Yes because one of the interesting things about people is that all of their complex multi-dimensional complex points of view, flaws, beliefs, intelligence, past experience . . . this can all be distilled down to produce a point, upon a one dimensional line. And that line has a clearly defined centre point. People will either fall to the left or the right of that polarising centre point. Once there, that's it. You'd better stick with your own kind, because there will never be reconciliation with the other side. If you would like to find out more, please purchase my new book 'Thinking in Polarities', which is a follow-up to my seminal block-buster 'The Right are from Mars, the Left are from Venus'.
Not if the 'work' was work that would actually happen, on computing platforms like Amazon Elastic Cloud, Lambda, Microsoft Azure, Google and so forth. In the past currency was Rum. In the future currency will be CPU clicks.
I'm not sure if there are hard statistics, but this is most often attributed to the increased amount of salt. There are lower incidences of heart disease, diabetes and other ailments, but an increased rate of stomach cancer.
Probiotics are bacteria. Lactobacillus is a type of bacteria. They are gram-positive, facultative anaerobic (meaning they don't need oxygen) or microaerophilic, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria. There are lots of different species of lactobacillus. These are "friendly" bacteria that normally live in our digestive, urinary, and genital systems without causing disease. They also occur in nature, for example on raw, fresh vegetables, or fermented foods like yogurt and in dietary supplements. They are generally harmless, sometimes beneficial to almost everyone.
Perhaps on NPR they were saying the fermented foods have less noxiousbacteria than probiotic preparations. There are other kinds of bacteria, that in a person with a well functioning immune system will be harmless, but could cause problems to someone who is already ill. And then there are things like Clostridium botulinum aka botulism - comes from spoiled canned foods, that you definitely don't want to ingest. It is deadly.
Bacteria are are naturally present in raw fruit and vegetables and naturally fermented foods, including naturally fermented bread. Most cold climate cultures relied on fermented vegetables to get them through the winter. Salt fermentation of raw vegetables allows the lactobacillus bacterias to proliferate. Almost all of the sugars are consumed, however most of the rest of nutritional profile is intact, including the vitamin C. In some cases the nutritional profile is enhanced. This is why viking sailors didn't get scurvy. I used to wonder how these past cultures survived the whole winter without vegetables. They actually didn't.
The amount of bacteria in many fermented foods exceeds probiotics dosages. They might not be very beneficial, but they're probably not very harmful either. They certainly have an effect on the gut biome. In some cases certain strains have been shown to be beneficial, through immune system modulation, for certain conditions, such as in the natural treatment of eczma - there are efforts ongoing to commercialize on this.

WRONG! Regulations can be abused. That doesn't make well regulated capitalism less effective than a free-for-all.
Capitalism works because of trust and contracts between the participants. When things don't work out, what recourse do people have? In well developed economies, there is a well functioning legal system, at the big end of town, and variously named departments like Consumer Affairs to enforce ethical retail standards, at the little end of town.
It is also difficult to factor in the cost of externalities without regulation.
"Study A", referenced in the article notes that only one in six Americans are treated for depression. And here "Study B" observes that one in six Americans already take anti-depressants. Therefore we can conclude that the authors of Study A will be satisfied when 100% of Americans take anti-depressents.
Yet I say that's not going far enough. Something that I learned in college is that if one pill is good, three pills are better, and that American Society will only reach its potential when 300% of its members are taking anti-depressents.

You might be right, but in my experience, I'd say that it will benefit the landlords in lower vacancy rates and the tenants in lower rent. Tends to be the case that the same property with better facilities doesn't significantly increase the resale value - it is advisable not to over-capitalise on rental investments.
Siri then piped up on the COO's iPhone X, surplus model, announcing in her cool and precise diction: "Jeff, don't worry . . . in 2025, Apple will own the consumers too, so your statement remains correct".
The previously only flustered COO now turned bright red, and hurriedly stuffed the iPhone into his pants, before trying to proceed with the interview. "Oh Jeff . . . . ", Siri's muffled voice could be heard to say, "I found 15 billion, 345 million, 625 thousand, 102 advertisements for penis enhancement. Would you like to view them now?"
We view the future as Apple owning your health data, Apple COO Jeff Williams said, followed by "Ah fuck! Consumers! Consumers! How many fucking times did we rehearse this!?". He then stamped his foot, and, visibly flustered, asked if he could do that line again.
There they go calling it intelligence again! For a a specialised application and not a general intelligence at all. Its just so counterfeit, synthetic, manufactured . . . bah! Its artificial, damnit!
Tagalog has been around for a very long time before becoming one of the two official languages of the Philippines after WW2. It was spoken as a first language around Manila, southern Luzon, along the East coast of the mid latitudes of Luzon island and on the island of Mindoro.
When the Spanish arrived in the 1500s, and Manila was still an outpost of the Sultanate of Brunei, it had its own written system called Babayin. Of course the language sounded different then, just as Shakespearean English sounds different to us today. Another fascinating thing about Tagalog is that there are a broad array of accents, especially where it was spoken as a first language, just like English in the United Kingdom, where the accent can vary, even depending on what part of the city of London one hails from.
I think the idea is that most people, even people with severe limitations, want to do something. There is a percentage who will choose long-term to do nothing, however the cost of policing that exceeds the cost of accepting some leakage.

Just did the same. Couldn't see what the problem was and checked the version. (On a Mac).
Doh, I was going to make the first post, mentioning this, however I got distracted.
Yes! Yes!
This is a cultural phenomenon - the virtue signalling of a Champagne Socialist.
I love being a sex slave, you insensitive clod!
Ah, I get you now.

Not that many people though are exposed to daylight at night.

Brilliant. It will be like building a wall between the consumers and a fair and balanced view, and making the consumers pay for it.
