(2) The name servers ns1.torrent-finder.com and ns2.torrent-finder.com, as well as the torrent-finder.com ALL redirect to addresses in a private hosting company (74.81.170.108,
.109 and .110 respectively), physically in Charlotte, NC. The picture you're greeted with is served from one of the hosting company's addresses."->>ALL the seized hosts are coming from using 74.81.170.108, 74.81.170.109 as their dns; and they ALL point to the same IP 74.81.170.110
(3) Whois reports the registrar to be Go Daddy, but the name servers ns1 and ns2.seizedservers.com whose IP addresses aremanaged by a private company called "wild west domains".
(4) The "seizedservers.com" domain is controlled by a company called "immixGroup IT solutions". The registrar is network solutions and the registrant is using network solution's privacy service to block his contact identity.
->>"seizedservers.com" also belongs to CaroNet Managed Hosting, and not "immixGroup IT solutions".
The whois just claims it's immxgroup, but the actual domain seizedservers.com belongs to and resolves to that same IP (74.81.170.110) they are all using at CaroNet.

Re:A neutron walked into a bar and asked
There are jokes on slashdot we "get" everyday without seeing - mainly Futurama quotes in the HTTP headers. I've known about this for a while, and before I discovered that (very useful) nwtools.com site, I would just telnet port 80 to get them. On that note, anyone know of a good futurama video site?

Children are young, not stupid.
http://www.network-tools.com/
http://www.bankes.com/nslookup.htm
http://www.zoneedit.com/lookup.html
Type in a name (say, whitehouse.com) and they magically retrieve an IP (in this case 66.129.115.23). Neat, eh?
These were all in the first five Google results for "DNS lookup," which isn't that hard a phrase to remember, even if you don't know what it means. I have seen middle-schoolers use SOCKS and CGI proxies to bypass filters on MySpace; you are gravely mistaken if you think they're not capable of something as trivial as performing manual lookups of a few well-known domain names. -
Re:no trust?
If you're unable to resolve a certain name, you can always use something like this to get the IP address. I was at my mom's house on crippled dialup and this allowed me to reach a couple of unresolveable names.

Frey?????
Is Frey a common last name? Because the person who submitted this news item about Tom Frey is none other than Darby Frey (a.k.a Deb Hellman)

Re:The "problem" with Futurama
Its one of the few shows that I don't understand why it is NOT 'embraced' by slashdot, yet Buffy is.
How do you come to that conclusion? I get the impression that most slashbots are huge Futurama fans.
Oh, and in case there's any doubt as to whether CmdrTaco / jamie / the-slascode-team are fans, have a look at the http headers of this site some time... -

This reminds me of a humourous day at work. I had done a bit of php programming in my spare time on a site where medical students could get sample problems (or entire quizzes) based on what class they were in. About a week after I handed it over to a medical student to maintain, he had emailed me that some people had been trying to access php pages that were non-existant (basically passing variables in the URL that weren't valid database entries). He was worried that somebody was trying to hack his system. He logged some offending IP addresses and sent them to me in an email.
This is where it gets sorta funny
So I headed over to network-tools.com and looked up the IPs. Each one of them resolved to a webcrawler for a search engine. So I emailed him back explaining that it was just the search engines indexing his pages. It took several more emails to convince him that it was harmless.
Now that I look back at this anecdote, it doesn't seem that humorous, but I guess at the time I was pretty amused by the fact that a medical student was panicking thinking that a webcrawler was 'hacking' his system (if you're wondering, btw, these online quizzes have absolutely no weight in the medical school courses -- it's just for practice).

Re:Link please
I know its not really Micro$oft. The address, after being converted from base 10 to ip, is here. Spammers do this trick all the time.
