Re:No offense Turbine, but make MAC versions
DDO uses DirectX for rendering, and it would take a LOT of effort/money to recode the graphics engine at this point, and since the number of Mac people who would pay money would be fairly low, the return on investment would be so low that it would be a money losing effort. Then again, you KNEW that the selection of games that support Mac was fairly low when you bought your computer, so if you want to play games, you should have known that you would need to set up Windows to play the vast majority of games.
You also have to look at how many people on a given platform may turn into paying customers early in the program development cycle. If you do not expect many Mac people to buy your game, and it will cost $1 million in development costs to support that platform, do you REALLY see it as a wise investment? DDO started as a regular MMO with a subscription, and Free to Play only came out YEARS after the initial release. With this in mind, would you REALLY expect that the Mac platform would have made Turbine a profit?
Doesn't WINE work on Mac? I thought I downloaded the Mac version during the Lame Duck Challenge on the slim chance I would decide to spend frivolously on a computer.
http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/Dungeons_and_Dragons_Stormreach After reading those instructions, I have to wonder why so many zealots bitch and moan about Microsoft, knowing that a game is designed around that specific platform... I personally wouldn't cry that Mario was designed to run on Nintendo because I can jump through 1000 hoops to make it work on my Sega. I'm just sayin...

Re:What GNU/Linux gaming area?
GTA:SA is reported to work under Cedega when you use nocd to get around their copy-protection (I love "copy-protection" that only serves to support Windows PC gaming monopoly... grr).

Re:This is my single biggest push to free software
There's more info on Cedega's wiki: http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/Main_
P age
Btw, I'm not a "Cedega fanboi", neither do I have a subscription. I'm just praying for the day that "The Sims 2" will be supported, so I can finally convert my GF's PC. -
Re:does WoW work on linux???
It's my understanding that it runs rather well in wine, Cedega, and Crossover. I've not tried anythind beyond Cedega, but here are some links that you can check for some information.
Cedega Wiki WoW entry
Official TransGaming WoW support forum
(my own forum posts) Cedega WoW/Burning Crusade install 'guides' :
World of Warcraft
Burning Crusade
It's amazing what you can get working with these "emulators" when a large group of people are interested in it. Hence my complaints against Cedega when it comes to Counter-strike and WoW. -
Re:Just Wait...
WineX/Cedega has had support for Everquest under Linux for over 4 years:

Re:I switched as well
VMware doesn't support 3D hardware acceleration, what you need is Wine or Cedega, I don't know about the other game, but Civ4 is running perfectly fine on my Linux machine under Cedega, check this guide for details.
Before you try to run a game under Wine or Cedega, I suggest you check their respective databases at appdb.winehq.org and transgaming.org/gamesdb. -
Re:Windows is still the compatible choice
Unless you're a real junkie for City of Heroes or EQ2, no need for Windows.
Or more accurately...Unless you're a real junkie for EQ2, no need for Windows.
COH is supported on Linux via Cedega.

Re:My experience with Cedega
So because you gave it one try and couldn't get it to work for whatever reason, that has to mean that everyone else who claims it works fine must be lying? What a ridiculous argument.
Did you read the release notes for your version of Cedega? Did you search through the nearly 2500 posts dedicated to Source games on the Cedega discussion forums? Did you look anywhere else on the web for help?
Or did you just give up and start badmouthing a program because you couldn't get it to do something that many other people can?
FWIW, I played HL2 (and SimCity 4 and GTA3:VC) with few to no problems with Cedega 4.3 . It's not impossible if you're willing to actually configure your installation properly. -
Re:My experience with Cedega
HL2, installed and played till the end with the cedega release at that time, problems encountered - 0.
Perhaps you have an ATI card, which is known to cause problems. or perhaps 3D accell was not installed properly, which would explain 1fps.
check the cedega unofficial wiki entry for HL2 at - http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/Half_L ife_2
in my personal expirience, all supported games have always worked without any! problems. in fact i have small lan parties with friends (windows users) and it all works without problems (call of duty, battle field, etc). -
Re:As a gaming platform?
Have you checked out their Games DB? Specifically: http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/World
_ of_Warcraft#Mouse_Issues
If/when you upgrade to 5.0 I got the same fix to work by editing the ~/.cedega/configuration_profiles/cedega_5.0 file.
