Re:Cash
This is why I use federal reserve notes for everything I can.
That might not be as sure-fire as you think...

Re:Helping Microsoft with Analogies
If that's Microsoft's position, than clearly this organization is just another profiteer.
And a polluter which causes some of the problems the foundation is supposedly working to alleviate. It's one of the investors in the Italian petroleum giant Eni which has a bad environmental record.

Re:Huh?
That's the first I have heard of that. You got anything I can verify it on?
I think you are confusing something. Here is a story on Bob Woodward's testimony as the editor of the post.
It clearly names an unknown government source as the source of the leak. Robert Novak, who first received the information says Armatage was the leak. I'm not sure what your saying came out in the trial, but I would like to see it. So far, a google search doesn't seem to be bringing anything up for me. -
Sorry, but we ASKED our government to enable thisEveryone is so busy Bush-bashing that they conveniently forget that Bush was roundly criticized for not mobilizing the Army to rush to the aid of Katrina victims in New Orleans. What people DO NOT REALIZE is that mobilizing the Army to use in civilan issues was strictly prohibited by the Posse Comitatus act. Why? Mainly so the government wouldn't abuse the army's power against it's populace. Of course, we all cry bitterly when then government doesn't marshall all of it's resources (including the army) to help citizen victims of a natural disaster. It couldn't, you see. It was illegal. From Wikipedia "The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act substantially limit the powers of the Federal government to use the military for law enforcement." (emphasis mine)
That was the state's responsibility, but since everyone has pretty much accepted the incompetence and corruptness of Louisiana's government, we pretty much absolved them from being able to take care of themselves. Sooo, after much criticism about the government not jumping in to help out, Bush clears the way so that at the next natural disaster, the army can roll on in and restore order. That's what people ASKED for!So everyone step away from the knee-jerk "ohmiGAWD!!! BUSH IS TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!" reaction and realize that this is what the majority of the people wanted. Don't want your government to be your mother? Then don't ask it to pick up your mess, your city's mess, and your state's mess when lack of foresight leads to disaster. It's the mark of an adult that they can pick up after themselves.
Want links? Here's one blog on how long the Posse Comitatus act has been being undermined since the 1980's by both Republicans and Democrats alike http://www.thenationaldebate.com/blog/archives/20

Or how about another that predicts (in Sept of 2005) that the mandate against using federal troops will be loosened? http://newsmine.org/archive/security/posse-comitat us/senator-revisits-posse-comitatus-after-katrina. txtJust do any google search on Posse Comitatus and Katrina and you'll see why government felt it was ok to edit the Comitatus act. We WANTED our government to do it.

Re:Disinformation
I don't think the Intelligence Agencies are that stupid.
This is the same intelligence agency which couldn't find a known terrorist who was listed in the Los Angeles telephone book, had a driver's license, social security card, and public record entries.

Re:low tens of millions? hardly
First off, the wealth was that of his family, not his wealth personally--he was one of many children of a wealthy father. Second, if he already has that wealth, buying less oil will not take away what he already has. Most importantly, I'm talking about the "budget"--how much needs to be spent each year to keep terrorist organizations running--not the "cash reserves" of those organizations. In any case, my fundamental claim that al Qaida was funded by low tens of millions is backed up (link). Admittedly, al Qaida does not represent the whole of global terrorism, but the fact is that terrorism is relatively cheap to fund.

Re:I can't imagine that you'll agree, butThere is certainly no proof that Bush is currently planning on assasinating Chavez. However there is a lot of evidence that the White House and the National Endowment for Democracy, along with the NSA, CIA, and parts of the military did back the attempted coup against him in 2002. It is not inconceivable that the US government will turn their attention on him again in the future, perhaps when the oil market stabilizes a little.
Let me add my two cents on this issue. I am no die hard Chavez supporter, being that I am a libertarian and he is a socialist, but my suspicians are raised when we are sold this battle on false premises. We are supposed to believe that he is a dictator who is reversing democratic trends in the hemisphere, yet this is just plain not true. He has been democraticaly elected, and he has survived a recall election (by a large margain) and a military coup. He may blow claims of US interference out of proportion, but that doesn't mean there is no interference going on. It's easy to be paranoid when the most powerful people in the world really are out to get you.

Re:Osama's code-name
A little off-topic (but interesting) bit of trivia, is that Osama's code-name in the CIA was Tim Osman.
-
He used an alias for what exactly?
It was discovered that he was using an alias to get past White House security.
Uh, no. He was using an alias, but White House security requires you to give your name, address and social security # to get press credentials and access to CIA documents. They do a background check.
No, this guy did not "get past" White House security. He was a ringer, a shill, for the White House. A go-to guy when questions get tough.
How long had Talon news existed when "Gannon" got his press credentials? I just heard (have not yet confirmed) it was less than a week. And Talon News (Metatag: "Talon News is your source for unbiased news coverage and no-spin reporting. If you want the facts without all the slant, Talon News is the place to go for political, national, and international news.") is affiliated with who?
GOPUSA. How many of their 'no-spin' news stories were rewrites of GOP press releases?
Never mind that they've been paying off reporters to promote their agenda. Does anyone remember reporters Karen Ryan or Alberto Garcia from last year?
We can't trust the science. We are not told the truth until it's too late. Now we can't trust the independent reporting of what we think is the media.
Our country is in some deep trouble. -

Deutsche Securities, eh? That sounds familiar...
"Mystery of terror 'insider dealers'
By Chris Blackhurst
14 October 2001
Share speculators have failed to collect $2.5m (1.7m) in profits made from the fall in the share price of United Airlines after the 11 September World Trade Centre attacks.
The fact that the money is unclaimed more than a month later has re-awakened investigators' interest in a story dismissed as coincidence.
It may be that investors who were able to predict the share price crash so skilfully are reluctant to be seen profiting from tragedy. But investigators now wonder whether there is a more sinister explanation.
The authorities are examining the possibility that if they knew what was coming, traders were intent on taking their profits immediately, before regulators had woken up to any possible scam. But investors failed to foresee that the first response of the US stock markets to the disaster was to suspend all trading for four days, thereby denying them the chance of cashing in their profits.
Further details of the futures trades that netted such huge gains in the wake of the hijackings have been disclosed. To the embarrassment of investigators, it has also emerged that the firm used to buy many of the "put" options - where a trader, in effect, bets on a share price fall - on United Airlines stock was headed until 1998 by "Buzzy" Krongard, now executive director of the CIA.
Until 1997, Mr Krongard was chairman of Alex Brown Inc, America's oldest investment banking firm. Alex Brown was acquired by Bankers Trust, which in turn was bought by Deutsche Bank. His last post before resigning to take his senior role in the CIA was to head Bankers Trust - Alex Brown's private client business, dealing with the accounts and investments of wealthy customers around the world.
There is no suggestion that Mr Krongard had advance knowledge of the attacks.
Between 6 and 7 September, the Chicago Board Options Exchange saw purchases of 4,744 "put" option contracts in UAL versus 396 call options - where a speculator bets on a price rising. Holders of the put options would have netted a profit of $5m (3.3m) once the carrier's share price dived after 11 September. On 10 September, more trading in Chicago saw the purchase of 4,516 put options in American Airlines, the other airline involved in the hijackings. This compares with a mere 748 call options in American purchased that day. Investigators cannot help but notice that no other airlines saw such trading in their put options.
It was not just airlines that were targeted by remarkably canny investors. One of the biggest occupants of the World Trade Centre was Morgan Stanley, the investment bank. In the first week of September, an average of 27 put option contracts was bought each day in its shares. The total for the three days before the attacks was 2,157. Merrill Lynch, anotherWTC tenant, saw 12,215 put options bought in the four days before the attacks, when the previous days had seen averages of 252 contracts a day."
