Andrew Crosse
If you haven't already heard of Andrew Crosse and his experiments this is well worth a look. http://www.spartechsoftware.com/dimensions/mystical/AndrewCroise.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Crosse The biochemical experiments conducted in 1837 produced insects which were later named acari or Acarus Crossii

You don't need a tree, just your own sweat...http://www.spartechsoftware.com/reeko/Experiments

Re:Fishy
AFAIK, no one ever proved that Daniel Dunglas Home was a fraud. Not saying I believe he was the real deal, I'm just saying that perhaps claiming that "EVERY SINGLE EXAMPLE OF IT TO DATE HAS BEEN [proven] FRAUDULENT" may not be accurate. And to call someone a moron when you probably have never even heard of this guy doesn't exactly demonstrate your superior knowledge and intellect on the topic.

natural born killers
Hey, if a parent wants to train their child to become a better killer, what right does the government have to interfere in that natural order?

How about a meteor strike?
Maybe this is a meteor strike, like the one in Tungusta, Russia in 1908?
According to this article, the Tungusta blast was around 40 megatons. The Hiroshima bomb was only 13 kilotons.
I'm not saying this is a meteor strike, but I am saying we should keep in mind that there are other explanations. Let's wait until we see some radiation readings before we reach a conclusion.

Re:Maybe I'm being cynical, but..." They could save a lot of time and money if they would just red-flag every black and Arabic person in line."
What a great idea. Let's see if we miss anyone by going with your new security system, shall we?
Jeffrey Dahmer
Perhaps a planeload of these fine, upstanding citizens is your cup of tea. Personally, I'd rather have better detection systems and better trained airport security personnel.
