Shoutcast still going.
They even did a front page web design.
I don't get to pick the exact songs, but I haven't gone looking for a station and not found something to listen to. All the way to standup comedy and talk radio.
It works on my phone, browser, Foobar2000, Winamp. If I want to time shift it or make a playlist for an old MP3 player there's StationRipper.

Other options...
Well how very stupid. What exactly are they preventing people from recording? I mean, if it's internet radio (like pandora.com, aol radio, et al) you can just get something like Stationripper to record it. Or is this just to prevent people from recording their OWN CD's to a computer? Ummm.... isn't that a ok fair-use thing to be doing? Don't they have something BETTER to do then hassling legit uses of their music???

Rippers
Noticed this reaction from one ripping software company. Used the software before, works petty good... and I agree with a lot being said on this about the latest in this mess.

Stream Ripping?
What'd I'd like to know is how this effects Stream Ripping - I use StationRipper daily - originally 'cause I was tired of P2P and the lawsuits related to that. Seemed like a valid "fair use" way to record music. Like my Tivo. Actually... does this mean Tivo is now going to get sued???

Re:The free songs are streamed, not downloaded
StationRipper to the rescue again!

Software and Money
I've actually considered embedding Ads in the main StationRipper window... but don't' know if that would be overly annoying. And showing something like Google ads may be against the rules...
What I would really like to find is an aggregator that pays per impression... but DOESN'T do pop-ups, unders, animated ads with sound, etc. While most people use pop-up blockers these days, I refuse to do something that annoying.
Is there some OTHER way other open source developers are making money off of smaller products like this, besides donations and ads? I doubt the pay-for-support route will work for something like this. While I wouldn't ever expect to make a lot, it would be nice to cover costs + have a bit left over to invest in the next development machine.
I'm actually a bit of a cross-roads with the software. I've got some ideas to expanding it a lot, fix a lot of things users want fixed and add a lot of new function - but is it worth continuing down that path, or start working on something else that may be a bit more sales-oriented? So far I've done it 'cause I love programming and it was something interesting and useful to work on - but it's mostly been (lots) of support, and very little code as of late.

ITunes Radio Rip = StationRipper
I've been using StationRipper for a while now to rip iTunes Radio. You can use the Find Streams button to find an active iTunes radio stream (and can use MyStations after that to just connect to it). Guess iTunes uses shoutcast? Anyone know how to get a new stream on iTunes Radio? It kinda looks like some of the streams from shoutcast.com, but a a few are diff (some that used to be on shoutcast aren't listed there any more but are on iTunes now).

Forget P2P, I just use StationRipper
Well I, for one, just use a good ripper to get all my music. Looks like WinAmp on the network, isn't traceable, is legal (at least from a fair use perspective) and I get up to 2k new songs a day. Screw the RIAA.
