Re:Heathens
Besides, how can you can believe in evolution when it violates basic laws of the universe? There are so many arguments against evolution that it's ridiculous. Even those that ignore the written record of humanity cannot ignore the scientific facts making it impossible.
I very highly suspect this as a troll, but I'll give it a go :)
Evolutionists claim that universe the earth is billions of years old, but how is that possible when the rotation of the earth slows by 30 seconds every century? If the earth were billions of years old the speed at which it would have been rotating four years ago would have been so fast that it could not have held together.
Er, 30 seconds every century indeed! More like 2.2 seconds every 100,000 years. Here are some references.
There's also the second law of thermodynamics to look at. It states that the universe is constantly heading toward disorder. Evolution violates that law, so which one is right?
Well the second law of thermodynamics only makes sense when you understand what it's actually saying :P It says that the universe as a whole is moving towards disorder. This doesn't prevent portions of the universe from achieving states of increased order. And to think otherwise is completely absurd - if everything could only move in the direction of disorder, how could anything really get accomplished? This is a rediculous way to try and twist the 2nd law of thermodynamics, it reeks of manipulation.
Another problem with evolution is that certain nucleic acids cannot form without the help of certain proteins, but those proteins cannot form without certain nucleic acids. That makes it impossible to occur naturally.
Admittedly, I know nothing about nucleic acids and proteins, so I cannot comment on this.
Oh well, so I got 2 out of 3. Perhaps somebody with a biology tilt can comment in on the proteins and acids. :P

Holy crap!
I didn't even realize Prodigy was still around!
The Source is still dead, right? -
Re:Why Only US? And why only ISPs?Actually, it does go a bit deeper . .
.Prodigy is not just Prodigy--it's Prodigy+SBC. In a recent set of mergers, SBC acquired PacBell, Nevada Bell, SNET, & Ameritech. In a side deal, completed 01-Jun-2000, SBC created a new limited partnership (43% SBC, 57% Prodigy) in which Prodigy takes over all of the ISP operations, while SBC concentrates on the core telecommunications business.
At the very least, I expect BT is after some cross-licensing of patents w/ SBC, especially since SBC is one of the largest US investors in European telecommunications.
Which makes me suspect that this case will not lead to a major reworking of IP law . .
.

Re:Patent infringementAh, so Prodigy's teamed up with SW Bell...
When I read the story, I was wondering how Prodigy could have ever become the country's largest consumer DSL provider. Now it's clear -- they're really talking about the parent company, Southwestern Bell, being the largest DSL provider.
Of course, that SW Bell could become the largest US DSL provider is a huge irony, as they were the slowest of the "baby Bells" to roll out DSL to their customers -- they got to that position by buying up other Bells that were doing it right (Pacific Bell, Ameritech).
Of course, there aren't any more "baby Bells" now. Is there anything left besides SBC and Verizon?

Re:Why this is good newsMore on the above...
From SBC's FAQ's page
Q. Why is my telephone company offering Prodigy Internet?
A. Ameritech, Nevada Bell Telephone, Pacific Bell Telephone, SNET, Southwestern Bell Telephone, and Prodigy Internet are affiliates of SBC Corporation Inc. SBC is proud to offer Prodigy Internet as the exclusive Internet provider for SBC's affiliates.
Seems to me that BT may be picking someone bigger than they thought... -
Civil Rights
I am 25 years old, however I can still remember when I was a teenager, and how I felt about age discrimination against teenagers: unfair.
It may be easy to forget many of you probably felt the same way, but when you become older you probably do forget, and begin looking at things in your own interest. You come up with explanations about why the current situation should be perpetuated, which you would never believe if you were the subject of that discrimination.
I am not going to say, "Oh, I don't care if teens can't buy a computer game or CD or go to a movie, because I'm 25 now. It doesn't affect me." I still think it's unfair and I'm still pissed off about it.
What to do about it, then?
What is the legal basis of majority vs minority status, and how does that relate to civil rights?
Interesting... looks like some other people care about these issues too. Google search: "teen rights"

I got one - here's the skinny. For starters, Merinta is the manufacturer of the neato toy you have. And Prodigy provides you with your free 56K ISP.
The Machine runs Linux! and the web browser is by Espial that fakes being Netscape 4.x very well (frames, javascript and Layers wow). Java support is included, and many ports on the machine are accessible. I can use a java applet to telnet to another machine, but I can't telnet back in. And the wiredX (or is weirdX) Java applet that is an X client didn't work.
Those USB ports are currently only good for plugging in keyboards and Mice (or so I'm told). They say in the future they'll support printers but no plans for ethernet card support.
Supposedly there's no hard drive. But I know there's a way to browse the filesystem. I think file:/// works, if not Click on all the dropdowns for in the Help menu - one of these will put you in the filesystem.
It comes with Real (not G2) the old 16K version - that only plays sound! They should be upgrading to a newer version soon - hopefully. It might be Merinta's fault that virginconnect members don't get the Real G2 player. If you check out their "IBrow" (that's what Merinta calls it) add-on software you'll see Real G2 listed. My guess is Merinta charges extra to install that!
Updates to the virgin webplayer happen via Castanet remote software - I'm not familiar with this; and have not had any upgrades happen (that I've noticed) since I logged started.
Did I forget anything? I did a whole mess of research on these things. The machine would be so much less of a toy if I could hook up a high speed connection to it.
Anyone had any success getting a high speed connection connected to the webplayer?
Another thing I'd like to figure out is if there is a cell phone (or some mobile networking hardware) that I can use that I can plug into the phone line input. The machine - when booting up dials prodigy - If I can use a mobile phone line (rather then my land line) I could hook up the machine to run in my car with a DC to AC converter and a cell phone that allows standard phone lines to be connected through.

Re:You mean "queue"?
You say queue, I'll say line.
Check out this handy American-British glossary:
http://pages.prodigy.com/NY/NYC/britspk/ukus4.html (Queue is the first entry on the URL I have provided. I wouldn't have known what many of the British terms listed were.) -
Re:If you label a post HUMOR at least make it funnI think you must be under the impression that Americans speak English. You are sadly mistaken. Thanks in part to Mr. Webster, we speak American. So, just to name a few differences:
- humor instead of humour.
- color instead of colour.
- favor instead of favour.
- behavior instead of behaviour.
- honor instead of honour.
- center instead of centre.
- flavor instead of flavour.
- neighbor instead of neighbour.

Re:Who the heck is Brian Boitano?
He's a professional male ice skater. He was really big in 1988, but I haven't heard much from him since. I think he's in Ice Capade's or something like that now. There was another Brian in the same Olympics as Boitano, one was from the US and the other was from Canada. The media made a really big deal of it. Thought you should know.
