Re:Hmm...
Other alternatives have popped up in recent years...in particular, Fox News Channel doesn't have the far-left tilt that infects most other media outlets.
Yeah, I'd hate my "conservative news" to have a shred of honesty and accuracy
Just go to FAUX NEWS and enjoy the lies. They delude, I deride. http://www.fair.org...
You trust that FAIR gets any of its stories right? They're nothing more than a mouthpiece for lefties...apologists for Dan Rather and his ilk. They tried to skewer Rush Limbaugh a few years back, but failed miserably due to their (typically) poor grasp of the facts. If you really want to get some idea of what the media don't want you to know, I'd suggest the Media Research Center or Accuracy In Media. I suspect that the truth may be a bit too much for you, though.
As for Fox News, I guess the fact that they don't accept as gospel every word from the Democrats and their fellow travelers must make them "members of the vast right-wing conspiracy." I would wear that label myself as a badge of honor, but Fox doesn't want to be known as leaning either way. Those of us on the right might gravitate toward them because the left-wing bias isn't there, but if they were the conservative news outlet that you say they are, what are the odds that they would've hired left-wing apologists such as Geraldo Rivera (as a war correspondent, no less)?

Re:The Enron fallout might really hurt Microsoft
What implications between the Bush administration and Enron?
Some Enron execs called cabinet members and INFORMED then that Enron was about to tank. Was there a bailout? No, nobody did anything, which is exactly what should have happened.
Clinton is the one who took donations and then used his presidential power to help Enron construct a power plant.
It looks like Enron has done nothing illegal. Immoral, cheap and underhanded certainly, but not illegal. Besides, what kind of MORON puts 70-100% of their retirement plan in ONE STOCK. Those kind of morons don't have any right to complain when that stock tanks. I feel no sympathy for that kind of stupidity. Diversity is the name of the game when it comes to life savings.
Try this this if you want the other side of the story from what you've been reading and hearing in the mainstream media. (Yes, it's ultra-right-wing, but almost everything else is ultra-left-wing.) Balance is good.

Freedom was attacked and Freedom will be Defended
Do we sacrifice our freedoms for security, or do we build on our freedoms? These are not easy answers. That's why the level of commitment behind them is so important. Our freedom is who we are and what our nation is founded on. Our freedom is the fabric of our success as a country. Our freedom is an essential element within each and every one of our spirits - the American spirit - and it is what we must hold onto during this time of what feels like unbearable shock.
Rush Limbaugh, Sep 13, 2001.For this country to be put back together and resume its lofty place, for this country to become even stronger than what it was, is going to require the people of this country doing what they've always done in the past during times like this. We must band together and defend our freedom, which is what separates us from our enemies. Our freedom was attacked and our freedom will be defended. On that, my friends, I am utterly confident - you can stake your life on it.

Re:Do we want this?
And there's nothing wrong with that mentality either. Computers are tools. My machine takes like a minute to boot the OS... how many other tools or appliances take that long to boot? What if your TV took 60 seconds before it could perform its task?
You must never have heard of vacuum tubes. :-) OK, so the average tube TV took maybe 30 seconds or so before it got up to speed, but still...(I speak from experience...when I was a kid (and no, I'm not that old...we're talking mid-70s to early 80s here), we had a 13" B&W TV, tube-based and probably of early-70s manufacture, in the kitchen. It took half a minute or so for it to get going.)
Even today, the radio on which I listen to Rush at home is a fifty-year-old RCA that I rebuilt a few years ago. It takes some time to warm up as well.

What Have You Been Smoking? China BAD America GOOD
Why should America apologize for China's outrageous behavior? I think Rush Limbaugh's Apology to China should suffice.
If anyone should apologize it should be the Chinese. This is the game they play. They are still pissed about the US accidentally bombing their embassy in Belgrade. Besides, they are testing the resolve of the new administration. They'll release the crew when they feel they have enough information from the plane. Hopefully the crew had time to destroy anything sensitive before the PLA captured them.

Re:Reverse discrimination
Im a young male puertorican in college and i agree with you 100% percent. Its unfortunate that the argument we share would have us branded as Uncle Toms by our own people.
Nahh, we call you "Tio Taco"...One of my life goals is to find like-minded people and help spread this message.
A few links to help you (visit in order so as not to confuse your tender young mind): Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, Storm Front, and Odin's Lounge.
Good luck in your quest to find "like-minded" individuals. They probably will kick you out of the organization as soon as you tell you are Puerto Rican...

I see no FM here.
How about the Koalition of Konservative Kaucasians handbook? The one you ditto-heads seem so fond of?Another troll decimated and flushed down the crapper. Ba-WHOOSH!
I don't think so. Anyway, why not tell us who you are so you can take full credit for your "insight"...

Re:And the 90% asians at my school still "minority
Face it, without hate and racism, what would Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Louis Farrakhan do for a living? They'd be out of a job, so naturally they don't want racism to end. They need "hate", for their continued existance. And it it's not there anymore, they'll create it themselves.
So affirmative action is nothing but a bunch of minorities wanting special favors? Whites are totally innocent and have nothing to do with it? Not even the White Aryan Nation idiot who keeps posting links to Odin's Lounge? - Cartoon 1 - Cartoon 2 - Cartoon 3
Oh no, this isn't racism! Just a bunch of minorities wanting special favors...
Jeez, your argument isn't even original. In case your limited mind doesn't realize it, but your argument is straight out of the Koalition of Konservative Kaucasians handbook!

innocent white people
I've heard tales of this tribe called the "innocent White people". Please, tell me where can you find them so that I see them for myself.
Why are all you Whites posting anonymously and giving vague anecdotal examples straight out of the Koalition of Konservative Kacuasians handbook?
Come on, indentify yourselves and give use some concrete examples of this reverse discrimination you claim exists. Facts or statistics would be nice...

Re:Or worse...
Yup, that's why I had "who should all be trained with firearms" on there...It's always fun explaining the facts to people like el_chicano who are too busy jerking their knee to do research.
I'll give you the "unorganized" militia point (i.e., arm the the rabble, the unwashed masses that make up the U.S.). Supposedly that is so citizens can stop the Government from taking over.
Excuse me? Small arms vs Abrams tanks, Bradley APCs, F-16, bombs, missiles, nukes, etc.?
Don't give me "little Viet Nam took on and defeated the big, bad U.S.". Most "Americans" can barely lift the remote control and you expect them to move out to the woods and fight the "evil incarnate" government?
Hell, most Americans love government. They want their social security checks, interstate highways, national defense and national parks. They also know that they can't trust big business to keep the very air we breath and water we drink clean!
Anyway, why do you duck well regulated? Could it be that regulation is a governmental task, so maybe gun control is -- dare I say it -- Constitutional? :->
Who the fuck are you to give me shit when you won't even identify yourself? I am an Army veteran "trained in firearms", so I don't have take any crap from a cowardly junior member of the Kouncil of Konservative Kaucasians!!!

Re:Internet Origins?
If you want more Spanish on internet sites & in tech jargon, then have more Spanish speaking people &/or companies come up with devices & give them Spanish names & slowly let it infiltrate into mainstream tech jargon.
You have to remember that these guys are academics, who are interested in the PURITY of the language, so they are somewhat removed from most speakers of that language. I am sure they are equally aghast at words like "enchorito" which sounds like it came from the fevered mind of a Taco Hell market-droid on acid!If you *live* in the U.S. you *NEED* to learn English, not expect Americans to learn Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Hebrew, etc...
Why? Is the average American so much dumber than the average European? Or many Canadians and Latin Americans? Or me? :-> I think the reason more Americans don't learn other languages is sheer intellectual laziness...We simply cannot learn that many languages to accomodate so many foreign cultures, but the immigrants can afford to learn one language if they choose to live here!
Hmmm.... I've heard those words somewhere before... Rush? Pat? Adolph? When you move to another country, they aren't required to adapt to you at all, but if you want to have *ANY* hope of fitting in & making a life for yourself, you *MUST* learn at least their language & a lot of their customs (as long as said customs don't compromise your values).
So as long as I learn English I don't have to accept any American values that conflict with my polygamous cannibalism? Cool! And for any who might be lame enough to say it, *NO*, learning a new language is not compromising values.
Is true if you are an immigrant but apparently it isn't for those lucky enough to be born in the US.
You DO know that there is no offical language in the US, don't you? You do know that the current de facto language de jour (English) may not remain the one in the future? You do know that we Chicanos are breeding like rabbits? You do know that we are sneaking all of our cousins across the Rio Grande? :->
If affirmative action was in vogue, maybe Intel would hire lots of Latinos and have them design chips. Maybe then they could name some of the discoveries and products in Spanish.
The new Intel "Caliente" -- Ouch, Hot, Don't Touch! There's truth in marketing for you! :->

What about Spoken Word? The big thing that all of these discussions seem to miss is the idea of satellite delivered spoken word, or what the industry refers to as "talk radio". Many people discount this because they think it would only going to bring us programs like Rush Limbaugh or Dr. Laura. But consider a few other possibilities:
- technical discussions like Dr. Dobb's Technetcast
- Geeks in Space
- Financial planning programs like MoneyTalk
- Non-computer technical support programs like Car Talk

Re:You are allowed...
Bush = BAD
O.K., go ahead and defend the idiot son of one of the worst presidents we have ever had. He has been one of the worst governors we have ever had (and Texas has had a lot of BAD Governors). Also, as Governor of Texas he has authorized arresting protestors. Slashdot says it is FOR free speech so I don't see where the problem is.
You just call it "Slashthink" because you cannot conceive that different people have different viewpoints than the narrow one you agree with. If you want a website that will agree with your "viewpoint" Slashdot is not it. Try this one --> Koalition for Konservative Kaucasians (a sanitized website whose intended audience is closet neo-Nazi's, not the overt kind).

Myth of 19,000 lost Gore votes.
For days we've heard about how there were 19,000 double-punched ballots that were thrown out in Palm Beach county. This story seems to come up right after mention of the confusing "butterfly ballot", with the implication that about 19,000 people:
- got confused when trying to vote for Gore,
- punched the Buchannan hole
- realized they goofed and punched the Gore hole
- turned the ballot in, and
- the computer kicked it out as dobule-punched, so
- their vote didn't get counted, and
- Gore lost most of those 19,000 votes.
Well, it turns out that's NOT what happened.
It seems that Mary Matialin (a conservative commentator) got suspicious. So she actually CALLED the poll workers and ASKED what this was about.
It turns out that the 19,000 "spoiled ballots" were ACTUALLY people who:
- mispunched their ballot (in ANY way at all),
- realized they'd goofed,
- took the ballot to the election officials and said "I goofed. Please give me a replacement.",
- were told "Sure. Here",
- punched that one,
- (maybe screwed it up too ... loop until they're happy with one), and
- turned it in.
So if any of these 19,000 ballots was a Gore supprter, Gore GOT the vote in question. (He might have missed some votes if the voter didn't realize until after they'd turned it in that they'd screwed up. But there aren't 19,000 worms in THAT can.)
You won't hear about this on the establishment media, of course. But Mary talked about it, and Rush Limbaugh picked it up, and put it on both his show and his web page. Here is the link.
(The page also makes an anaecdotal claim about Palm Beach county being a hotbed of Buchannan support, which could also explain its outlier status in the Buchannan count.)
(Again I'm not claiming to have checked any of this myself - just posting the reference for your perusal. Enjoy!) -

The ballot...
If you want to take a peek, here's the Ballot. Doesn't look too confusing to me. This morning, I heard Bob Dole say that the voters must take some responsibility. I'd have to agree. If Gore loses Florida because some voters in Palm Beach made a mistake, then they have no one but themselves to blame.
<rumor> I'm under the impression that the form was designed by a democrat. He said that the form was designed as such so that it would fit all the candidates on the page with sufficiently large enough print so that everyone could read the ballot. </rumor> -
Here are pictures of the ballot
They are on Rush Limbaugh's site, because that is the only link I have handy (a republican friend of mine sent it to me). Here it is
And I agree. What? You can't follow an arrow? -
Re:The "Gore/Buchannan" ballot!I gave a "deep link" because the page was loading slow, but I think someone was just hogging the pipe here at work. Here's the real page:

Re:Smoking Gun: Buchanan Strong in Palm Beach?
Here is a picture of the Palm Beach ballot. The election official, who is a democrat, said that she was trying to improve the readability of the ballot for older voters in the district. She also said that they sent sample ballots to all voters and no one complained before election day.

Re:So it wasn't just me
I read that message and couldn't figure it out either. A libertarian going to Gore?!? Heck, why not go all the way and vote Nader?
He is what those of us on the right would call a "seminar caller." Such an individual is one who calls a talk show (let's use Rush Limbaugh as an example) and usually claims to be a Republican (especially a "moderate Republican," a species also known as "RINO," for "Republican In Name Only") who has some misgivings about the conservative candidate du jour. After some back-and-forth dialogue between Rush and the caller, it's readily apparent that the caller is really a pinko Democrat who's been put up to the call by his party bosses; he's been coached on the things to say that (they believe) will get the caller on the air (never mind that most decent talk shows welcome opposing points of view as a way for the host to play off the caller and look good by comparison
:-) ).It would seem that
/. has been visited by what we could thus call a "seminar poster." Claiming to be a Libertarian is a new twist. As I see it, on many (most?) of the issues that matter, Libertarians usually track closer to Republicans than to Democrats. Hell, I've even voted for a Libertarian candidate or two (usually to avoid voting for a RINO, though the usual unfortunate effect is that the Democrat wins), and on the previously mentioned Presidential Candidate Selector, the candidate they said tracks closest to my views was Howard Phillips at 63%. (Dubya and Dick Cheney were close at 53% and 60% respectively, vs. Algore and Holy Joe at 18% and 28%. Go ahead and call me the Anti-Nader, too, as he placed dead last at 5%. Amusing stuff, that candidate selector, even if the results weren't much of a surprise.) -
Anyone seeThom Yorke of Radiohead put up the sign "Let Ralph Debate" on Saturday Night Live? I thought that was cute.
I also believe in it. I'm going to vote Bush, because Rush is Right, but geez! I think every person on the ballot should be getting to speak!!! I mean, news is so biased (er... well I guess so is Rush hehe), and all of the candidates don't get nearly as much time. Just because they're not viable? I don't believe it. I'd like someone to step up to the plate, but at this point the umpire is calling them out before they get there.

Re:I have a question...I'm pretty "up" on Limbaughisms, but don't recall hearing this particular one used by him.
You might try checking this web site, which I thought was his (and only recently came into existence), but on my Netscape with JavaScript disabled, I get an empty document, so maybe I've got the wrong URL there.
Anyway, if you can find his web site, supposedly there are transcripts of shows (maybe the last few months since it went on-line?) -- try searching for "libberish".
BTW, a problem with "libberish" is that perhaps some could take it for "libertarian gibberish".
Oh, and the equivalent term for conservative ideas these days is "shrubbish".
(Okay, I admit, I just made that one up all by myself. Apologies to the next President.
;-)
