational discussion.
I'm glad you agree.

Naked News
If, for whatever reason, it will ever begins to matter to me, who delivers the news, rather than what the news is, I'll pick the Naked News over anything "animated", thank you very much.

Re:They don't like competition
Respectable news source in the US? Yes:
They have "nothing to hide". What's that? Canada isn't the US? You just keep on watching, boy.

Re:What I read...Seriously, the only way to get respect as a journalist is to uncover something important. Ain't gonna happen in video games. Unless they start following the example of Naked News...

Re:Naked News
Oops, missed a , sorry. Was meant to be be like
Naked News has naked presenters telling about daily human existence, so this is old ;). If they just broadcast NN instead, I bet that'll get ET over here in a hurry though. -
Naked News
The two naked hosts will present their own unclothed bodies as examples of our physical embodiments, and will tell about daily human existence.

Re:Answer yes
No, it's not the best source of news. But it's the best news source in America.
It's _one of_ the best news sources in America, IMO. This, while NSFW, is also pretty nice, although not necessarily for their news coverage. -
Re:Google News
Personally, I prefer nakednews.com and their undReSS aggremagator.

The only news I trust....

Naked News
No discussion on the topic would be complete without a thorough examination of Naked News.
(For once, a post so easy that I figure I don't need preview, and what do I do? I screw it up!) -
Re:In related news...And then it dawned on them that they were 90% of the fun people on the internet, and simply built their own when they got there.
The rest of the world was left with spammers and IT support staff. Sadly the crew of NakedNews was among the overclockers.

Two words: Naked News :-)
While I agree with Nielson overall, never underestimate the porn industry to put a new medium to good use.
I mean really, how much of a stretch is it to turn something like this ... http://www.nakednews.com/ ... into a video blog or video podcast?
I know I would sign up for Cameron's feed any day :-) -
Re:Faith in numbers
I have a radio face (but my wife is hot, so I guess she could vidcast for me).
Actually, this position is what makes the article's argument completely invalid. Put a truly cute female on camera, dressed (or undressed) to tempt, and a very large cross section of guys will watch her consistantly. They won't read signs that are in the frame, and they won't look away, much. In fact, most guys wouldn't be able to tell you if there was a sign in the frame or not if you stepped in front of the content and asked them cold. They'll watch just in hope for a view a little further than usual up her skirt or down her blouse. Add content they are even mildly interested in, and they'll do it with the sound turned up. Make the content suggestive, funny, and sexually charged and they'll fight to watch it. OTOH, ask for money for it, and they'll stop watching immediately.
The reason most guys don't watch the news now (and by extension, podcasts) is because (a) the majority of guys don't want to watch another guy regardless of how he presents himself (b) those females that aren't on the Spanish channels are dressed like nuns or your mom, (c) the "news" is full of lies and spun to beat the band.
Fix those things, and guys will watch. Ladies, I don't know what they'll watch. They're different.
Me, I understand Spanish, so I'm all set for satellite broadcasting. The Spanish don't do politically correct. And thank goodness for that. On the net, there's the Naked News, that's always fun, but they're not free and they (very ill-advisedly) mess with your browser's window sizes, so it's a hassle or a strain.
It's not politically correct in today's US society to recognize that sexuality is the prime motivator for males; but that doesn't make it not so. If your hormones are working, you're paying attention to sexuality 24/7. If they're not working... well, I'm very sorry for you.

Naked NewsIf you also strip out the BS, you can watch it in 5.
If you also strip them out of skirts, you can watch it in 30 seconds.

Re:Younger, Smarter... Fairer! Balanced! Not!
Actually, your a bit behind the times.
Yeah, but all it gives to non-member is a preview (though I noticed that all the women are either born in Ontario or currently living there. Sort of like how Playboy used to get more models from BC than any other single state or province).
Must be something in the water

Naked News never went under. I wonder why that is....

Internet news?

Re:America's Army
True. I never said it wasn't. But I would rather my kids see nudity than death. What is best is when the reporters reporting on the dying are nude.

Podcast
Even better than trying to watch a tiny screen is to be able to shut your eyes and listen to one of the many Podcasts around on your way into work...
Plus you'll probably get a lot of odd looks if you are trying to watch the Naked News on the bus. -
Re:I'm beginning to be swayed...
I like a hot chick as much as the next guy, but what the hell does that have to do with the news?
Sounds like NEITHER of you have watched the best online news from Canada. They cover (and uncover) everything you might need. -
Re:Should this be YRO?
I hate to be a cynic, but I think the whole point of news reporting is to attract your attention to those crucial 8 minutes every half hour... the commerical sponsors.
What happens inbetween commercials only exists to get you to turn to their channel... after all thats why (1) products like TIVO scare the crap out of them for its ability to hide commercials, and (2) product placement in the shows themselves allows commercial time to blend with content time. Hell, CBS was running programs about books that the parent company published, and calling it news... And after all, why are the news readers so pretty... so you'll tune in.
This is also why I believe news reporters tend to become politically biased over time towards their local markets... it is their job to retain viewers/customers, and so you preach to your local markets. The political landscape is strongly correllated with urban concentrations, as are the "big" markets. The "old" big 3 broadcast media meets the needs of the cities, with its liberal leanings. Those living away from urban areas have to rely on cable and satelite, which "new" big media promptly cornered the market, and tilted their content towards their libertarian/conservative consumers. The people like like Jennings's leanings will tend to flip on ABC, and ABC gets viewers to watch its commercials, and those of the other leanings will flip on Fox, and Fox gets viewers for its commercials. Companies win, educating citizens loses. -
Guess I'll have to get my news somewhere else

Re:Online News
Heck, there's even Naked News. All news. No fluff(ers).
-
Re:My NOC is my PowerBook.
Me too! I just keep one window open with the Weather Channel, another with the Naked News, Naked News, one for Slashdot (to get the latest Windows security problems), and one for email so the users can tell me when things stop working! NOC in a box!
-
Re:Run your OWN weather station
Then may I suggest the Naked News?
-
FoxNews
FoxNews must have a giant bug up its butt if it's willing to sue the people that saved it's own sister network over something that (if possible) is even more obviously satire than Al Franken's book title. I guess when you have the name "Fox" attached to the title of your company, you have to fight to the death for every litte bit of credibility you can get your hands on.
Of course I get all my news from A Bare and Balanced News Source. -
Re:You have no choice.
WWW-based news is better than TV-based news, anyway
Tell me about it...
Graham -
Only partially tongue-in-cheek...
I think this is the ultimate form of "interactive" journalism...
The Naked News, The program with nothing to hide.
I mean, really though, those who watch this, are they really paying attention to the latest George W. Bush sound clip?
I mean, I'm all for bewbies, but has our society really gotten to the point where the only way we can get people to be interested in current events is if the ignorant public gets to see primo mammary glandage?
Good grief. -
Re:I Don't Get It
I think that the ordering of this list (Gaming, News, Pr0n, Trading stocks) should pretty obviously be:
Pr0n
News (preferably Naked News)
Gaming (Leisure Suit Larry?)
Trading stocks (Any publicly traded pr0n companies?) -
Canada, eh?So these are the people that also brought you Naked News and this?
The only logical combination would be remote-sex and telerobotic masturbation...
Actually, on the point of telerobotic-sex. How about telerobotic cooking? so maybe my mom can cook me an omlete that I can't get so often, since I live some 8000 miles away? Or have famous french chefs cook you some *real* french dinner? Or, heck, have the shit on Iron Chef telerobotically cooked in your local telerobotic restaurant / community food-center, so we can taste, and not just dool over, the fine ass dishes they make on the show? I'd pay some serious cash for the food network to be broadcasting such kinds of data. I wouldn't think it's difficult to record it and have the same meal prepared when you need that exotic whatever to save your life (say, when you get the munchies, or your pregnant wife gets the cravings, etc). Still have to buy the ingredients though...

Study proves Windows still way ahead of Linux
In reply to this post
No law says we can't use Linux or Mac. Lots of people do. Most people would agree both are < sarcasm >better than Windows </ sarcasm >.
Has any Linux user ever been able to view? :
If no, this proves that Linux lages behind windows as far as home users are concerned.
If yes, tell me how did you do it and what player did you use. My Linux real player won't play either of the two sites.....
-
Do you use Linux ?
I recently switched to SuSE Linux Professional 8.1. I like it so far (after importing my Windows fonts) but now I am beginning to miss Windows. Most websites are designed for Windows Media Player/RealOne Player/Apple Quicktime 6.0.
Linux has real player 8 which does't seem to play streaming media in Netscape or Mizilla or Konqueror.
Has anyone using Linux been able to play streaming media? (If not, you don't know what you are missing)
As a test, can any of you Linux users view:
or
-
Re:no it can't
You watch this news service, right?
;) -
Re:new formats
-
Re:new formats
You mean like this?
-
Re:Big deal
Sure, no one really cares about realplayer. But this change has the potential to allow other open source projects (mplayer, for example) to incorporate the codecs to play realplayer streams, and that is good because there is a large amount of realplayer content out there.

I get my current fodder from this excellent news site, but somehow I doubt the MP3 version, if they have it, would be quite so thrilling...

Re:Microsoft bankrupt as Porn sites go Open Source"However, when was the last time you actually went to a porn page for stock quotes, news headlines, driving directions or hotel accomodations, etc?"
You haven't heard of Naked News? (Warning: nudity -- I'm not sure how bad the main page is, since I'm using lynx at the moment. But it's not a hoax.) It's big enough that it actually got regular television news coverage when they were looking for male anchors to balance out the cast.

Naked Newscasters also help drive addiction rates
Yeah, really easy to get addicted when watching Naked News!
Harpers July Index says they have 6 million visitors per month. And apparently, the are the first net cast to go cable cast as well! Now, I finally have a reason to watch the news..... -
