Great news about the music going DRM-free, but what about the rest of the iTunes store? It seems from this announcement that DRM will still be applicable on audiobooks, films, and TV shows, which is lousy.

Still, it's a step in the right direction, and I applaud the people over at Amazon (and everyone else selling music without DRM) for doing it first. Without that step, I'm willing to bet that Apple would have stayed with DRM on their music catalog. It looks like part of Defective By Design's Anti-DRM wishlist came true.

That said, Apple is also now charging if you want to get rid of your DRM (which means upgrading to 256 kbps tracks). From Apple.com:

You don't have to buy the song or album again. Just pay the 30 cents per song upgrade price. (Music video upgrades are 60 cents and entire albums can be upgraded for 30 percent of the album price.)

Yes, just $0.30 per song to get rid of the crap that we forced on you in the first place. Awful.

In other news, I was getting my updates from MacRumorsLive.com, when their feed was cracked by 4Chan. The site crashed half-way through the keynote. Here are some screen caps for anyone interested:

this hack really does show the power of IE...ie6 was released 2+ years ago. Most of these css3 features weren't even finalised as w3c guidelines when ie6 was released.

I call BS on that. Even features which IE did implement, it couldn't get right. For example, IE's implementation of getElementById is extremely flawed. It also doesn't support lots of things, like the CSS Width property, properly. (IE treats width as min-width, and doesn't provide real width support.)

This isn't a testament to IE's scalability, hackability, or another ability you might come up with. It's just another reason why it's a piss-poor browser. We need additional code to make IE properly understand standards; that's atrocious.

Also, if you want to see how IE stacks up against a browser like Firefox, I have made a quick comparison between the two. Its a little old now, and it was using Firebird 0.7 (not Firefox), but it's still a valid comparison. IE 6 chokes horribly on CSS, plain & simple.

Clearly you've never tried any advanced CSS in it. Check out advanced CSS tests in IE vs Firebird. That link shows you how Firebird renders CSS pages vs IE 5.5 and 6.0. It's no contest.

On top of that, check the link I provided in my original post, IE has severe JavaScript problems (a very bad implementation of getElementById). The engine IS buggy, plain & simple; it renders what's out there because people code for it, not because it's the best.

I too have a 17" PowerBook, and I also have a GBA SP. I adore the PowerBook, and yes, it definitely can play games that a Game Boy can't. But, take a look at them side by side.

Now tell me, which one do you think is better for quick gaming on the go? I can fit a GBA in my pocket. I had a hard time even finding a good laptop bag for my PowerBook. Besides, if I break or lose my GBA, I'm out $100 at the most. Not true with the Powerbook. There are tons of reasons why a GBA is better for gaming than a PowerBook, and vice-versa. I use both.
