Re:So?
Also, I ran into the following on-target quote just now on Neatorama, and I hopped right back here to append it:
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy.
- Ernest Benn, publicist (1875 - 1954)

No... THIS sums it up.

The Taxman is coming
I couldn't believe this, there really is (well, was) a window tax. According to http://www.neatorama.com/2007/04/19/what-wont-the
y -tax/ ... Now, can we get some boards on the monitor please?
----------
WINDOW TAX
Pitt the Younger also tried a chimney tax, but found that windows were easier to count. People paid the tax based on the number of windows in their home. Result: a lot of boarded-up windows. -
Re:One fixThere's a lot that's either just so blatantly obvious or lame that it's hard to believe they consider these "wild". I'd hate to see Wired's parties
... To try to be a little more "wild" with predictions, here are mine ... I'll bet at least one pans out:- Gootube is sued by a consortium of Music Publishers, and caves hard to copyright protections
- RIAA creates their own music sharing program cloaked as an offshore company, then gathers IPs and sues thousands of file sharers
- Steve Jobs will step down amidst some scandal, either stock options or due to random trysts with Apple interns
- The OLPC project will be featured on Sesame Street, and become the hot holiday product of 2007 for small children
- Yahoo will make at least 2 ridiculously overpriced purchases, at least one will either be Facebook, or a floating dirigible high over Texas (similar to the banana over Texas
... which surprisingly is a real project)

A-HAH! So YOU'RE the person behind this picture. Personally, my clothes don't require any power. -

Unthinkable!
What?! Issue the alert for all iPod owners to report immediately to Sector Woz for re-Jobsification!
You know, it's crazy when a consumer tells you that if another product is better they would probably switch to it. Pure madness. Everyone knows that when you buy an electronics device, you have committed to a long term relationship to the manufacturer! The world is awash with computing hussies! How many times must we stress monogamous relationships with your MP3 players? And now you can walk down the street and people are just giving it away for free! I try to warn everyone but this is exactly how you get infected!
I dated a girl once and she had the gall to own three or for different brands of music players. Yeah, I know it's disgusting. I eventually had to break up with her--I kept having nightmares of her with just ear buds and headphones sticking out of her ears ... and the whole time Bill Gates was standing there with a coffee mug snorting and laughing. I just couldn't look at her the same anymore ... and then when she bought a third party docking station, I just had to break it off. Don't worry, nothing of mine ever touched her ears. Whore. -
Re:Surpise?
A 5 ton elephant could take on a 800lb Gorilla I'm sure. But what about a 300lb cat?
Consider. I way 150lbs, so an equivalent feline would weigh 150lbs * ( 300 / 800 ) = 56lbs that's 25kilos
About half the size of this cat here.
So a imposing kitty by all means, but I do't think it could take me down.
Amazingly, Google is unable to find pictures of 56lb cats so that I can estimate their fighting skills, the closest is Katy, a 50lb Russian cat from here
http://www.neatorama.com/2006/05/08/top-15-amazing ly-ginormous-fat-cats/
It seems to me that the size of a cat doesn't increase it's combat effectivness. Indeed a hungry and fit 7kilo cat with quick claws and ninja ambush training would be more of a threat. -
Re:Christian Science Monitor
Indeed. I'd been initially very skeptical of any publication with the name "Christian Science Monitor".. until I read a few of their pieces. They're well-written, and actually very well respected, with good reason. Check the Wikipedia Article, they have almost no religious affiliation, great reporting (seven time Pulitzer winner), and stick their neck out for reporters on the line.
Also, off-topic a little, but if you live in or plan on visiting Boston anytime.. check out the Mapparium, which is located in a library belonging to the CSM. I wasn't too impressed by the thought of seeing what's essentially a really large globe until I actually got to go inside.. the acoustics alone are enough to take your breath away -- you can hear the faintest whisper along the inner diameter (a long way). Pictures don't do it the faintest justice, but here's one. -
bah...
bah, Neatorama had this many days ago, and they had the sense to hilight No. #78, "One in 18 people has a third nipple".
