Re:Is Cotton really dead?
When I RFTA, I see that Cotton died in India - how was this verified?
If I were an investor, I would want DNA proof that he was dead otherwise, I would think Interpol should be notified to start looking for him.
$137M disappears eight months before the only person with the password dies?
It could be criminally inept business practices or just simply criminal. I would look at the latter scenario.
Yeah, the actual subject of the confirmation of his death is weirdly absent from the reporting.
If he actually died they would have shipped the body back to Canada and had a funeral. Even if it were a family-only affair that would be pretty damn easy for a reporter to confirm and put an end to all the speculation.
The only article I've seen is this which states:
Despite a death certificate from Indian authorities and a statement of death from a Nova Scotia funeral home, an Indian police document giving permission to Robertson to transport Cotten’s body back to Canada, and confirmation from the hospital in which Cotten died about the circumstances surrounding his death, many of Quadriga’s users refuse to believe he is actually dead.
So if they had permission to transport the body back to Canada then where's the funeral or at least the Canadian funeral home who cremated it?
I'm not one for conspiracy theories... but I'm inclined to believe he's still alive.

'... would you be comfortable buying a car with a welded shut bonnet, where if anything goes wrong no matter how minor you have to send it back to the manufacturer and pay to have the entire engine replaced?'
You're talking about the SmartCar, aren't you?

Re:Double Standard
Can anyone justify this double standard as anything but extremely unfair?
Of course not. Islam is the media darling and can do no wrong because "islamophobia." Fun reminder, that at the extreme end of the media claiming islamophobia(a word coined by islamist extremists) and these things are problematic when people call out the BS. Then you'll see stuff like this and the media trying to cover it up, claiming that "the story needs more work."

Re:Garbage what?
Actually the developed world tends to ship their garbage to these parts of the world, and then pretends to be surprised when it ends up in the ocean.

Re:Sink it
We couldn't if we wanted to. We only buy overpriced, used subs from Britain that aren't safe, let alone ready for combat. Currently we don't have any submarines that have attack capabilities... so if you want to take over Canada, now is the time. http://thechronicleherald.ca/canada/74078-second-hand-subs-bad-deal-canada-says-british-mp

Re:What?
Sorry, I'm sure you're wrong on the pedophilia thing in Canada. It is an offense in Canada to have any material depicting children in sexual situations. Real, illustrated or other wise. Just a month ago I read an article in the Herald about two men being arrested for possessing manga. http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1148912.html The story has expired, but a quick Google search turned up other results including this one http://www.ngnews.ca/index.cfm?sid=296576&sc=49 which tells the story differently then it was on the 5 o'clock news. Originally there was no mention that the twins had any images of real children. The second article I linked to says that 90% of the images were manga, but some were real.
I'm pretty sure the way the law is worded is intended to be a compounded offense rather then one you would be arrested for, but it's still an offense and you could be arrested for it. E.G. You get caught downloading real children for which you are arrested. When the cops do a search of you're computer they find you have anime, hentai or manga (of kiddy port sort). The additional images would be used as to extend you're sentence/fine/whatever they decide to do to you, but wouldn't be the real reason you were arrested in the first place.
Kind of like if you hit a pedestrian in a cross walk. You might be arrested for vehicular manslaughter, but they would also tack on failing to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crossing.
I might as well add, I find this disturbing because I am an Anime fan. Recently I watched a series called "Girls Bravo", which was hilarious, but does depict some "Adult" situations, not sex, but it's implied. Then this twin court case came up and I realized, I could be arrested for owning that series, along with half a dozen other series I own including Family Guy.

Why politicians are idiots
The Chronicle Herald has another article on this. In it one of the county councilors (or similar) says that the tower can be avoided by 2 kms of cable, something I find highly unlikely for a number of reasons. This ignores the point of the tower, which is to provide ubiquitous and cheap high bandwidth (I'm talking at least 10Mbps) internet to 99% of the population of Nova Scotia. Around a third of the population lives in the capital area, which along with other urban areas in the province has easy access to high-speed internet. However, nearly half of the provincial population is rural or very rural or extremely rural (like half an hour down a dirt road from just a corner store rural). Now some of these areas have access to digital cable and therefore cable internet (hell, some can even pull a decent DSL connection), and therefore, the towers are not needed. In Victoria Harbour, however, which is 30 km (straight line) from the closest town that could be reasonably classified as urban, is not one of those locations. The cost for Eastlink to ensure that the cable to every house (if it exists in the first place) is capable of carrying the higher bandwidth required for internet would be prohibitive to begin with, not to even mention replacing old and stringing new cable. The tower makes much more economic sense, as the costs associated are stringing one cable (which may already be in place) and erecting the damn thing. This also ignores the fact that many other such towers have been erected in primarily agricultural areas of the province with no ill effect. Some of you may have already eaten blueberries grown not 50 meters from one such tower. Okay, maybe not, but the point still stands. This one farmer doesn't understand the science, let alone the economic benefits to the area, behind the tower. I really hope Industry Canada overrules Kings County Council.

Re:One solution
Problem is... shit like
11 layers of management happensI've heard the statistic that for every 2 employees that actually worked, 3 managers oversaw them.
Bell (Canada) is a great example of a company that embodies fail in basically everything that they do.
