Brisbane, the Gold Coast
In Australia, there's quite a lot of gaming related business happening on the Gold Coast and Brisbane, both cities in Queensland. If you wanted to take a look at the job market in I.T., Australia wide, the best website to use it Seek.com.au. Hope this helps! -Stolzy

Re:Adelaide
yep your ranking are the same as mine.
Brisbane is north eastern Australia (above sydney) a has tropical weather, Adelaide is down south and colder (in winter).
Adelaide has a smaller job market and thats probably what drives people away.
Brisbane, while small, seems to be growing and is more diverse
Adelaide IT jobs are mainly defense related.
I've included a link to a IT job page which I subscribe to, and i guess influences my opinions.
Adelaide and Brisbane are very afforadble for housing. 4/5 bedroom and pool for 300-400k or less.
Some links for you that may interest you...

I should also disclaim, that I/my wife have no relatives in Adelaide but we do have relatives in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, so I am probably biased towards Brisbane.
anyway happy browsing

My Experience
As an analyst, I am required to stay back as late as the managers "Incase im needed" just because I own a copule of design areas, So the hours are similar.
The pay is worse.
The responsibility is the same, who gets credit for sucess and ass kicking for failure?
I did a search to find out what Contracted PM's get. the only one that turned up in london is a Siebel project (Im on one atm). Bet the pay is awesome.
So If I aspire towards IT management, how shit does that make my job now? -

Re:One nice one..
I just went through their builder and it didn't spit out a resume in the end. It just seemed to make a thing for their interal job connection objectives. There was however an Ultimate Resume Guide that listed some tips and things.

One nice one..
OK, it's web based, and Australian..
But, SEEK has an online resume builder that is not too bad. It might give you some ideas anyway.

job seeking in AustraliaIf you're in Australia, check out seek.com.au. I've just moved cities, and every job I have gotten since I moved was from this site. (I found a few jobs for friends there as well)
Also:-
*do* call a contact number in the ad if there is one, let them know you have sent in your resume, and ask them a few questions about the job.
this means it's more likely your resume will actually be *looked at* -
*do* include important information in your resume cover sheet. eg - if typing speed is something they are likely to filter applications with, then include it on the cover sheet.
it saves them the time to read through the resume -
*do* include when you are available for work on your cover sheet.
same as above. -
*do* send your email applications in plain text. offer to send it in another format if this is preferred.
not all the people who filter job applications are good with computers, no matter what the industry. -
*do* include special skills you have that may not be specifically job relevant.
I am fluent in the Phonetic Alphabet, and put it on my resume. I had a lot of companies and recruiters call me to ask what it was. -
*do* email a company if they send you a virus in an email.
I received one from a company I had emailed my resume to. they offered me a job after I sent them an email detailing what virus they were infected with and how to remove it and prevent it in the future. I didn't accept their job offer, but I think they'll remember me if I contact them in the future.

In AustraliaI personally use Seek recruitment.
They allow me to search for contract, part time, full time or casual work contracts. They always have heaps of all types.
I've personally gotten a contract and a fulltime job out of them.

Melbourne - here's some links
I used to live in Wellington, New Zealand. And that's a nice city - but small, only 400K.
At the start of last year, I moved across the Tasman, to Melbourne. Melbourne is just a really nice place to live - great culture, night life, and the job scene seems to be going strongly.
I've found it pretty easy to settle in here, and meet people. There is always something to do. As for jobs.. try these sites:
IT Jobs site by Fairfax
Seek
Monster
As for other sites of interest, check out:
Immigration site
Autralian Taxation Office
Domain a great place to search for share accomodation
The Age newspaper
Umm.. I don't have links for what's on around the city, but some great stuff happens, apart from the good club scene - there's the formula 1 grand prix, if you like noisy loud things that go fast, moonlight cinema is a good thing in summer - outdoor movies. It's just really kind of relaxing and nice.
Melbourne is just really livable and has a good public transport system Victrip
Hope this helps.. and don't forget, I'm a kiwi saying this about Melbourne :) -
