Take-Two Acquires Kerbal Space Program
Eloking quotes a report from Polygon: Take-Two Interactive has purchased physics-based space simulation Kerbal Space Program, according to announcements from publisher Take-Two and developer Squad. "We have been impressed with Kerbal Space Program since its launch, and we are committed to grow this unique experience while continuing to support its passionate community," said Michael Worosz, senior vice president, head of corporate development and independent publishing at Take-Two, in a release. "We view Kerbal Space Program as a new, long-term franchise that adds a well-respected and beloved IP to Take-Two's portfolio as we continue to explore opportunities across the independent development landscape." Kerbal Space Program officially launched on PC in 2015. The game had been available through Steam's Early Access program since 2013. It has since gone on to sell more than 2 million copies on console and PC. Developer Squad said in a statement that the acquisition won't alter its plan for continued development of Kerbal Space Program. The developer is currently working on the Making History Expansion for the game. -

Grand Theft Auto V Keeps Raking In Money
jones_supa writes: At end of 2013, Grand Theft Auto V made $800 million during initial 24 hours of sales. The title keeps churning profit as the publisher Take-Two closes the book on fiscal year 2015, which ended March 31. The company reported better-than-expected profits of $54.3 million atop revenue of $427.7 million in its fourth quarter, a significant improvement over the $21.5 million profit it reaped from $233.2 million in revenue during the same period last year. This time around Take-Two once again credited GTA V as its premier revenue driver for the final quarter of the year. With PS4/XBOne/PC versions out as well, the game has been an excellent investment. Strong runner-ups were 2K titles NBA 2K15 and Evolve. -
Take Two/Rockstar Links With Sega Sports, Reveals Upcoming Roster
Thanks to GameGossip for its round-up of Take Two/Rockstar Games' recently announced financial results, as the publisher reported "net loss for the quarter [of] $14.6 million", but made significant announcements in the statement including "letter of intent entered into between Take-Two and Sega Corporation to co-publish and exclusively distribute on a worldwide basis Sega's ESPN Videogames." Elsewhere, it was noted that "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for the PlayStation 2 has sold approximately 300,000 copies as of the week ending May 30, 2004, making it one of the most successful debuts of a Western video game in Japan", and some less well-known forthcoming titles from various Take Two divisions include "Spy vs. Spy for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox [and] Ford Mustang: 40th Anniversary Edition for the PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox." -
Take Two/Rockstar Announce GTA Sales, Plans
Thanks to GameGossip for their coverage of a Take Two financial conference presentation in which the company revealed details on its software sales and plans. The company's Rockstar Games subsidiary has now, astoundingly, sold "over 25 million units" of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and "over 20 million" of those were from GTA3 and Vice City alone. Looking forward, the company's financial officers mentioned the November 19th release of GTA developer Rockstar North's gory Manhunt as a highlight, and also noted that "mid-2004 would see the release of The Warriors from Rockstar", as based on Walter Hill's cult gang movie. Finally, the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto, name as yet unknown, "will ship during late 2004." -

Game Company Financials Examined
An anonymous reader writes "An article over at Curmudgeon Gamer collects together and discusses the revenue reported over the past eight quarters for five game companies: Electronic Arts, Take Two Interactive, Activision, THQ, and Midway. Using graphs and some discussion, it reveals some interesting points and trends in the market. You can see how important Grand Theft Auto has been to Take Two, just how big EA really is compared to Activision, and whether the Xbox or GameCube is generating more revenue for these game companies." This is a very interesting attempt at collating and comparing revenue data for some of the bigger multi-platform game publishers. -
Duke Nukem Versus Take Two?
TimeTrip writes "There's a new column at CNN which offers a great overview of the ongoing problems with the Duke Nukem franchise. The publisher (Take Two) has serious issues with the developer (3D Realms), and vice versa. There's also some good quotes in there, including: 'George Broussard, co-owner of 3D Realms, fired back later that day on the message boards of Shacknews, one of the larger gaming community and news sites, suggesting 'Take Two needs to STFU imo.'" -
Myth 2 Update, Fanbase Keeps Game Alive
gomariusnet writes "The Mythdev group has released the 1.4 patch for the game Myth 2:Soulblighter. What is particularly special and unique about this is the circumstances of how this has come about: Mythdev doesn't work for the franchise publisher, they're just fans of the Myth series who have got a hold of the source code (assumedly under NDA), and have continued development of the game four years after its release. Thus far they've added support to Myth 2 for OpenGL, WinXP, Mac OSX carbonisation, fixed bugs, added a virtual Myth 1 mode, increased modding capabilities even further, have undertaken and completed a similarly large undertaking for Myth 3, and set up a server which supports both games to replace the departed server of Myth 2's creator, Bungie. Mythdev is looking for programmers to assist in porting the new, enhanced version Myth 2 to Linux and in further developing the game engine." We noted an earlier Myth 2 patch a couple of months back, and it's good to see projects like this and the unofficial Anachronox patching keeping old titles working and enhanced, years after release. -
Take 2 announces Space Colony for PC
Nathan writes "Take 2/Gathering and Firefly Studios have announced Space Colony, a new PC game allowing gamers to run a Space Colony, with the most dysfunctional crew ever assembled, whilst fighting off aliens and attempting to make a profit. The game promises a fresh style of gameplay, and should hit the retail market around September this year."
