no it's not as arbitrary because it gives the best outcome, given propper understanding of your environment. the potential to acheive 'the best outcome' outweighs any other system, until shown otherwise, no? this isn't randomness, this is optimisation. this hardly seems to me as arbitrary as just doing what you are told at all times.

and why not add e)? so long as you follow precedence a->e it shouldn't harm anyone. or if necessarry, add
e) harm no one*
f) do what you want.
a system that harms no one(As opposed to harming innocent people for stupid reasons). and furthermore why *not* have a system like this? without it, there's a chance everyone will be just trying to do things for their own self interest(arbitrary), and will. hell don't forget g) "if you don't know what to do in any situation, consider the ecconomics. cash is not the only thing in life, but it's really, really important." as the catch-all, and you have a complete code.(this of course isn't really a standard one in atheism, but is rather from ku lt. but its only one example of such optimisation, and may not be the best case. but it's a pretty good case, and far from arbitrary.


*actually it would make more sense to harm only those who harm others maliciously, or something to that extent. however i think that would open some cans of worms, and while it may be beneficial, may not be necessarry. i personally, beyond being busy with school, would have tried to kill one or two people whether i was an atheist, or whatever i am now. and they would deserve it. all the people that i've harmed in any way had it coming(ie if you pull a knife on someone and attack them, don't expect them to not say, hurt you in self defense, etc.)

i have a server. upwards of 99.9% of the uploads from my server are pornographic. sure, one could ask 'why do you serve porn to the internet', well, i serve most or all of my files(not including some legal copies of copyrighted materials;) )...and it just so happens some 0.1% of my files happen to be porn.
not only is 99% of my uploads porn, but i have had servers in the past(i think i've mentioned this before, but i can't find it due to slashdot's 24-comment-and-no-next-page limitation :/) with good percentages of uploads of files like 'childporn.mp3'(sean kennedy, 'sluts.mp3' and now 'rocked by rape'(evolution control comittee) ranks in the top 20 or so. neither of these are pornographic, although they discuss sexual issues.
why is it that most of the time when i look for porn online i find lolita-9 year old virgin preteen incest files before i find anything i'd want to fuck? because this is what appeals to people and that it wouldn't be there if there wasn't massive demand.

people are fucked up, okay?! if you legislate or in any way break the freedom of the internet up, you aren't *solving* anything. you are merely ignoring the fact that there are some perverted, nay, most of the people in the world are perverted sadistic sick fucks to whom raping children on film is something they can get off to. sure, YOU and your ancestors have evolved past this but THEY have not.

isn't it better to admit this, and as a community come to grips with this and then MABYE try to HELP this massive amounts of people bootstrap themselves into some sort of greater civility should one exist? someone suggested this awhile back but did not emphasize that humanity-as-a-whole-is-messed-up and i wish i had acess to their post as well :/

seriously though, i commend these people, whoever they are. don't forget, this isn't just about linux, this is about the integrity of the GPL, corporate power, the use and abuse of [patent &] copyright law, and many slanderous attacks, and probably a few things i can't think of at the moment. the open source community is more important than linux, and the spirit of community itself and the wellbeing of it's members(upheld by a union of closed and open source interests) is more important than the open source community...and microsoft definitely threatens this, and they are using SCO as a proxy means to this end. not to mention the PR damage allready done by 'playing fair' and letting darl and crew get away with the hell they have been.

SCO is playing dirty, and they started playing dirty. what did they expect? and really, this is just inevidible concerning for-profit unions of people as a whole... and this is an attack on them, believe me...therefor it is a just attack, and we should celebrate it. personally, i've been waiting for this day for quite some time.

i think i'm due for a statement on it (a lot of people around me have been talking about it...)... firstly, women have changed in the past hundred or so years. some say it's due to hormones in beef, but whatever the cause, 12-18 year old women are PHYSICALLY roughly equal to 18-24 year old women of the past. full breasted, full form, women. they have all their secondary sexual characteristics and are in some if not most cases indestinguishible from other women. however, the law still treats them like little girls. once again, technology and the human species have outpaced law. especially in the united states where you have to be like 21 or something before you can be in porno(what the fuck? most women i know lose their virginity i'd estimate at or before 17. and some of the more slutty way before that. 21 for legality sake is just plain retarded. theres a lot of temptation between 16 and 21, especially in a sex-crazed culture like the one we have(woo) ) in the meanwhile, rape, and things glorifying the rape of children, and things glorifying sex with children, and predetorial sex, and above all predatorial rape sex with children, all on film and for profit just turns my stomach. can someone please tell me one reason why something like this is not a Bad Thing? and by children i mean not-even-trying-to-make-the-girls-seem-like-women. ..i mean exploiting whatever biological trigger there is in some men to be sexually attracted to children, FOR PROFIT.
if anything can be inspired by this, is that if you have no morality but that of the dollar, predatorial rape sex with children on video for profit is inevidible, and since this is in some way wrong(axiom?), pure capitalism(the morality of the dollar), is also to that extent wrong, and incomplete.

i think if you REALLY wanted to probe into what people find offensive, you wouldn't look at something that MIGHT be okay, when it boils down to it (secondary sexual characteristics are more important than law...it is in their name that the law was likely written).
another tangeant on this, is it also depends how old the male is.
when i was 16 i had some porn with 15-17 year old women in it. when i was 18 i found those files and saw them as "way too young", and deleted them. now that i'm 21 files i saw when i was 18 seem too young. this is important to notice(after all, wasn't there someone in your grade that you would have given anything to fuck? like grade 5? 6?)
the last interesting thing to note, is that i once had limewire or something installed, and it kept track of how many and which files were downloaded off my hard drive while connected to the gnutella network. day in, day out, i had something like 100x more downloads of a file called "childporn.mp3" than anything else. this scares the fuck out of me. what was the file? it was a rant by sean kennedy, saying about how he would kill and otherwise incite mass suffering on people who (make/host) child porn. or something.

anyways, i think i've rambled enough.

it wasn't me who wrote that(i wish i were that talented!). Rather, it was written by one Sean Kennedy (the fuckin man). I hope he publishes it one day, and when he does i will be one of the first to purchase it.
but you raise an important point, nonetheless. your absolutely right, it is their right as an isp to censor or not allow me to do certian things. However, it is also my right as their customer to tell them to shove it, because i beleive that all information should be free.

Sean Kennedy, The Fucking Man (sktfm.tv) wants his episodes/broadcasts mirrored! His material is very informative, as well as extremely entertaining. Such media survives best in the wild.

TFtAN is a great show and unfortunately SeanKTFM had to stop making them for a while b/c like most of us he's too broke to put in the time and effort required to make them as kick ass as they are. Maybe a few good slashdot posts linking them will inspire.

DivX is certainly not only used for the 'illegal' purpose of 'pirating' movies. Plenty of people use the DivX codec, being free, (somewhat) open source and likely to offer the best quality/size ratio and flexibility for video compression available today.

Check out SKTFM.TV for a good example of what you can achieve with a DV camera and the DivX codec. Plenty of people use DivX as a way of distributing home-made videos, and more people would do it if the software was easier to use and its existance was better known.

To create an official MS media player application supporting playback of DivX movies would be a smart move by Microsoft, especially if accompanied with an easy-to-use, inexpensive DivX encoding package for PCs. This would truly bring home-made digital movies into the mainstream and X-Box sales would likely increase among users who aren't prone to hax0ring or modding.

Since both MS and Sony are attempting to create a complete home entertainment system with their consoles, to replace the VCR, DVD and CD-player, for MS not to do this when it's within their capability seems stupid. It'd definitely give them an edge over the PS2 and would be a good way for them to show off what actual advantages the superior processing power of the X-Box can offer.

And just for fun... DivX 3.11alpha (commonly known as DivX ;-) ) was a cracked rip-off of a MS codec, which has since seen versions 4 and 5 with major improvements along the way. It'd be ironic if MS took the codec back under its wing, after it's soaked up all the open-source goodness the Project Mayo guys put in it.

actually...i know your trying to joke off of the fight club. however...if you take a look at any of these,..all of these(look under sean kennedy show in rantradio)...have a similar idea i believe...that is...starting as a multilevel terrorist orginization with cells capable of operating independantly.

i just remember one day...after joining an international terrorist orginization...being ...in the prescence of a beautiful woman...who made soap...during a portion of my life where i travelled to meat this beautiful woman...(Thus loosing all sense of direction)...and being a coffee induced insomniac. remembering the fight club during all of this was scary, to say the least.
