  What is a System Administrator

  An individual responsible for maintaining a multi-user computer system, including a local-area network (LAN), wide-area network (WAN), Telephone system, or voice-mail system. See Figure 1. Typical duties include:

Adding and configuring new workstations
Setting up user accounts
Installing system-wide software
Performing procedures to prevent the spread of viruses
Allocating mass storage space
Answering questions
The system administrator is most often called the sysadmin, or S.A., or just the systems administrator. Small organizations may have just one system administrator, whereas larger enterprises usually have a whole team of system administrators

The plus side: sysadmin day comes but once a year, and if I can thank the manufacturer of windows OS for anything it would be the highly visible justification they provide for our management to kick down some goods and buy us some chocolate cake...

I worked at an ISP at the time that this was happening and we were quite well aware of these vulnerabilites. We often referred to CERT when looking for vulnerabilities that may have affected us. It was through sites like those that we found out about the problems with OpenSSL and we made the necessary changes. I'm not sure why it was found that many others didn't do what was necessary. Perhaps there are many admins that don't understand that they need to keep themselves up to date on these matters, and of course, they are often busy with many other tasks. It's not easy being an admin. Maybe that's why there is a System Administrator Appreciation Day.

Wrong. Does it have games? Minesweeper? Nope, Diablo... And I don't know how many other applications I have added to my Windows system even though windows shipped with a version of an app I added. MS Paint? Right. Paint Shop Pro for me. The same goes for default shipments of Linux.

I have enough problems with Windows and all the system/DLL issues. I was hoping Linux would be a tad easier - WRONG. Until Linux can emulate the ease of install that Windows has it is doomed to the techies.
