Pause and Tiredness : citations provided.
Citations needed
Citations provided:
Most place recommand taking break every 1h30 of driving. After 2h, you definitely need a 30min rest
One of the numerous example of recommendation of making breaks in Europe :
french government recommending to take breaks every 2 hours.
(France usually has massive campaign against driver tiredness, displayed on the LED screens above highways during holiday breaks, with punny slogans. "Une pause s'impose" is another popular one. And you can count TV and Newspaper to repeat the "2 hours" recommendation).
(I've seen similar LED screens campaign in Italy, but I'm not fluent enough to manage to find nice pictures in google image).(In other words, to go back to the initial thread subject: if you practice the recommended pauses schedule, you'll never run the battery of a Tesla Model 3 (60kWh), Renault Zoe 4.0 (45kWh) or Opel Ampera (60kWh).
Just as you won't empty the tank of an ICE either)And please don't start about driving 8 hours straight with only a single pee br{e}ak in the middle. That's dangerous and borderline illegal (actually is under some circumstance and in some jurisdictions).
Random example :
Swiss Law about professional drivers license for regular cars (the kind of driver license one needs to pass when earning money/salary for driving) (i.e.: the kind of license that Uber drivers are required to pass in most cities that actually pay close attention to the law - the few exception are cities who voluntarily accept to close their eyes on UberPop drivers).
It's illegal for driver to drive more than 4h30 straight without a 45min break, there are also limits on the total work day (around 7 hours), pauses of 15min or less don't count as pauses.8h straight with only a pee break is definitely considered illegal for professional drivers in regular cars (= some circumstances) in Switzerland (= some jurisdiction).
Similar restrictions for professional drivers exist in most European jurisdictions.Even if you're not covered by this kind of law, if you are implicated in an accident and it is revealed that you aren't rested enough, you might be considered at fault (the same way if you were intoxicated with an undetermined substance or if less than
.05% blood-alcool-level - i.e. situations where there is not a clearly defined legal limit, but you're definitely not able to keep attentive enough anymore).
In other words : if the police thinks you're unfit to drive (and there's extensive research on the effects of tiredness on driving, and statistics on its implication in accidents), you're at fault, even if the law doesn't state precise numbers (sleep, some drugs) or you're under the numbers (.049% BAL, when the limit is .05%).
In short: even when it's not explicitly stated in law, you're definitely in for some troubles. -
Re:Beats? Danger Danger!

Re:wait... what???
According to this the $350K is for a complete system and not a single aircraft.
A complete system (controller, spare parts, and three UAVs) costs $250,000 for the Raven and over $400,000 for Puma.
The price for a single aircraft is much closer to $100k.
Take a look at the capabilities of the Puma. The optics, communications, and autonomous navigation features are not cheap.I would guess the major cost is in an on-board instrument system for making scientific measurements.

Saudi poor?
The price of ONE if these cars can elevate 300 Saudi poor to owning a modest home that is comfortable and has clean water and sanitation.
You have no idea about Middle East. Saudi Arabia is a 19th century theocracy strongly influenced by Wahhabi style of Islam (they are super right wing wacko birds following Sharia.)
But Saudi Arabia is not a poor country, its one of the richest countries in the world. The stuff you imagine - clean water and sanitation for Saudi poor - does not exist. Because Saudi poor does not exist. There are unemployed Saudi youth...but they are not poor.
Do you know how the Arab Spring did not make a presence in Saudi? The kingdom increased the monthly allowance to citizens. Meaning the whole country is bribed and kept happy. (How can you blame the citizens? The Al Saud family makes money, but also shares the spoils. Most of the oil rich states in middle east are super welfare states - so an internal revolt by the poor will not happen.

Re:Controller still bluetooth ?
Sony controllers are some of the best
Hell, no! Maybe the build quality is good, but the Dualshock is quite uncomfortable. When I got a PS2, first thing I did was order a Phoenix Revolution, which lets you swap the buttons and sticks around. Of course, after you set it like an Xbox 360 pad, there's no reason to ever change them again. And if you have a PS3, looks like Gioteck has some pads in this same 360 style that most gamers favor now.

Re:Obvious
Reality has a well known liberal bias. Of course conservatives are going to distrust science.
Now remind me if it is liberals or conservatives that distrust science when it comes to the following beliefs.
Cell Phones cause cancer.
That all GMO crops are bad.
We can't replace coal power plants and aging nuclear power plaints with newer safer designs. -

Re:Fukushima Accidend NOT an error, It is a CRIME
The design flaws were known from the beginning, three GE engineers resigned in 1972 over their warnings and recommendations being ignored. Then as recently as two years ago the IAEA warned Japan that the reactors were not safe in case of an earth-quake.

Re:Explanation of go AI
Monte Carlo
Yes, it's just a variant of Monte Carlo, but don't knock it. Recent programs implementing the algorithm have improved their handicaps by up to 5 stones, which is huge. The top bots at the KGS Go server are now ranked up to 4 dan (like a good amateur player) in games against humans.
You may want to read this short article in the Guardian about these recent improvements in the MoGo go bot. In October 2009 (6 months after this article appeared) a version of MoGo finally beat a top-ranking (9 dan) professional in an even game on a 9x9 board.

Here is what happens when a high-speed train derails...

Only if you surf the web as root/administrator ...
Well - only if one is foolish enough to surf the web and check email and do your other daily computer chores, while being logged in as root/administrator to your computer
...rootkits, malware, trojan, etc. still require root/administrator rights to install themselves.
http://kareldjag.over-blog.com/article-1232530.html
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456992(loband).aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700846(loband).aspxThe above is old school on Unix (and applies to any OS) - only login as root/administrator if you need to do system maintenance.
For everything else use a Least Privilege User Account.
And - first install and run software in an isolated virtual machine with InstallWatch running and see what is being installed/executed. If the installer/software is doing anything suspicious, simply do not install it on your real machine. As simple as that

Re:How about someone actually read the law...?(Putting my basque beret on) 'Kay, I think the real reason for this law is the media drawing public attention on a few cases of "happy slapping" committed on civil servants, teachers and school pupils in urban areas. The idea would be to punish the people who deliberately film those scenes with the purpose of humiliating the victim even more when those images are cast on the Internet.
However, I don't have the same interpretation as you on the fact that "filming your local police officers beating people up remains legal". You can be damn sure that if a nearby cop catches you in the act, you better run faster than him. 'Cos you can be sure he won't let you produce your movie in court...
And I also see this as a more general trend in France, particularly from Sarkozy and his political side, to suppress any dissentive media, be they newspapers, magazines, TV networks, blogs or even music bands. Just ask Google for "Sarkozy censure", you'll get countless different reports. IMHO, Nicolas Sarkozy is clearly abusing his powers as Ministre de l'Intérieur (i.e. Minister of Domestic Affairs, in charge of the police) to favor his own campaign and suppress any dissent.A few links:
- A movie clip censored by MySpace under pressure from Sarkozy
- A blogger compelled to withdraw public documents from his blog under pressure from the police
- Publisher cancels a book about Sarkozy's wife under pressure from the Ministre de l'Intérieur
