Re:Wrong story
And please understand I'm not bashing the idea of R/C helicopter drones for police use, I believe anything to get rid of police helicopters is a great idea because helicopters are horribly expensive. An inexpensive police helicopter costs 700k+ (pdf) and can easily reach millions and costs about $2,500 an hour to operate. So you can see how a drone could pay for itself in no time.

Re:Are you guys joking?
The Moller Skycar is no where near to being finished and would be almost impossible to fly safely. You're better off grabbing a Robinson R22 for around 200K. Still in the "I can afford a Bentley" category but actually usable.

Personal Helicopter - Robinson R22
Average cruise speed 110 mph, using 9.5 gal per hour of fuel. Outfitted for about $190,000. 2-seater. Higher than average accident rate - try the R44 for a more stable ride.

Maybe you should look into some facts
Um
Perhaps you ought to look into fuel consumption for a R44 before you go spouting off.
If you were to look at the R44 Spec Sheet you'll see that the standard fuel capacity is 30.6 US gal. with a max range of 400 miles.
A little simple math shows us that 400/30.6 is equal to what kids? That's right, 13.07 mpg. Now, let's take a look at the gas economy on your SUV..... hmm... Comparible, is it? -
Helicopter vs Porche
Speaking of Helicopters and Porsches, you can get a decent 2 seater helicopter for less money than a decent Porsche.
Compare for yourself, $165 grand for a Robinson R22 Beta II helicopter versus $180 grand for a 2002 Porsche 911 GT2.
In terms of fun per dollar, a helicopter beats a Porsche any day!

Re:Wow... big heli for $700+
Aren't the real deals hard to fly?
I cannot speak for the RC ones, but nothing was as infuriating as just trying to hover a R22. While building time to get my instrument ticket, I had the chance to pick up some helicopter time. Seemed like an easy thing to do, right? After all, I knew the airspace - all I had to do was learn to use some new controls. Many weekends later, I came home to celebrate... I hovered! Nothing ever made me swear like trying to get something to just stay in one spot.
I cannot imaging trying to control an RC version from a third person perspective....
