Re:Good luck with that
But at least I based it off something you actually said/did, rather than invent something.
Simple question - did he or did he not write the following?
I don't believe that the universe was created
...He did write it. The rest of that sentence doesn't really alter that statement, but discusses a new topic. So, I didn't actually "invent something," did I?
Do you work for Fox News?
It's a pity you didn't rise to the level of Fox News, at least they generally manage to get simple matters like identifying quotes right.
Don't worry though, this article discusses a resource to help you become better informed as noted in this survey.

Re:Maybe this corn can be used for food again?
Al Gore knew it was a mistake when it was first put into place. He put it in to get more votes from corn farmers.
Its not "switching your position because you learned it was wrong". Its corruption from the get go thanks to Al Gore. How much did this raise food prices and cause people to go hungry? How many engines for cars of poor people were ruined by the extra water in the fuel?
No one will care because a mistake from the DNC is to be forgotten and anyone who points it out is making up a "fake controversy".

Re:A clear example of how lobbying hurts everyone
Its not "politicians". Its Al Gore, hero of the green movement that has literally made hundreds of millions convincing other to go "green" while he lives in his big house and flys on private jets everywhere.

Re:How about black-to-white racism?
Silly logical thinker, haven't you heard, a black person can not, by definition, be racist.

Re:ATTN: Jared Polis
Interesting. I was with you up until you got to "just compare the European and Asian railroads to American ones" because you don't account for any of the drastically different environments or outcomes. Without some reference, it's a completely unreasonable comparison.
The US freight rail system is widely held as the best in the world and it seems like that should make it reasonable for us to ramp up passenger rail. So I looked into it. I'm still enamored with the idea of reliable and reasonable public transport, but my hopes have been somewhat dampened by the realities after I started reading on the subject.
Wanna read a little? Here are a couple articles that each cover good and bad.
- What America can learn from Europe's high speed rail
- High speed rail great fro Europe but less so for the US
In the end, I actually find myself rooting against rail but not because I don't believe it could work. I root against it because the history I see of US pork barrel politics.

Re:Women
One of the biggest issues with Silicon Valley is that it is all tech nerds. If you work in a big city you can run into the opposite sex from time to time.
Especially in NYC, where single females outnumber single males by around 200k:

Re:Of course.
Israeli security uses racism which sounds like a better system than what we're using.
Israel doesn't use racism. It uses intelligence, something the TSA completely lacks.
Ben Gurion Airport security personnel have long faced accusations of racial profiling. Critics argue that many more Arab people are questioned than other ethnic groups. Ron denies the profiling charge. “Speaking from a security point of view, it would be professionally stupid to divert attention from non-Arab people,” he says. “For example, the worst attack on Ben Gurion was carried out by Japanese in 1972. If we focus on ethnic groups, we will miss what the enemy already understands: using a non-Arab person to carry out an attack might succeed.”
Grandma wants to stick a bomb on a 4 year-old? She better hope she doesn't start getting nervous the moment they turn onto the road heading to the parking lot. By the time they get to the scanners, the Israelis have already determined whether grandma needs the special glove treatment. They don't need to pat down the kid.
-
Re:Of course.
Citation please? According to Wikipedia, the only terrorist group to employ this tactic is Hamas, even though Israeli security does screen women -- which rather invalidates the theory.
Israeli security uses racism which sounds like a better system than what we're using.
Look like a terrorist? Get a pat down. Look like a four yr old blonde blue eyed girl hugging grandma? No pat down
Mark me troll and flamebait all you want, but every time the TSA pat downs a little blonde girl the terrorist win again. They're using our morality against racism against us. -

Amusing to the Max
Right and for better or for worse, those are non-voting shares so the US Government has about as much say in what goes on at GM as I do as a random member of the public.
HA HA HA HA HO HE HA HO HE HA HO HA HA HA HA!!!!
As much say? I don't remember having the power to fire the CEO
And I don't think that having the head of GM assigned to lead the government as an economic advisor on creating jobs(!) is exactly the kind of hands-off model you are proposing.
Not to mention that as part of getting that money, GM had to move all creditors to the back of the line behind unions who lost not a cent of money.

Re:Why John Kerry lost
But they elected him to the Senate, right?
As for relying on science to make decisions, the evidence suggests politics trumps science in Gore's mind. Al Gore Mea Culpa: Support for Corn-Based Ethanol Was a Mistake At least he admits a mistake. But look at the motivation and apply the same principle to Gore's other favorite causes with the same degree of analysis. Not that the problem is limited to Gore; politicians are always lining up behind various causes to trade government funding for votes.

http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/05/01/who-was-responsible-for-the-mission-accomplished-banner/
You will note that Rumsfeld has admitted the banner was made by White House staff, and reflected wording from Bush's speech. Bush's production manager flew out to the ship five days earlier, checking every detail for his boss's triumphant deck-swagger in a flight suit. Being the commander in chief, if Bush told the Navy "Take the rap for me on this," they had no choice but to say, "Yeah, we asked for the banner."
And you openly display your pride in the man. Unbelievable.

Re:I've got the cure
I'd love to see more or less comprehensive statistics on the part in bold.
Let's start with this article which references several different studies over the years which have shown that abstinence-only programs fail at their message when compared to a comprehensive sex education program.
The reports do not say that these were in fundamentally religious communities, but the results would probably be similar in those communities.
However, there is this report (pdf) which discusses abstinence-only vs. a comprehensive sex education program.
Finally, there is this report (pdf) from the Journal of Adolescent Health which reviews current (2005) U.S. policy of abstinence and abstinence-only programs.
Here is the link (pdf) to the report mentioned from the Guttmacher Institute. They also produced this report (pdf) which does talk about a somewhat successful abstinence-only program for young African-Americans, but notes this was not the normal abstinence-only type program.
Hope this helps. -
Re:Gee, let's outsource governing to private firms
No, that's bullshit. They polled MA voters, and they still want socialized medicine. Coakley is a shill, she ran a craptastic campaign, and people are pissed that Dems haven't done enough.

Re:What?
Look, I'm just as cynical as the next guy (read my comment history if you want to verify it), but as a resident of Alaska for 20 years, Palin -- while certainly not perfect -- has in many ways been a breath of fresh air. Under her administration as governor, Alaska has (finally!!!) started cleaning house. The investigations into government corruption in AK have toppled both Dems and Republicans. I would really like to have seen what would have happened had she made it to V.P.
Are you fucking kidding me? Were you just not paying attention during the campaign??
In any case, she couldn't possibly have been worse than the "change" and "hope" that we ended up putting in the White House
:(Well, first of all, she was running for VP, not President, so I gather you're comparing Mr. "bomb bomb bomb Iran" - the guy who didn't know the difference between shiites and sunnis - to the current president, not Sarah Palin. Second, thank goodness neither of them will ever be entrusted with that kind of power in this country. I'm sure that Barbie Spice, like McCain, is well meaning and well intentioned, but neither of them have demonstrated they understand jack shit about relating to people outside a certain (thankfully dwindling) segment of "middle America." That's fine for getting elected governor of Alaska but what a nightmare that would be for dealing with the rest of the world. Obama may be a charming impostor but he at least can speak eloquently and knowledgeably about many of the bigger issues we face in the world today. He may not be a perfect American leader, but for fuck's sake, Palin and McCain can't even hold a candle to him. To McCain's credit, he's at least intelligent enough to understand that.
