Re:Countermeasures against HBGary
Also, in some countries, you can get in trouble for failing to pay bribes
William Rhodes Davis profited from selling fuel to the Third Reich. Prescott Bush was a director of a corporation which existed solely to funnel funds to the S.S., and could not possibly have been ignorant of the activities whatever Wikipedia has to say on the subject. Davis was discredited and later died in a plane crash. We know what happened to Bush.
-
Hah!
So you think Google is the rule, and not the exception? Most modern corporations have the will to skirt US law to sell to countries like Iran, Cuba, North Korea, and so forth, despite trade embargoes. US companies helped themselves and Hitler make a killing during WWII. (A guy named Prescott Bush even got in some trouble for it.) The US and her corporations armed Indonesia in the genocide of the East Timorese, right through the 90s. We are still responsible for 70% of the arms sales in the world, all manufactured by US corporations.
So, no. As long as the Chinese government is paying cash, corporations will ignore everything else. Just like they always do.
Hell, US investment in China skyrocketed after Tiananmen Square, because China proved they were willing to kill their own citizens to maintain order while they opened China up to "investment" in the Special Economic Zones. Meanwhile, Cuba is under an embargo because it's a communist state? I think we can all see the true value system of the American corporation. Just be glad you're on this side of the equation -- for now.
-
But What About Free Trade???Folks, it sounds more and more like a communist state here in the good old US of A every day. We're a CAPITALIST society! The way capitalism works is that you let the market decide. Them's the basics. Now if our government is going to go getting their nose in the business of companies that are making a lot of us a lot of money, then maybe it's time to oust the government. Google or any other large tech industry business has every right to bil... err... profit in any country in the world they see fit. Grandpa Bush and IBM new that even in WWII. They didn't let little things like the holocust get in the way of profitable business deals. And why should they have? As I like to say, "ethical concerns always get in the way of progress".
So now we have the people that we put into office trying to step on the rights of companies like Google to succeed in business. We voted in people who have betrayed our trust. Instead of applauding these successful companies for their large profits and the wealth they bring to our country, they instead trample their right to profit in the name of some illusory moral concerns. If we, as a nation, had any balls we'd be voting these bufoons out of office before they start taking our guns away and throwing us in gulags.

Common sense, does it exist?
9/11 was preventable. We got pwned by leaving the cockpit doors open even though it was "common" knowledge that the most effective way to thwart hijackings was to NEVER let the bad guys take control of the airplane. If they can manage to crash it, or kill every passenger, so be it. El Al figured this out in the 70's, yet the FAA was too fucking stupid to pay attention.
Similarly, the Bush administration ignored the valuable information it received from Richard Clarke and even their own Condoleezza Rice. Their motives are unknown, but it's worth considering that maybe they wanted a war from the beginning. The cost can be measured in the trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives.
Hurricane Katrina was an act of nature. Maybe it was a side effect of intelligent design, but that doesn't matter. The lesson is that valuable information was ignored. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that category 3 levees won't hold a category 5 storm. A stomping wonder horse could have saved more lives than the horse judge BushCo put in charge of FEMA.
Cybersecurity is nothing to joke about, yet the one company which has been responsible for the most damage has already been given a walk for other serious crimes. This government will do nothing to make them act responsibly. MS isn't the only one, but they are the prime example. Banks are another obvious concern, but I don't think the Feds will keep them in control now any more than they did during the S&L scandal of the 80's. We shouldn't be surprised. Bush is a family man, and his family has historically put their own interests above those of the USA. -
Re:Trolling?
Or is someone just trying to stir up a liberal/conservative debate?
Of course someone is. The 'controversial' link in the article text is to a well-known Nazi/white power bottom-feeder Bush-worshipping site. -
Re:True LiesSorry.
You've been suckered. The point is not "who lied about what". The point is "who was where"?
- Fact -- Kerry was in Veitnam, fighting like a REAL patriot and true soldier.
- Fact -- Bush* was a wussy silver-spoon whose family connections got him States' side duty in the National Guard along with a lot of other sons of wealth and power.
Whether or not the same TV network that was the MOST PRO-WAR network by far in the run-up to Iraq acquired some dubious documents that indicate Bush couldn't even be troubled to PERFORM the cushy States' side job he was given is also AFTER THE FACT.
Let's FOCUS, people!
If you want a listless frat-boy silver-spoon type for President who'll sit there in office as a figure head for the rest of the Bush Administration...then VOTE FOR BUSH (AGAIN!).
If you want someone who was brave enough to VOLUNTEER for active-service duty in Vietnam, who's actually demonstrated that his character will allow him to perform in the ways we need a President to, then VOTE FOR KERRY.

Re:Randi Rhodes of Air America Quotes.Hmmm..
Well, I responded with a joke to your comment which was IMHO quite incorrectly modded as flamebait since you were, in fact, correct if perhaps offtopic (no more than the parent you were responding to if so though) and you come back with an ignorant response to my sig.
Do you know anything but attack?
Well, the fact that there is one station in the country airing any sort of response to the mindless hate spewing from oh so many radio and TV stations is scary to you, I guess. But the fact is that there is no comparison between the raw evil hatred spewing from the right wing fanatics and Air America.
Some examples:
They are bad men. Very bad men.... They're dangerous. They distort your mind.
Presumably you don't agree with this? Well, people will believe the most irrational things.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." -Ann Coulter on Muslim nations.
Oh yeah, the right wing nutjobs are *really freaking dangerous*
Oh, I'm sorry, that was hateful of me, right?
Although... I am Glad that Laura Bush is in the White House... She believes that a child beginning at the very earliest age must be taught (how to respect the servants). What a great job she did with Jenna and the "other one". But by now I think the secret service must be used to those late night runs to the convenience store for beer, rolling papers, and condoms.
Well, let's see. Laura Bush killed her old boyfriend. George was an alcholic coke addict. Yet they are the "family values" types. Hmmm...
Their family has a pretty bad record. From actively supporting the Nazi's during world war 2, to raising Crack addicts, the family clearly has no sense of decency or any clue as to what it takes to raise a decent human being. Now the Bush twins (so far as we know ) just like to get falling down drunk, which is typical for college, but given that their dad is a non-drinking but unreformed alcoholic, the odds of them turning out that great are pretty slim. Now, granted they didn't ask to be where they are. It is so awful to attack the children of a public figure. The right wingers would never imply that known college partiers were partying, would they.
No, they attack 13 year old girls for things they have no control over."Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat. Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is a White House dog?" Limbaugh said on TV, before holding up a picture Chelsea.--Rush Limbaugh
In fact, they actually advocate murdering her:
Here's a real nice piece of work from John Derbyshire, Natonal Review:Chelsea is a Clinton. She bears the taint; and though not prosecutable in law, in custom and nature the taint cannot be ignored. All the great despotisms of the past -- I'm not arguing for despotism as a principle, but they sure knew how to deal with potential trouble -- recognized that the families of objectionable citizens were a continuing threat. In Stalin's penal code it was a crime to be the wife or child of an "enemy of the people". The Nazis used the same principle, which they called Sippenhaft, "clan liability". In Imperial China, enemies of the state were punished "to the ninth degree": that is, everyone in the offender's own generation would be killed, and everyone related via four generations up, to the great-great-grandparents, and four generations down, to the great-great-grandchildren, would also be killed. (This sounds complicated, but in practice what usually happened was that a battalion of soldiers was sent to the offender's home town, where they killed everyone they could find, on the principle neca eos omnes, deus suos agnoscet -- "let God sort 'em out".)

Re:Watching Google
I would prefer to watch google like a chickenhawk
See that innocent looking computer housing facility?
Look again, it's a weapons lab.
"oh they can't be bad they play hockey and are 'nice' guys".
Wrong again buddy, hockey comes from canada, besides - that's a terrorist training camp in there.
we have much evidence to this fact here and here
don't believe these guys, they are just dripping in liberal "we-need-evidence-and-a-backbone-transplant" bias.
Those bleeding purple heart liberals just don't want to go into google and sort those bastards out. They are all like "we don't love our country enough" and they read subversive sites on the net. Luckily with a little help from the NSA encryption breakers (why you think we stopped banning crypto exports? hahahahaah) we have tagged them all into various MATRIX databases. Man do these guys buy some wishy-washy new-age crap from amazon along with their stalinist polemics.
"Zen and the art of coding simple command line LISP interfaces to your home enema machine" WTF?!?!?
We had to shut down one of the matrix databases the other day though, because it was comming up with all the ahem "younger" porn searches from our nations outstanding religious leaders who have really rallied behind the national cause to spread fear and crush dissent.
anyway, google is being invaded, the economy is too down and I owe the saudis too many favours to let Saddam Bin Laden, Hussien... whatever, from getting away with threatening us from the google compound. Just last week I typed "saddam" into their search engine to find sattelite pictures of him to blow his ass up.... and what do I find? THIS a freaking tribute page to saddam from the google guys. I was like OMG you guys are *SO* getting your asses invaded. And then I was like "where are they?" and I looked it up and they WERE IN AMERICA.
This is no cuba-on-our-door-step type senario this is a national emergency. So I waved my anthrax wand at those UN guys we pay to look fair and they agreed that out intel was TIP TOP.
and I rang up google and I was like (in my best john wayne voice)"ITS THE END OF THE LINE YOU COMMIE TERRORISTS, YOU AND YOUR WEAPONS WILL BE DESTROYED"
And the operator was like "Let the American infidels bask in their illusion"
It was then that I knew that we are right, and that god is on our side. I just held the mission acomplished party of a big beefy boat and we are set to invade tommorow!

Re:Dishonest
LA Times yes, one of ONLY 2 PAPERS to break the initial Watergate break-in (The other being the Washington Post). I do not read the Voice, though I have heard it is a good paper. I also read the Phoenix New Times and most importantly, the OLDEST Newspaper in America the New Hampshire Gazette LIVE FREE OR DIE, BABY!

Re:trustOTOH, looking at the history of 20th century US wars, not one was started by soldiers. Politicians are the ones who lead us into wars. Soldiers are the ones who die fighting them. Learn the difference.
I think what makes this war different is that it was started by politicians who purposefully avoided serving as soldiers when they had the opportunity. From Eisenhower to Bush Sr., every American president had some sort of military service (even Reagan's duties of making training films count) until Clinton came to office in '92, but Clinton didn't purposefully start a war in the Middle East, either.
Maybe we should go back to having a veteran in the White House so the nation is lead by someone who has been in battle and knows what our armed forces are going through. Even Colin Powell once admitted that war is hell and that he would consider himself a dove in a Newsweek article last year before toeing the line with the administration. Having that sort of perspective may have prevented this entire thing in Iraq from happening in the first place, although such conjecture is pointless since our administration currently lacks any useful perspective and we're already over there torturing Iraqis and wasting young American lives.
-
I Trust The Generals Before The Politicians
Some of them thought this war was a bad idea from the get go. Indeed, it seems many of those who wanted this war the most never served at all. I'd trust a general who's been blooded - had his boys (and girls) die in droves - to think a little harder about sending more to die.
-
Re:never too late...
Other outs:
Having "other priorities".
"unable to serve because of his bad knees, but somehow is able to totter along as a recreational runner."
"all the positions had been taken by blacks and hispanics."
Too busy on the wrestling team.
Or having an anal cyst.
(Source mostly from here.
Remember, when they come for you, tell them you have other priorities; if it was good enough for the vice-president, it must be good enough for you! -
Re:one real
Wow, he must be only twenty or thirty feet away, in a crowd, no less.
If anyone reads anything into that pic, they're really reaching.
Of course the guy's at a peace rally. Unlike the majority of the people there, Kerry had an actual understanding of war, and actual combat expiriences that led him to protest the war after his return.
The realness of the other photo in no way discredits Kerry as a candidate, or as veteran. He was one of many Viet Nam veterans who had the balls to speak out against the war when he returned.
A lot of crap is comming out from the right-wing chickenhawks who are beginning to realize that this is a candidate who served in some of the worst combat zones any vet has seen, and earned a Bronze Star, a Silver Star, and Presidential Unit Citation while doing so. The guy has a dislike for the intelligence community and has gone after them before.
Real or not, I'm pretty sure those pictures are not going to make a whole hell of a lot of difference.

Bush Ladens
More like Dubya -> Dad -> Papa bin Laden -> Osama. How about Dubya -> Grampa Prescott -> Fritz Thyssen -> Hitler? Dubya -> Rumsfeld -> Saddam? Pretty cozy, huh? Kevin Bacon would kill for an agent like Dubya's. Reality is nastier than even your "army of one" fantasy.
-
Re:Color of Bill Clinton bill?
The colour of the Dubya, Cheney and Rumsfeld bills would be yellow then I guess, since they all escaped military deployment through their connections.

Re:Dangerous G Forces?
No, George Bush senior was a decorated fighter pilot and war hero. His son flew Trainers for a while, but it didn't take, so he then went AWOL from the Reserves.
