Apple ahead of the curve
and getting rid of the keyboard entirely.
I had remotes come with PCs before (Medion). They usually suck because it doesn't work with linux and it's usually yet another startup progam in Windows. Also, since this doesn't come bundled with all PCs, it's guaranteed to fail at attracting game developers.
That's why PS3 own effort will be a failure. Unless it comes standard, few game developers are goingto bother programming for it to get the ball rolling.
Why even bother?

Re:Sony needs to...
I got mine for $300 (although you can do $250 now) through the playstation credit card deal. They might still have this deal going on: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/11/24/get-a-playstation-credit-card-get-150-off-ps3-purchase/

Re:Noone likes DRMThank you for summing all of that up!
I personally went HD back in 2003. Because I went in too soon I'm not HDCP compliant. (You can spare me the 'bleeding edge' comments) I am fully aware that I can get *yet another box* to allow me to play BD content via DVI at full resolution, but why the hell should I? It's only the clueless public that blindly accepts forced tech that has put us in this situation.

Re:Not all next gen consoles...
As of the most recent PS3 firmware, you can play any background music you'd like off the console hard drive regardless of what game you're playing.
Not according to ps3fanboy.com:
You also will not be able to use music from your hard drive, unless the game is specifically programed to take advantage of the feature. Unfortunately, no games will be able to take advantage of in-game custom soundtracks when the firmware update goes live. (However, future games and game patches can enable this feature. It depends on whether or not the developer chooses to include it in their game.)
Like I said, it's up to the dev to enable as far as I can tell (everything I've read on a number of sites says it's enabled per-game). I haven't installed 2.41 yet so I can't comment from personal experience.
On the Wii, there are games that allow custom MP3 soundtracks played off the SD card.
I didn't know that - I've not seen such a feature on any games I have. Regardless, wouldn't help me as my music isn't on an SD card it's on my media server.I'm guessing you have a 360, but not a Wii or PS3?
You'd be guessing wrong. But I'm guessing you're a rabid anti-MS fanbot? -
Re:D&D
Not just that, but the site came down moments after the MGS4 bundle sold out (sold out in seven minutes).

Granted, with a name like PS3Fanboy you'll have to take this with a huge grain of salt, but the timing matches up nonetheless. -
Re:for those 1337 3D games
^_^ The funny part is that they are planning on releasing Crysis 1.5 on the PS3.
Not only will it be coming to the console, it will contain 50% more stuff.

No WiFi
I'm pretty sure the new 40 gig PS3 does not include WiFi.

Wrong. It's not. See here:

And even their own goddamn site:
"2K ANNOUNCES BIOSHOCK AS AN EXCLUSIVE

Welcome to the BioShock site. Check out the new screenshots in addition to the environment of Rapture in the Enter Rapture portion of the site. Stay tuned for updates including weapons and plasmids, as well as all the latest information on BioShock.

The only info I could find that it was coming to PS3 was some unofficial quotes from Official Playstation Mag, which although wasn't officially withdrawn by OPM, was, in no uncertain terms, denied by 2k Games. -

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/09/ps3-price-drop -causes-a-2800-jump-in-sales-at-amazon-com/
Ok here's another stat for you, it's from a site called PS3Fanboy, but includes the image from Amazon showing the 2800% increase for PS3 sales on Amazon. What's your next excuse, it was photoshopped? AFAIK, PS3Fanboy is affiliated with sites like Engadget and Joystiq so I don't think they'd stoop to that level, but hey, believe whatever it takes to let you sleep at night.
BTW, 2800 may sound like a lot, but if you check current "Movers and Shakers" it can fluctuate all over the place. 2800% of 1 isn't THAT great.
So this shows, that for THIS supplier, sales went up. So even assuming your right, and that Amazon is an abnormality, the fact their sales went up still indicates SALES...WENT...UP! Like I said though, whatever it takes for you to get through the night. -
Re:Doesn't mean much
Because if there were, they'd be announcing those rather than "We've got 34 games coming up."
Umm, they did. They didn't just release a press release consisting of one sentence - "We've got 34 games coming up." They had info sessions for each of them. Want coverage? Go here. At least 30 links for you to dive into for about 25 games/environments (Home isn't really a game and it has 5 links). Plus streaming video. -
Re:Most scathing comments about Vista yet. . . something like 68% . .
. More than that I'm afraid - http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/04/03/ps3-sales-go-d own-the-drain-slight-clog/ P.S. Not a Playstation owner, but this is the most neutral/realistic analysis I found. -
Using your bad math, Sony still losesAbout 300k PS2s and 244k PS3s - just wow. That's almost 550k consoles Sony sold in January alone. Man, last place never looked so good!
Nintendo
Wii - 436K
DS - 239K
GBA - 179K
GC - 34K
total: 888K consoles.
Oops, I forgot ridiculous rounding... OMGz! Nintendo sold about 1 Million consoles!
Sony
PS3 - 244K
PS2 - 299K
PSP - 211K
total: 754K consoles. Did I even need to mention the GameCube?
And, use some common sense and these numbers look insane:
Sony is losing money for every PS3 sold based on manufacturing costs alone, never mind all those units sitting on store shelves. Sony won't even see respite from the bleeding until the 65nm process-shink slated for late this year.
Nintendo makes a profit on every console they sell. -
Re:Strategic feature removal
IIRC the only multi disc PS2 titles were on two single layer DVD5 discs because early PS2 units had problems reading information on the 2nd layer of DVD9s. I can't think of any multi disc Xbox 1 games... and actually there were only 3 Xbox 1 games that required the 2nd layer after you got rid of game demos/videos and other unnecessary crap. Jade Empire, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and Rally Sport Challange 2 all spilled over onto the 2nd layer. Jade empire and RSC2 only spilled over by less then a gig, and MGS2 Substance on the PS2 was 2 discs with the 2nd disc includeing specail feature and behind the seens stuff, for the Xbox Version they squeezed it all onto one disc but it could have easily been two single layer discs without any kind of disc swapping or removing from the gameplay.
There were only a small handful of GC games that used more then one disc, though I think it's important to note that the GC discs were ONLY single layer and held about 1.4GB of data... essentially 2 CDs. Meaning that the LARGEST of the GC games were about the same size as the largest PS1 and Saturn games.
Lets not forget that with new codecs for audio and video those elements are taking up a fraction of the space. Also there is new texture compression that apprently reduces texture sizes up to 70% without quality loss. It would be interesting to see how the disc size requirments would change for a game like Oblivion had that tech been availble when it was first released. Apparently it's being used on some upcoming XBLA games that are using the U3 engine for fully featured games under 50MB.
