Re:Have you
The quality of service has declined because the company has decided that they no longer offer service, unless you are looking for new cellphone service. I'd say that about 15% of shack employees today could tell you what a resistor does. About a quarter of those could match one up for you. About a quarter of those could help you repair a device or offer expert advice. While this is not many, you still have a one in twenty to fifty shot with the shack at finding a really good tech (you know who you are). I'd say this is at least ten times your chances at most other major retail electronics stores. FYI: http://www.radioshacksucks.com/

Yeah, Ft. Worthless tends to do crap like that.
For more amusement and if you need to get your blood pressure raised you can see what they are up at at http://www.radioshacksucks.com/ -
Fighting the good fight...
I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't list Radio Shack Sucks. RSS was instrumental in organizing a class action against RadioShack, and in response RadioShack tried to lawyer them to death.

Re:Always right....?
I think this is the primary reason that disgruntled customers and employees have deployed a website demonstrating their disgust for Best Buy: http://www.bestbuysux.org/
On a related note, RadioShack, as equally pushy on their less supportive service plans, also has an unhappy crowd: http://www.radioshacksucks.com/ -
Re:True
Back when I was still with the Shack, it was perfectly common for managers to shift hours around to keep someone from working overtime.
Of course not every manager did it.
I was blessed to work for some very honest Managers, who looked after there employee's.
But they where well aware of all the illegal stuff going on in other stores, and higher up in company.

I worked for RadioShack...
Well, if those were really nooses, the turnover would be even higher than it already is! I could've used one of those. Want to talk about the most hellish job in the world? Think about this.. a typical
/.'er having to deal with the general public in a gizmo / electonics store.shudders... traumatic is the only way to describe it
You know it can't be a good when there's an employee-based site with over 2500 registered users of the forum.

Re:Messin' wit the Shack
My understanding from surfing RadioShack Sucks is that their salesdroids would actually be penalized financially, or even fired altogether, for failing to obtain some arbitrary percentage of customer names and addresses. Seems like the quota was something on the order of 80-90% "compliance."
Between local stores like Active Electronics, the utterly-amazing variety of electronic parts on eBay and topnotch mail-order houses like Digi-Key, Jameco, and Mouser, it's pretty darned rare for me to set foot in a RatShit store these days. Their 1/4-watt resistor assortments are still a killer deal, though. -
Re:Radio Shack has become a crappy Best Buy
The only web operation I know of worth reading is radioshack sucks dot com. Much better than the one you mentioned.

What a weekend!
I decided pretty much at the last minute that I should go on FD this year. So, I packed the car then headed out to my mom's house on the other side of town where she has plenty of land to put up big wire antennas. I ran class 1B-Battery this year, and was 100% solar powered for the duration.
Setup was not much of a problem. I did blow a fuse in the PV combiner box (one of the wires to one of the solar panels came loose and shorted everything). Then the Rippoff Shack cable I bought was screwed up - the idiots did not strip the center conductor of the coax when they made it. Note to RS: insulators make poor conductors. Note to self: Never by Radio Shack parts ever again as you can buy floor sweepings of much higher quality for much less money at the electronic junk stores.
My K2 worked flawlessly. I got a few much needed QRP DX out of the way too, including KL7 and KH6 on 10, 15, and 20, voice and CW. Got a lot of new states too. Oh, and I broke a pileup with a SP8 on my first call while running 5 watts out on SSB. There were a bunch of QRO stations calling him too. I was impressed with myself.
Not sure of my final count, but I don't care. I had fun and proved to myself that everything works. Well, kinda works. I fell asleep 12 hours into FD. I woke up a few hours later and got back on - only the MFJ tuner I was using decided to not give me any reading on the meters any more. Not sure if a bug has made a home in there or what as I have not been able to pull the cover off yet to look.
