Re:I would really like to try this out
[...]Transport Tycoon didn't start (and after using some player-made patch it had black spots and occasional blackouts)
TTD Patch works fine for me in XP, though I took a liking to Open TTD instead. OpenTTD is a complete replacement (i.e. written from the ground up), rather than patches for the EXE file. -
Transport Tycoon
It's good to see some people still play this classic! Of all the games I have ever played, Transport Tycoon has been the one that is most replayable! I would suggest having a look at OpenTTD, an open-source version of Transport Tycoon with many more useful enhancements than the orginal - http://www.openttd.com/

Open Transport Tycoon is your friend!
Go here. Its even been improved (well, i think so).

Re:My Top 5 Games
if you loved Transport Tycoon, check out openttd, at http://www.openttd.com/. The usual random spraffing of OSS patches, multiplayer, etc.

Re:Any RTS games with scripting interfaces?
Not really the four X's, but still good fun- though there's not scripting, its a pretty good economics sim! http://www.openttd.com/

OpenTTD
Transport tycoon is fun to this day, and with OpenTTD its only funner. The scope for track design is amazing and if you were ever into toy trains then this is the ultimate. There are always challenges you can set yourself, you could for instance only use ships. Or limit yourself entirely to passenger cargo.
The scope of that game is amazing. -
Re:Windows is slow?
Please, stop using Linux as the operating system, as it makes your comment a balant lie. No, it is not well supported by Linux, neither wifi and other things, it may be supported by one or two distributions.
Isn't it true that most users install a distribution rather than doing some kind of Linux From Scratch thing? Ergo, the vast majority of users have these things available to them out of the box without needing the user to do anything.
The Linux Kernel is infinitely configurable. This is how the same basic piece of software can run everything from a watch to a PDA to a PC to an enormous cluster of PCs. Linux as distributed in every distribution I've used in the last few years supports both WiFi and sound mixing out of the box.
As usual, you seem to be one of those people who once tried Slackware 10 years ago and still spout opinions based on that experience. Linux has changed immeasurably even over the last 2-3 years. Try a recent version of a good Linux distro (I recommend Ubuntu) and you'll see all that Linux of today has to offer. Yes, that includes WiFi (my laptop works out of the box) and sound mixing (my motherboard's on-board sound can play XMMS and OpenTTD simultaneously). Try it.

Re:MOO2 fan somewhere?
I wish there was an OpenMOO2 that approached the creamy goodness of OpenTTD. Or at least a version that could blow out to 1600x1200..
I wouldn't even have to abandonwarez the media assets! -
Re:ATI 9600 - is it good enough
For iMac resolutions it should be adequate, though I don't know offhand how far you can set WoW's terrain distance.
Still, for anything short of Doom3, it should probably be adequate. OpenTTD runs like shit thru a goose on my 667 PBG4! -
Re:Great Game. Some annoyances.
Transport Tycoon Deluxe has some "extra" patches and stuff available, and as far as I'm aware OpenTTD improves upon them, that help automate a lot of stuff.

Re:hey hey hey
OpenTTD seems to be a frighteningly good time waster, too.
