My 2017 Honda Civic is running Debian. It is so outdated that even the app the comes with it won't update or run. I went to the dealership and I might as well have gone to the grocery store. All I got was blank stares. I wrote Honda and got nothing back. I fear many of these cars that have smart consoles are just IoT devices waiting to be exploited.
Yes, I tried updating it but Honda, like Samsung to phones, has their own flavor.
I guess 0 bars and the inability to connect would make you a winner... and T Mobile and Sprint. Damn AT&T is the ONLY service I can get and I am in a suburb!
When we lived in the Seattle area and would visit National Parks we would see vultures hanging around the parking lots. Apparently they liked the fish-oild based wiper blades and the soy bungie cords. The NPS tried thier best to keep them away but not much worked.
I also had squirrel eat over 1K of wiring on my solar panels. Apparently the coating was soy based so the squirrels would next under the panels and snack. After replacing all the stripped wiring I now have a squirrel guard around all my panels.
Anything that CAN be a food source for critters WILL be a food source.
I use feedly on my phone and BazQux on my PC. I prefer to skim the sites and read just the articles I want. I can cover a lot more ground with a reader. I also like that both remember where I left off on a site.
I have been wearing progressives now for over 2 years. 2 21" monitors at work, a 24" one at home. Don't even realize I have progressives on. About the only time I do is when I have to fit my head in to a rack to read off a serial number of a server... but I don't do that anymore either. I use my phone to take photos. took me about 5 minutes (or less) to get used to them once I went from contact/readers to progressives.
My daughter goes to UofMN and has a very painful 1Mb service in her apartment for $30/month! CL says they are looking to improve the offerings in her building but she is not holding her breath. We haven't been told we can NOT get other service BUT there is currently no other service in her area. No monopoly you say? Wish this service would work its way around the University.
I have a 6.88Kw array (https://enlighten.enphaseenergy.com/pv/public_systems/MRhM160938) that has taken off nearly 70% of my bill. AmerenUE charges $0.17/Kwh peak, $0.08/Kwh off peak. if I generate electricity I make $0.02/Kwh (wholesale price). Besides panels we have now adjusted our lifestyle to the rates. We do laundry and dishes before or after rates change. We stay away from the middle of the day. Oh, and we bought a Nissan LEAF. I have it configured so it just charges during off peak. AmerenUE doesn't like solar anymore and since they technically met MO government requirement for renewable resource use they are taking all the carrots away.
So with the carrot gone they are now even trying to get a law passed where you are only allowed 1/2 of your max capacity for install (ie I would be only allowed 3.4KwH system). The company would come out with solar installers and make sure nothing extra would be allowed. They are doing all they can to stop Solar.
2 weeks didn't kill her. In fact, she made some international friends she plans to visits. And that wasn't the only thing she did. The family also did a HUGE trip around the State and National Parks in Utah. We mix both all the time.
You might want to look into something like this or this . My daughter took one out of this one, specifically one on Physics. She loved it and we plan to do another. My other daughter is looking forward to this one.
We were at Best Buy and the X Box game we wanted was out. I took a shot of the product bar code and found it nearby. I really didn't care so much about the savings and being able to get it right now without the 'oh, we can get it shipped to this store". I managed to locate it AND call the store that had it to hold it while I was in Best Buy.
I would hate to be a retailer in this day and age...
With all the flavors of Android out there will google do something different to make this hardware can take upgrades? Hopefully google will keep Chrome OS in house and not sell it to vendors to cover with their unremovable crap.
Never had that problem. Guess you and I differ on what is a reasonable number of sick days. I mean right now I am carrying 275 hours of PTO. I just took a week off recently and a few days here and there. Last year I took a couple of weeks. Oh, and before that I was out for a few months (had to use EMTO - currently at 535 hrs) due to an accident.
They put all the days off in one pool. Sick, vacation, and personal. You mismanage and run out you don't get paid. You are allowed to carry quite a bit so there is no fear of being short of days when needed IF you plan well.
My wife jusy finished her PhD in Math. It was about 3 years but it was worth it! We have 2 kids, 11 and 13. She took night courses which meant that I took more care of the family. She teaches higher level math and is a great role model for my two girls who happen like school and math!
I hope more spouses are supportive and we see MORE math/science ladies!
asked what he wanted to be able to do and gave it to him in a Ubuntu system. OpenOffice, GIMP, and more make it easy. In fact, yesterday was the first 'support' call after a year. Seems he 'accidently' went to a questionable site and the system was trying to install something. Crashing the system then NOT restoring FireFox session worked like a charm. Oh, I did have to go out and show him where to plug in the printer. That worked right off the bat too. Best part was nearly 3 months after giving the system to him one of his students (he teaches music from his home) got on his PC and said 'Hey, this isn't windows!'. Har!
FF3 does not work well with SAP, our VPN, our timekeeping software, and a few other 'brower' apps. FF2 was good. Went back there. I still use FF3 to browse FROM work. The home PC though is still FF2.
the only 'tampering' I have found is that the Republican judges don't show up to work. Can't open the polls if only 1 party is present. Yes, I am is a very red state but he few blue areas that we have seem to misteriously have this happen. People (D and R) I am sure are figuring out how to game the system. Another example is the Supreme Court has basically disinfrancising many folks by requiring a government ID though there has been few if ANY cases of fraud.
I have been talking more to friends and family about this type of situation. What really hit it home was when my company upgraded and all the years of scripting and programming were gone. Obsolete. I realzied that what I do here doesn't really have much lasting value. I started messing with work working. Building a few things here and there. Now I am finishing my basement and loving the work.
I have decided to keep my 'job' to help my pay for what I enjoy: vacations with family and hobbies.
I don't check e-mail much at all at home. I am usually behind a new power tool or out playing with the kids and dogs. I don't carry a pager when I am off-call like some of my co-workers.
My goal is to find a few more hobbies that I can really sink my teeth into. Astronomy is one of them and with the help my my oldest daughter it is taking off. She asked for a 'real' telescope for Christmas. I obliged and now we spend quality time outside gazing up at the stars.
I live just west of St Louis. My kids showed up in the doorway while the first one was happening. The news didn't bother to report it until almost 20 min later. The second one happened while I was sitting at my desk at work. The crap on one of our bookcases started to rattle. USGS shows the 2 that I felt and a bunch that didn't seem to make it all the way.
Sort of brought me back to the days I lived in Bremerton WA.
Oh well, I can't write a good intro. But the point is, at one point I had thousands of units. My ISP went belly up with my registered address. There was no way for me to move my units to a new e-mail. In fact, e-mails to the SETI team probably went in to a black hole.
Regardless, they didn't help me keep the 'work' that I did... I don't see helping them again. Sorry.
When I worked at a financial institution we had a disaster recovery test where when the employees came to work they drew a marble out of a bucket. One color meant go home - you were unavailable for work. The other meant you were OK and could work. Made for an interesting day. The IS dept I worked for at the time did have its stuff together and ran flawlessly at about 50%. Mind you, this was just to maintain business for the customers. We could NOT stay staffed at that level if ANYONE in the organization ever wanted to do more than just keep the boat afloat. I wish my existing employer would do something like this.

Awesome advice. Came close once when I was in a motorcycle accident. A car hit me. Luckily I woke up at the ER.

None of which would have happened had Android not shown up.

Best of luck on your adventure.

No... but losing all that computer time was a tad upsetting.
I am over it now. Gone past the heavy drinking... the denial... all 12 or so steps.
I wish SETI the best, honestly I do, but without me this time.
(Oh I can hear the 'you are but a tiny spec in the cosmos' line now...)
A long time ago, on an ISP that went belly up...

a US Football field is 360 feet. A soccer field is 90-120 meters. And there are many more 'football' field definitions! There is a lot of room for error here! Details!
