R2-D2 mod.
Hey, i know the guy who did the r2-d2 case. Heres his original worklog.

Exactly.
I have an 20" Apple Cinema display, and a 15" CRT that i scrounged to the right of it. Main ones for browsing, gaming, etc (and tv, since my tv will only display on my primary monitor) and the second monitor i keep my IM windows, winamp, or if im watching videos or a movie while doing other stuff. Pic1, Pic2 (mine on the right, roomies on the left, he runs a 17" and a 15" CRT) Then i can just move my browser to the second monitor if the TV is maximized for whatever reason. I do however plan to replace the probably 10 year old CRT with an LCD soon, since the brightness sucks compared to my ACD.

Impractical?umm.. pretty but not very practical
When is a case mod practical, aside from this one.
I remember finding a few of those old Philco's on the curb come trash day and they were nasty beasts. We dragged one home look through it and the shielding wasn't very good, if one of these things, and several were not very stable, fell over you could have a fire in short order. These things undoubtably predated consumer product saftety testing and who knows what kind of radiation they leaked. It didn't become much of an issue until the late 60's
For a case mod, I would only consider one of thse with a 17" or larger LCD display, but it would probably look fairly dorky and the beatuy of LCD displays is they're small enough that you can place them where you need, rather than being fixed to the computer, like laptops.
Casemodding isn't my cuppa, though some do end up looking kinda cool.

I have one of these...
Recieved it from FrozenCPU last week, its extremly quiet, and probably cut the noise of my PC in half. Also, the chrome and silver/black connectors look very clean. You can get a 500w power supply for a lot less, but it wont look this nice and probably doesn't have the performance (nobody ever reviews cheap PSUs). Its been running an XP3200+, 2 vid cards, 3 SATA hard drives, 2 optical drives and 3 fans without any hickups. Another review here.

Re:keep my coffee warm
You could always build your very own caffeine machine.
-
Tsk, tsk... dissing coffeesmakers like that...
A phone, like a pair of shoes or a car, and unlike a PC or a coffeemaker, is a personal device, a fashion accessory that says something about its owner.
Whatever. Try telling that to Nick Pelis.
Yeah, I know /. covered this already but, I couldn't find the link. -
Caffeine Machine
I dunno if building a PC into a desk is all that original. I've seen a few in my time which were pretty inventive. This, on the other hand, seems quite an improvement, at least it's got Hot Java.

UT2003 & Linux.... Works for me
Now coupling a blazingly fast Linux port, they're throwing in UT 2003. What more can one ask for?
Maybe a coffee maker built into my PC to keep me awake for days while playing. -
Re:Next week on Slashdot...
OK, I'll milk this one for all it's worth, I posted it on the Cappuccino PC thread too, but some people just don't realise that PC/coffee machine combos are out there.

Re:swell
A PC/coffee maker? You'd be talking about one of these then.

Re:Coffee
You mean like this? (which was featured on
/. recently) -
Re:Hmmmm
This article has been on slashdot barely 5 minutes and the source is already slashdotted... sheesh. Either that or someone cut the cat-5 right before pimprig's server exploded.
Anyway, hereis a direct link to the image. You can find a more reliable link (tho the picture is smaller) here , just scroll down the page. -
