Re:First World Problems
I'm not supposed to waste water in a drought. so I am supposed to put the "scraped clean" but rinsed plastic in the bin (ref), then the recycling facility washes it in a system that recycles the grey water.
except these recycling companies often get caught sending much of what they pick up to the dump, often before it even hits the sort facility. The protocol at most centers is if the sorting line is backed up, recycling trucks are routed to the dump.

Re:This is an ovbious question...
The vacancy rate for my 50-year-old apartment complex and the surrounding apartment complexes are at 50%
Then you live in such a shitty neighborhood that nobody else wants to live there. Rental vacancy rates in Palo Alto and San Jose are nowhere near 50% - for the past few years, they've been hovering in the 3-6% range. The most recent 2015 census data supports that, and more recent numbers from the city of San Jose and Palo Alto both support that as well.
Census: https://factfinder.census.gov/...
San Jose current numbers: http://www.sanjoseca.gov/index...
Palo Alto current numbers: http://www.paloaltocompplan.or...Furthermore, you're renting, because you literally cannot afford to buy anything more than a cardboard box in an alley there in the Valley.
Correct. For the kind of work that I do.
Which is what? You claim you're a miracle worker, but then you claim that you get entry-level intern rates. Either you've got the skills to command a higher salary, and you're stupid enough to not demand that higher salary, or you don't have the skills, and the equivalent of entry-level jobs is all you'll ever have, because you are incapable of learning anything.
A 25 year old making what you do would be "doing kind of okay, I guess." A 45+ year old making what you make should be embarrassed at never having bettered himself.

Re:Average
I'm not pimping any skills anymore. I'm perfectly happy where I am, not climbing the corporate ladder. I've gotten enough roots planted now where my future looks pretty solid.
You quote my "fucked" like it's inaccurate. If you had any concept of the world outside of your cubicle, you'd see it's still fucked. Local Silicon Valley cities are tanking. Here's some good reads since it doesn't seem like you see the world outside anymore.

City of Santa Clara in Deficit.
http://santaclaraca.gov/index.aspx?page=50&recordid=560I live in San Jose, CA.
Our economy tanked because of this stupid war we've been fighting for the last 10 years. Where we were during the
.com would have sustained if we had actually stayed the course, just stuck to going after Osama, and not blown trillions of dollars "liberating Iraq"Another reason our economy is tanking is because of the buzzwords uttered left and right by the 1% as our salvation to creating the ultimate world utopia. "Globalization" IT Salaries are increasing, but are the jobs actually increasing? No, they aren't. China has proven to stand on their own when it comes to engineering. I look at my Android HTC phones in awe. My LG microwave runs circles around any GE (which oddly enough, was made in china, and rebranded as GE)
The investing 1% doesn't give a rats ass about you. At the end of the day, if it's a choice between hiring you or someone overseas to do the same quality of work for cheaper. Guess what? You're nothing more than a sum() function on a spreadsheet to them.
This is what the OWS people have been fighting for. Sure, you might be making good money, but your "cloud" skills are just going to be used until your product is stable enough to get shipped overseas. Cloud means it doesn't have to be here.. Think about that... Corporations shouldn't be allowed to setup shop overseas unless they're willing to provide the same levels of safety, and workers rights that they would get in the states.
So enjoy your time in the clouds anon.

Re:Hours wasted in traffic
Here's a delay-based definition of LOS. (There are other definitions for LOS, but I like delay best. It bears the most relevancy to drivers. There's a lot of work that goes into deciding the delay numbers, but that's a pretty good quick definition. Wikipedia has a good definition that goes beyond the HCM definition. I couldn't find any pretty pictures, but this pdf shows approximately what we mean by the different levels of service.

Re:Breathing gray water spray?
I'm presuming they're using treated sewage (equivalent to the "recycled water" used for lawn irrigation at some silicon valley sites and including black water before treatment) rather than "proper" gray water (i.e. untreated sewage from bathtubs, sinks, and floor drains, but not toilets.)
See this FAQ for San Jose, CA's similar operation.
And if you think this stuff is safe, ask yourself why they can't use it for drinking. (And think about what it takes to kill Hepatitis virus, just for starters...)

Re:Sure shot...TO HELL!!!
I was just in the San Jose Mayors office yesterday. (I'm revamping one of the councilmembers websites) Even in the capitol of silicon valley, the IT is sooo outdated you would not want to be there.
The councilmembers assistant I was working with had a very old dell. I think it was a PII 400mhz. It was definetly running NT4.0 and the video driver was borked (16 color display yay!) I took a few minutes to fix it because I was there.
Thing is, EVERYONE there was running NT4.0. I think even the IIS servers hosting the cities web sites runs on NT4.0.
Maybe that's why our mayor had a stroke the other day. He was thinking about how M$ was going to EOL NT4 and the costs of licensing win2k. Maybe someone should tell him about these newfangled free operating systems.
But all jokes aside, if you do want to work for the .gov I really recomend coming in as a contractor unless you like working with outdated technology.
