Re:Vice versa
Even if that were true (all the citations I read say the treaties are bilateral), the respective governments signed the treaty. Are government officials in Europe illiterate? I thought we had it bad in the US...
Lars Erik Gustav Lindstrom was extradited to Norway in 1999, against an Federal Appeals court order of a stay while his case was being reviewed.

I bet this guy wishes the US-France extradition treaty was one-way:

This is a pretty crappy "one-way" Extradition treaty if you ask me... -
Re:What's wrong with the UK?
And then the Police arrested a couple of Oxford students for calling a police horse gay/. The journalists had a field day over that one - calling the decision "Blackadderesque". One could only imagine the script for that.

Just the same in the UK......or at least here at Oxford, according to this article.
The student newspaper "polled over 300 students across the university, discovering that six and a half percent had taken prescription and illegal drugs to keep them awake whilst writing essays."
Although the article points to stress as a factor, it fails to mention that for many students here, the entire degree depends on just a few weeks of exams at the end of the final year. Hardly surprising, then, that some of them are pushed over the edge.

It must be the season for this...
Someone at the world-acclaimed student bogsheet the Oxford Student observed that the world was going to end because their college network isn't switched. Thankfully a far more rational person pointed out that packet switching is the least of their worries, compared with wide open pidgeon holes and dustbins. Was this weekend marking International FUD day or something?

Re:OT - Hugo's Geneology
I don't know much about his history or career, but Hugo Nominations was the child of immigrant grapepickers Oscar Nominations and Emmy Nominations (madien name: Emmy Buzz). Perhaps another slashdotter can fill in the blanks?
Noe Schitt. You learn something new every day.

Re:Speaking of self-righteous- How do you know me!I live in a state (a U.S. state that is) where all smoking in public buildings is prohibited, so your example is lost on me. Also, you say "mostly" and I do agree it will happen and mostly in expected places, but "pranksters" and other malcontents will give your (dare I say) beloved device a bad name, right from the start.
I have said it many times now, but I'll say it again... Radio Jammers are illegal (in the U.S. at least) and for good reason. If you want peace and quiet put on a pair of head phones or go places where there are no people. In these "magical quiet zones" would you eliminate all talking, crying kids, and even the drone of typing? Heck, (also said before, differently), in areas where people are allowed to talk (just about everywhere but movie theaters) the most annoying thing about cell phone usage is not being able to hear both sides of the conversation. Otherwise people would always be complaining about how "that table next to me was talking and I don't like it, it offends me that they are able to vocalize with my earshot, make them stop, now!".
