But I just now looked it up and it's really between 7 and 11 (11 for those of us who separate, as two of the 7 are triple-vaccines):

We're not talking feds here, nor are we talking Ireland or Belgium as some other poster stupidly said earlier in the thread. We're talking about Mississippi.

Since Mississippi joined the Union in 1817, several forms of execution have been used. Hanging was the first form of execution used in Mississippi. The state continued to execute prisoners sentenced to die by hanging until October 11, 1940, when Hilton Fortenberry, convicted of capital murder in Jefferson Davis County, became the first prisoner to be executed in the electric chair. Between 1940 and February 5, 1952, the old oak electric chair was moved from county to county to conduct executions. During the 12-year span, 75 prisoners were executed in the Magnolia State for offenses punishable by death.
In 1954, the gas chamber was installed at the Mississippi State Penitentiary. It replaced the electric chair, which today is on display at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy. Gearald A. Gallego became the first prisoner to be executed by lethal gas on March 3, 1955. During the course of the next 34 years, 35 death row inmates were executed in the gas chamber. Leo Edwards became the last person to be executed in the gas chamber at the Mississippi State Penitentiary on June 21, 1989.
On July 1, 1984, the Mississippi legislature partially amended lethal gas as the stateâ(TM)s form of execution in ÂÂ 99-19-51 of the Mississippi Code. The new amendment provided that individuals who committed capital punishment crimes after the effective date of the new law and who were subsequently sentenced to death thereafter would be executed by lethal injection. On March 18, 1998, the Mississippi legislature amended the manner of execution by finally removing the provision lethal gas as the alternate form of execution.

So no, unless you think dieing is less punishment than fifteen years, all of you guys are just plain wrong.

RTFL. It's very short. Quoting it:

2(d) "False information" means data that misrepresents the identity of the caller to the recipient of a call or to the network itself; however, when a person making an authorized call on behalf of another person inserts the name, telephone number or name and telephone number of the person on whose behalf the call is being made, such information shall not be deemed false information.

and also:

3(1) A person may not enter or cause to be entered false information into a telephone caller identification system with the intent to deceive, defraud or mislead the recipient of a call.
(2) A person may not place a call knowing that false information was entered into the telephone caller identification system with the intent to deceive, defraud or mislead the recipient of the call.

So it's "with intent". I don't see anything wrong with the law as it stands.

Grandparent might have assumed that a Film has to be from one of the big Hollywood productions or it does not qualify.

If you look at netflix online movies they have 'only' 12,000 titles available, yet quite a few people (including my wife) think the selection is limited which is true since they have about 100,000 titles on DVD, most of it are American titles, and while their foreign selection is ok they miss a *lot* of things. I pretty sure that many countries produce more than 160 movies each every year, heck Tokyo alone might produce that many 'features' every month (not stuff to show to your grandma though).

I think the grandparent tried to show he was smart by proving his ignorance and this is just your typical american that see the world like this. A few miles from where I live we have The Language Capital of the World, The Garlic Capital of the World and the Artichoke Center of the World.

My point ? For many people in the US the 'World' ends at the county line.

p.s.: before the grammar nazis show up let me say that English is my third language, ... and it's 4AM.

Each state has an archives + history department (or somethign similar to archive all state history). You can go to your state's archies and history dept and pull just about any state newspaper from any time period that you want. We go from the present (well a couple of weeks before present, it takes us a few days to convert the newspaper to microfilm). our oldest newspaper on microfilm is from 1736.

Yes its not online. we don't have the staff or money to put it online, pesently, but we are trying to put as much of our records online right now.

Anyway, you can check out the one I work for, and if you Live in Mississippi, please come by and check us out. We are open 6 days a week and are totally free.

Let's see, the Comics Code Authority came into being in 1954, according to Seal of Approval: The History of the Comics Code. Spiderman debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962. The X-Men debuted in 1963.

What I THINK Jon was trying to talk about was the demise of EC comics. In the late 40's and early 50's, they published a line of gruesome comics, most famous of which today is Tales from the Crypt. In the anticommunist paranoia of the 1950's, EC ended up shutting down under extreme pressure. There's a lot more to the story than that, and it's a very good story, but it ain't Marvel's story. Spidey was approved by the Comics Code Authority from day 1.

A typically American story, it's less pretentious and hyped than Star Wars and more accessible to kids and die-hard comic book buffs, who remember the great, golden age of Marvel Comics.

The great golden age of comics? Now you're milking a grumpy old man act? How many comic book companies' work could you buy in an average comic book store in that "golden age"? Marvel and DC and....? For a guy who writes page after page after page about how the ease of publishing online constitutes some kind of revolution, you're brushing off web comics pretty easily.

You were reading comics in 1962? Giving you the benefit of every doubt, that says you were born in 1957, and you're 45 now. So either you're lying through your teeth about this, or all your supposed identifications with youth culture are pretty suspect....

I also looked up on the web site the part that they seem to be referring too. The Mississippi Gaming Commission has rules which governing software as it Relates to Gambling! If the software you are writing is not going to used for gambling, like generating results, they are clearly have overstepped their bounds, and you are not going to have to pay anything. Now if Excel spreadsheet is going to used for Gambling then they have some justification for their position. The issue is what type of software are you writing.

IANAL but I just had a look at the regs on the MGC's website (http://www.mgc.state.ms.us/), and I couldn't find mention of a regulation that all software sold has to be licenced. There is however a condition that any accounting system implemented has to fulfil certain criteria. When the bingo hall got its licence it had to submit details about what sort of accounting system it intended to implement. Note this is not neccessarily a computing system, but system in the broader sense of the word. The problem is that if they decide to IMPLEMENT (not purchase) a new accounting method they have to modify their gaming licence. Thus in reality you should not be the one responsible for costs of licencing your software, but the bingo hall may be.
