"...links between science and the military..."
links between science and the military are nothing new
I agree. Why, even as long ago as Kirk's day, a scientist on the Genesis project was heard to remark "scientists have always been pawns of the military"...
...or was that chickens? -
Re:I am getting sick of this....For another, DS9 (the first series run soley by Berman) was actually very good (once it got going - the first season or two were quite.. icky).
Actually, Ira Steven Behr and Michael Piller were also executive producers. However, I don't think that it's a coincidence that Deep Space 9 picked up steam around the time when Voyager was launched. Personally I suspect Ira Steven Behr had far more to do with the success of Deep Space 9 than Berman ; he likely got more control of the show as Berman turned his attention to Voyager.
That's not to say that I think Berman is solely, nor even mostly responsible for the downfall of the franchise : Check Brannon Braga's credits : He had his fingers in a great deal of the two worst Star Trek shows. And notably absent from my favorite trek, DS9.

Chaka...when the walls fell
I think this has already been explored in STNG, language often needs a cultural basis for two entities to communicate
I also can't recall the actual study but there are peoples living in deep jungles that have no words for direction other than that of self reference.
There is no east west north south but only from me and towards me, above me and below me.
The tribe's sense of distance in the deep forests was incredibly honed as it's easy to get lost. -

This *CAN'T* be the real ship design......Except that it probably is. I'm a little disappointed that the ship is essentially indistinguishable from ST:TNG ships, except maybe the nacelle design. If ST:TOS ships are any indication, Federation ships of that era should be pretty awkward looking (not that it matters in space). The interior shots shown look promising - a little harder-edged than other ST, without the white decor, mood lighting etc. that appeared in later ships we're familiar with. I would have liked something even closer to the Nostromo or the Sulaco from the "Aliens" movies (in style, not overall hull shape), but I guess this is still Trek. I guess they feel that a Trek audience doesn't want to see their heroes flying around in a more tin-bucket style of spaceship, even if it is in the "past".
Of course, the REAL question is... Klingons: forehead ridges or no? They may be forced to answer the question of why the Klingons "don't like to talk about that"!

Its a fake
Yep, if the characters "tos" (The original series), Lennord, Forrest and Williams, and the similarities with vulcan science officer, renagade captain, etc. is not proof enough, section31.com posted:

My name is (Identity Preserved) and I'm a casting director in London. Having an office in New York allows me to obtain US casting information.
I'm afraid to say that all the information you have received about the next 'Star Trek' project is incorrect. The official information about the new show was given out a few weeks ago and the steps have been taken to ensure that information is kept confidential.
I truly believe that this is someone's idea of a practical joke. Even though the party in question went to extreme lengths to make the character info as a real document, it's a fake.
