As an American living abroad ...
... all I can do is to shake my head in disbelief.
I had no part in electing Obama into the White House, in fact, I actively supported the alternative candidates (both times), but the force was with the bamadrones and he got re-elected again, and again.
If you guys haven't realized it, here's the fact
...In the year 2010,, Obama has classified 77 MILLION PAGES OF DOCUMENTS. In comparison, George "the idiot" Bush's highest score was 54 million pages, in year 2008.

Re:NSA doesn't like the system it created???
And arguably, the only reason Iraq ended was that Manning's revelations of war crimes made it politically impossible for the Iraqi government to extend the Status of Forces Agreement which was set to expire in December 2011. Obama tried hard to get it extended, couldn't, and so pulled out. In other words, without Manning, Obama wouldn't be able to claim credit for ending the war in Iraq (the truth of course, is that he just failed to extend it, which isn't in the same moral ballpark as "ending" it).

Re:No tech content?
but there's more to this than "I'm a Democrat and expected Obama to do the right thing because he's a Democrat, too".
I'd like to believe that but as I said, Obama's presidency is proof against your assertion. Take for example Marty Lederman. He used to excoriate the GWB administration for using secret memo to support due process free detention (Gitmo). When he became part of the Obama administration, he began _writing_ Obama's secret memos "authorizing" (*) due process free execution.
Exactly what besides "my tribe uber alles" can account for that 180 degree switch in position on the core question of whether a person is entitled to trial before punishment is exacted?
Or try to have a conversation with an Obama apologist, and try to get a straight answer to the question: why was it wrong for GWB to put people in jail without trial, but not wrong for Obama to kill people without trial? Eventually, after all the deflections, slogans, and GWB-blaming, you'll get down to the core: I trust Obama and I did not trust Bush. I did this once with a frequent poster on my local paper's website and that is exactly what he said. His avatar is a picture of Bush with "worst ever" written over it. That is tribal politics, nothing else, and I think it accounts for much more of what we see than it is given credit for.
The ways in which Obama has extended the GWB era policies are legion. I started to list those before burning out on the project -- I've not updated this in a year, but you can sort of get an idea: http://nothingchanged.org/ Despite the plain facts, people still support him, and nothing can explain that besides the fact that he's a member of their tribe. The silence we hear from "progressives" is proof positive that policy doesn't matter because if it did, the same people that burned GWB in effigy, would be doing that to Obama. He's that bad from a policy perspective. And of course, all those GOPers should be praising him as much as Dick Cheney has praised him. But they don't. They call him a Marxist for coming up with a health care plan to the right of that proposed by Nixon. It really is tribal, at least for the most part.
(*) legal memos written by your own lawyers are not laws, they are opinions, so to suggest there is some authority there is ridiculous.

Nothing Changed
The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case over the objections of the Obama administration, which had urged the justices to leave the lower court rulings in place.
Wasn't Bush's support of Monsanto one of the myriad things progressives despised him for? What happened to all that "change we could believe in"? Guess this is another entry for Nothing Changed .

Re:I wouldn't.
No, they've just been allowing the same ones who came up with credit default swaps come up with their cap and trade scam, remember those? Nearly wiped out the economy while making insider corps crazy rich?
Cap and trade is a scam by the dems friend that lets them hand out YOUR money to THEIR friends, isn't that nice? don't that make you feel happy peasant? How about how they are listening to the AlGore while ignoring that Rev Al has set himself up to become a billionaire off the scam? BTW did you know he has the brass balls to say that farting around in his private Lear jet and fleet of limos is carbon NEUTRAL, because he pays himself carbon credits from his own company? This would be like me moving money from my right to my left pocket, calling it "wealth redistribution" and getting a fucking tax break for it!
This is of course ignoring the facts that Obama has a "jobs czar" that got paid taxpayer money to send jobs to China, over 10,000 in fact, that his VP is a paid shill for the media companies, the 20 billion he passed out to "friends of Obama" using "green energy" as an excuse, that every single petition that has been anything other than "Can you tell us how you are so wonderful?" has gotten a flowerly "LOL fuck off peasant" response, refused to stop illegals and tied the hands of Arizona when they tried to protect Americans which are dying every day. But that's okay, right? after all he's "one of us" so he is "good" and therefor the other must be "bad" right? All go to hell except cave 76!
Maybe you ought to look at your dear leader's record and tell me what EXACTLY would have been different if it had been McSame instead of Nobama? The ONLY difference i can see is instead of giving away your money under the guise of "national defense" he gives it away under "green jobs", yep that makes a big difference friend, handing out money to the top 5% is totally different if it has the word green in it! It has what plants crave!

Re:this woman is an attorney?
I'm not going to have another George W. Bush type president on my conscience,
Then WTF are you doing voting for Obama?
This is my tally on 22 highly important issues:
Worse than Bush: 8
Same as Bush: 9
Better than Bush: 2
Worse than Bush, but not Obama's fault: 1
Better than Bush, but not Obama's accomplishment: 1
Can't make a fair comparison: 1 -
Re:A Very New Petition
Uhhh..as an American Dubya got that nick because that is how the man said "W" when he pronounced his name. it was like Ford and falling on his butt, Bush had a VERY thick accent when it came to certain words or phrases and the comedians ran with it and Dubya stuck in the minds of many of us.
Sadly there are NO cute nicknames for Obama because he has turned out to be nothing but a giant lying sellout, and this is from someone who has voted D since Bush senior. As much as i didn't like Bush's policies at least the man was consistent in his beliefs and stood by them, Obama told one story on the campaign trail and then did a full 180 when he made it to the big chair. He has been nothing but divisive, tried to run a false flag op to get guns banned with fast & furious , and the only consistency in his administration has been to lie and divide the country, look at how he jumped into the Martin case without even bothering to find out any facts. he should be blamed for every race riot and attack on whites caused by that dumb ass political move.
But don't take my word for it friend, I'm sure you folks overseas don't have a great opinion of our president and if you look up what he said VS what he did you'll see the man lied his ass off. Most of us are pretty much expecting massive waves of violence and race riots when he loses in November because he has done nothing but stir up hate between the races and figure it'll be Watts riots all over again. that is the state of American politics friend, scary ain't it?

Never forget
And let's not forget that people elected this administration because it was supposed to stop all of the Bush administration's abuses. Instead it merely built upon them, nearly every single one.

Re:anyone surprised?
Bush went to war against Iraq, Obama got us out. Can you see the wee-bit of difference there? I can and I'm voting for Obama.
This notion you have is so misinformed it's appalling.
Obama did not leave, Obama got booted. Dec. 2011 marked the end of the Status of Forces Agreement negotiated by GWB. SOFA prevented the Iraqi government from local prosecution of US troops for crimes committed in Iraq. Prior to the expiration of SOFA, Obama tried to get it extended so that the troops could stay longer and avoid any risk of prosecution. Obama failed in those negotiations, in large part because the war crimes confirmed in the WikiLeaks cache, made it politically impossible for Iraqi politicians to extend SOFA.
In other words, you are giving Obama credit for ending the war in Iraq when he tried to EXTEND it. To put this in Slashdot car analogy form, that's like giving a drunk driver accolades for not killing anyone while driving home, despite being blitzed and despite intentionally swerving at oncoming traffic. That's not laudable, it's despicable even if the drunk accidentally missed everyone.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/26/obama-iraq_n_1032507.html
Finally, if Bradley Manning was the source behind the wikileaks cache, rather than the torture and persecution he is receiving under Obama, he should get a fucking Nobel because it is HE who got us out of Iraq.

Re:Blame the b*tards in Congress...
Exactly, just look at Obama. He made all kinds of promises about "change", yet nothing changed. What'll be telling is if people re-elect him; if they do, it shows they're stupid and are happy with Obama's horrible performance, and if they don't, it shows they're stupid and they want religious nuts making our laws. It's not like they didn't have choices in the Primaries, but no, they voted for the worst-possible candidates (on both sides), just like they did back in '08.

Re:News for Nerds?
No because it was frankly pathetic and sad how much the MSM has been jerking the whole thing around. Instead of reporting the facts we either got "Mittens has it in the bag" almost from the first second and when the ratings went to crap it was "anybody but Mitt" where they would pump the living shit out of one of the competition and when they didn't catch we'd go instantly back to "Why waste your votes? mitt has it in the bag" again, sigh.
Is anyone else just sick of the whole damned thing yet? I've voted in every election since i became eligible and i'm just gonna have to listen to my oldest boy (who just became voting age and refuses to vote, saying its a sham and choosing the lesser of two evils is still evil) because frankly he is right, there is NO real choices here. You have Obama who has been worse than Bush on damned near every metric that mattered, then you have mittens that has so far...1.-made jokes about his dad closing factories, 2.-Made the "I'm unemployed too" crack while sitting on more money than many drug lords, 3.-Is a tax dodger,4.-Said that more foreclosures would be good, not for the people but for the banks, and 5.-Being bankrolled by Goldman Sachs which is one of the biggest leeches this country has EVER seen and is pretty much the poster child for how big corp capitalism is destroying everything in its path.
So I have to agree with my boy at this point that the current election is pretty much pointless. BOTH Mittens and Nobama will screw the living hell out of the working poor and the middle class, BOTH will kiss the ring and give more to the 1%ers, BOTH will be worse for the country than frankly picking someone out the phonebook and BOTH will be insider heaven, with tons of backroom deals that screw the American people.
So I have to say i completely agree with my youngest that you can vote for the lesser of two evils for a million years and you are still voting for evil. Can't even tell him that we should vote because of the local elections as both at the local and state level we have a handful career politicians in my area that just play musical chairs, just the same half a dozen families that have been running things for generations.
I think we are gonna have to accept the election system as it is is just broken. it gives waaaaaaay too much power to the insiders, the incumbents, and the MSM while making sure that if you are not in the handful of states that do their votes in the primary early in the season you are pretty much just a rubber stamp for whomever has already been chosen. It stinks and no matter who "wins" this, Mittens or Nobama you can bet your last soon to be QE'd down to worthless dollar that there will be one sure loser...the USA.

Re:Quite the opposite the opposite
Obama IS responsible for due process free execution of several American Citizens based on a secret legal memo (repeat of the GWB policies toward due process free detention).
Obama IS responsible for Yemen's continued imprisonment of a news reporter. His sin? Most likely:
As we now know, on December 17, 2009, President Obama ordered an air attack â" using Tomahawk cruise missiles and cluster bombs â" on the village of al Majala in Yemenâ(TM)s southern Abyan province; the strike ended the lives of 14 women and 21 children. At the time, the Yemeni government outright lied about the attack, falsely claiming that it was Yemenâ(TM)s air force which was responsible.
http://www.salon.com/2012/03/14/obamas_personal_role_in_a_journalists_imprisonment/singleton/
Seriously, you make light of Obama's failings with things that clearly aren't his fault, but that only serves to obfuscate the fact that he's taken everything that GWB did that was considered radical and dangerous, and made it the new normal. In a world of asshole murdering civil liberty destroying shits, Obama is president.
Here's a partial list, address some of that before you defend this guy:

Re:Google Wallet vs PayPal
That's a little bit out of context, don't you think?
No, I just think it doesn't fit the context that's traditionally been ascribed to them. It doesn't fit the role we built our government to perform, and given what it's been doing I think it's important to keep close tabs on that.
They didn't develop Keyhole as some kind of subsidy for industry. They did it so they could take pictures of Russian nuclear facilities from space etc.
My belief is that the Cold War was a primer to subsidize all manner of covert technology and nuclear buildup for other purposes. A bit like 9/11 making a great excuse to pull rights away from American citizens wholesale, or how claims of nuclear development on Iran's part generates a pretext to bully militarily-weak oil-producing countries (never mind that nuclear enrichment, according to insiders, is essentially an obsolete concern these days), or S. 1867 officially making the country a military dictatorship. It's not what you hear the media saying is the pretext for all this stuff, but it's an emergent pattern that certainly passes the Duck Test.
It turns out that it, like the internet and GPS, have civilian uses as well.
And how convenient it must be for a government to extract tax monies from the people by force - for, at the end of the day that's what underlies governments - decide what to spend it on, and then be able to profit hugely by releasing some of that to industries, steering the industry itself while corporations are used to create government-friendly structures that cannot directly be created by the federal government.
Would you rather that they spent your money and then just kept all that stuff still classified?
Whose money?
Right.

Re:Important to note
Sadly F&F was nothing under Bush, and Solyndra was just the tip of a VERY stinky iceberg, one of the Kennedy kids got millions in tax free handouts for a "green' company that had never made a single dime. I'd google it for you but I'm just about to head out the door "Solyndra tip of iceberg" in any search engine will find the info for you. Summary 19 out of the 20 companies that got huge handouts were significant donors to the elect Obama fund. I'm a democrat and hated Bush but Obama is trying his damnedest to be worse than Bush in EVERY single way, worse on human rights, worse on jack booted crap, worse on bribery, hell i can't think of a single thing the man did better and that's just fricking sad. if you want to see what changed read this. Frankly I'm voting green rather than waste my vote on such a lousy POTUS. don't worry he'll still win simply nobody is gonna vote for mittens.

Re:AT&T Merger is Still Planned
Oh, even Stalin had a health plan for the people (ours happens to be the "No Insurer Left Behind Act"), that didn't make him a nice guy. The real things Obama has accomplished however are much darker:
- Rendered the War Powers Act moot, so future presidents can decide on their own without any congressional interference when and where to go to war.
- Instituted a policy of due process free execution. This is death squad territory.
- Made the once radical policies of GWB, such as due process free detention, the NEW NORMAL.
- Excused torturers.
- Excused AT&T's illegal domestic wiretapping program.
- Attempted to undermine the treaty against cluster bombs even though we are not a signatory.
- Has applied the Espionage Act against whistleblowers of gov't malfeasance six times in three years. Before Obama, it had been applied three times in the entire history of the US.
- Drone bombing at a rate 14x that of GWB.
- Continues the racist drug war (for reference, see: The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness)
That's just off the top of my head
... oh yeah ... Tried to convince Iraq to let our forces stay beyond 12/2012. Funny thing about, I hear so many people give him credit -- they say things like, "he's president right? and the war ended right?" --- do people not understand that when a person puts up a fight for X, but fails to win X, it makes no sense to congratulate him for the end of X?" I guess not.Anyway, Obama is just awful. Unless you are a neo-con, and then he's your wet dream of a president.

Re:No shit!
TARP isn't entirely Obama's baby. However, it was created by Congress, starting during the Bush administration. Democrats don't like anyone to remind anyone of this next fact, but the fact is that Democrats were controlling Congress during Bush's last two years, and are wholly responsible for TARP. Obama came along later and joined in with his Democrat buddies in jerking off their corporate buddies in the finance industry.
In a nutshell, the Democrats were elected in big numbers in 2006 because the public was pissed off with Bush, his crappy policies, his wars, and his ineptitude. They wanted change for the better. The Democrats didn't deliver; they delivered more of the same. Believing naively that the problem was that they still had a Republican in the white house, the public then elected Obama, who promised "hope" and "change", thinking that with a majority of Dems in Congress and one in the WH (and an unknown black one at that, rather than a Washington insider like Hillary), that we'd finally get some real change for the better. What happened? Nothing changed, in fact things got worse.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Obviously, electing Republicans like Bush and his neocons isn't the answer; we already saw what a disaster that was. And obviously, blindly electing Democrats isn't the answer either, because they've proven themselves to be just as bad. I think we'll probably get another neocon Republican President next year; the peoples' memories are extremely short and they just can't think beyond two choices.

Re:Gasp! Obama... Wr... Wrong??
Misses a button on his coat? Are you serious? Obama's term looks exactly like a GWB third term would look like. You may not want to believe it, but Obama's policies have been horrid and his record on human rights, heinous.

Re:Cavernous Divide? Seriously?
Check my sig. Here, I'll link to it again: http://nothingchanged.org/
I haven't added in Obama's recent enshrinement in statute of indefinite due process free detention, which I consider "worse than Bush", but when I do, the scorecard will be:
Worse than Bush: 8
Same as Bush: 10
Better than Bush: 1
Worse than Bush, but not Obama's fault: 1
Better than Bush, but not Obama's accomplishment: 1
