A few ways to help protest

I hope it is done right
If this is done right that would mean if some crazy fool out there
created a third desktop option for *nix it should be able to pick this
one up and use it. As long as the interface is clean we should have no problem.

Remember it is just data
What I don't like about this device is all I would have to do is replicate
the data coming to it. If I bypass the fingerprint sensors and feed previous
data that I acquired then the data would available to me such as password
to web sites credit cards and such. Well I don't know if that is possible,
but you never know

Re:efficiency
It depends I seen lets take your example
You have incresed your speed by 5 seconds
5 sec x 7200 hits = 36000 sec
36000 sec = 600 min
600 min = 10 hr
now lets talk milliseconds
15 ms you made it go 10 ms
5 ms x 7,200,000 hits = 36,000,00 ms
36,000,000 ms = 36,000 sec
36000 sec = 600 min
600 min = 10 hr
If you web site gets alot of hits then
it is worth it else don't bother and waste
the time

The Truth is already out
MPAA has shown with things like the PS2 recall it is all about region control. Ask yourself why should it be illegal to play a movie from another region? If the MPAA can get the Japanise Government to agree to such a stupid thing. Then think about who is really in control of the world Governments. With this LinDVD is really a non product Why should I go spend my money on something that I can get for free??? Remember it is all about who controls what nothing more and nothing less.

Why does Mattel own the code?
Did they write the program?--no
They court says that they own the code because the code was created to decrypt their copyrighted information.
So would this mean the samba code is owned by microsoft because it is used to decrypt their network protocol ????
I don't think so. Mattel is just mad and out for blood.

Car or Roads?
Think of OS and Software as cars and roads as the networks. Now which one is more important the cars that allow us to travel on the roads or the roads that allow our cars to move from one place to another?

This doesn't change a thing
The French government hasn't changed a thing their will be still be free hosting people can access. They might start requiring ISP to block thoses sites to? Then you will see a great uproar. What about web boards are they going to illegal now? What about chat rooms since I don't have personal info on a talker I run in france I will be responsible on what they say? Please this has to stop. Stupity of these governments are getting too much.

Patents can cause more harn than good.
Patents don't allow people to take an idea and run with it. Doesn't allow the freedom to expand a current idea with out price and alot of time the price is way too much for most people. Now as a programmer if must find if every algorithim that I want use is patented that may be a problem but now they are even doing business processes that is wrong. If I create a program that fill a need in my business or employers if that process is patented not the code but the process that is nuts. Well my mini rant is over
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
Why ??
The German Goverment has to think about relationship with it current vendors.
It was premature of releasing that document if they really wanted to go with an OSS
(not only linux) solutions. They should have had a plan laid out before they said a
word or just start replacing things slowly then tell the world. In this world everyone
looks at what you and do and say it all has repercosion.

As a emmebedded device this might make it
You create an emmebedded device with this distro you might have winner maybe as a helper robot that you can call on certain commands or anything else think about some the possibiloties here we are all a creative bunch here lets come up with some ideas here

The Commercial use of this
The obvious military uses of this I wonder if the private sector will get any use of this. This would great for construction, junk yards, security, farming,
..etc. Alot of our everyday technology drickles down from the military. The question is how long will it take for the military to allow the private sector use this technology.

IO
This pure processing power here but the biggest problem is the fact when you have lots of data hardrives are your biggest enemy. We need faster hardrives. When I see the harddrives speeds reach the the level of processor speeds then we will really be cooking

They are losing control
This what they are feared that they will lose control of their regioning of DVDs. Well I guess it doesn't take a long for it to start slipping away without the use of DeCSS. The Saga continues.
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
We will see damage control
Damage control will be a fun thing to watch tommorow let the spin doctors to there stuff
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
The real problem.
The military wants to control their systems where ever they are. That is why they have these problems. Think the general says to to soldier turn left The general see that he is turing right the general will make him turn left. It is designed to take control from the outside so it is possible that can take that control if they want to. It is all about design my friends.

The Tool for the job
I love X. But this would be great for the embedded solutions. The small footprint is ideal for some projects that I would like to start we just have to see about the licensing issues and time.

They Should at least pay you something for it
They should pay you a fair market cost of the domain but since you haven't used for anything what is consider fair is really up in the air.
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
This Should be about fair use
This Case should be about one thing and one only.
The fair use of DVD I am glad that is what is
happening. If someone pirated a DVD they should be
prosecuted but using DeCSS to play a legal copy of
a DVD you have that is something different. All we
want is to use your DVD with the operating system
of our choice.

I hope them the best
I hope caldera the best in this. They helped bring linux to a different market in the beginning so good boys.

Re:Our descendents won't be human.
Yes with advance do you really think 1000 years is a good fugure I would say 300 years because technology tends to speed things up so 1000 years maybe a litle to short

Some would live in a known hell
Some would live in a known hell than an unknown heaven. The Future is just that The Future we don't know what it holds. All we can do is live our lives one day at a time and make sure that we live each day to the fulless that is all we can ask ourself now. If Robots do come along and are our equals or better yet superior beings I don't think would allow that to happen. We should and always but in the proper safety measures if we create such beings which I don't see for another 100 years or so. I can not say today if I will want to live for ever in a robotic body or even a cloned body of myself. The future will be an exciting time regardless of what happens
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
Half hearted effort
This what happens when a company will only support something half heartedly. In order to gain the full support of the linux community you need to supply the code or at least how the Video Card works. Since are not willing to do so, linux users may not even want to bother to buy card now. Well time will only tell.

If some wants to they will create a clone
If some really wants to they will create a clone of this clone. Remember it is not about the software but the value it brings to us if some though this valuable then they would have created an OSS package.

Games is where the future is at
These days just about everyone wants to play games. Games have been a driving force in advances in computer hardward mostly video cards. Just about everyone loves some type of game it doesn't have to be video games. Games are how we all like to unwind. Though out the years society always seem to enjoy events surounding competion. Olympics, Soccer, Gladitators, etc. This is why games are some of the first thing being ported to linux because we all love to play games

The Internet as a New Media
Internet is a new Media for the world to deal with. When a new Media hits the block everyone gets scared they say the guy is going to take us out. Newpapers thought Radio might do that, Radio thought Televison would do that, and now the Internet people are looking at it as a old media killer. Like anything new in this world people have hope of the changes it will bring to all. All the internet is going to do is make things go faster. That is all to me technology has seem to do for us.

It is going to be survial of the fittest
Companies out there are itching and straching to get to the top. Some are going to die. That is all it is really about. Understand some these companies mentioned may go under but others are not. In the years to come the internet companies that add value to our life are the ones that are going to stay.

Talk about a sense of humor
He this a very interesting twist in this Saga. These australians are great now we wait and see what the MPAA is going to do about it. I don't think the Austrailians would be very happy about Americans messing with austrailian affairs. If you want to help out the go to there site and make a donation or go here and you can also help out

This Goverment knows the value of OSS
The German Goverment "Gets It" the use of open source helps in keeping certain cost down. Allows you to add extentions to the software you use. Also allows you to audit the software you are using at the source so there are no question about certain things.

Remember Knowlegde is Power
If any of read you Machiavelli the goverment and comapnies wants to control what you read, listen to, and who speak to. This is very important for control. Individuals now can access information that they never had a chance to access before. The world leaders are getting scared and they want to make sure they control your life remember alot people have a FBI file. I pretty sure I do. Being a first generation american they would want to keep track of me. But remember it is and always has been who has the knowledge that will be in control.

Politicians Listens to those who vote
I know this I done work them. I was given a voter file for a county and ask to find the people who vote the most out of particular elections such as 2 of 4. Guess what; The people who vote the most are older people so if you really wnat a voice you need to show the politicians you vote

This effects who can get information
They read Machiavelli these companies are trying to control there users source of information. We have all seen this where companies went ahead and made sure the press or the customers never seen a certain document that can ruin their name. This is nothing new.

This Break alot of barriers now
Now the corel offically is releasing WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux this going to open a new arena for Linux companies now. Hopefully corel will be smart and allow it to run on any linux distribution I hate to do reinstall just to install something else. This will help keep linux foot in the door as a desktop replacement for companies and even for people at home now you sell linux computers to people who have limited needs for thier computers with no fear of them having problems finding a Good office software packages they need. This is not the last we will see of this kind of thing. This will be fun to see how this plays out

Read The article
the article even states that forking will happen
but it will never last for long.
Humpty Dumpty IS PUT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN
<snip>
In 1997, the use of libraries, which provide the
functionality underlying much of the OS, forked
into "glibc" and "libc" versions, used by
different development groups, with other
developers watching and commenting on the hazard.
The two separate efforts eventually were merged
back together into one set of libraries.
"This is the exception that proves the rule. The
merge of these projects back together again
leaves us without a lasting example (of
forking)," Red Hat's Young said.
</snip>
But one thing does bother me is that they kept on
stating if Linus can keep all from falling apart
That should not even be questioned!! He has kept
it all running for this long and he is going to
kept it going untill he moves on to a new project
for himself. Linux survial does not depend on
Linus but it would be ashame if he left it but he
does not have to be there to keep it going. The
only thing that we need a good leader for the
devolopment of it. Alan Cox would be the next in
line

Some people don't get it
Open Source is the only true way to make sure you software is totally secure because if it is not you can fix it. Now it is true that you can find more backdoor if you have the source in front of you but there are people out there who can read assembly as if it was a their native tongue. So in even close source software they someone can figure out if the software is insecure. Well that is my say on this thing.

Give new meaning
This gives a new meaning "A mind is a terrible thing to waste" Seriously think about it. I work for a company if I leave they will have a lot of problems. Not to say they couldn't get thier jobs done, but will they have a lot of work ahead of them. It is hard for the other guys to figure out the things I do. I feel bad about this but with out the proper training invested in thier people this problem will never be solved. I seen this happen in many different companies. With focus on technology these days it is going to happen time and time agian.
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
They might pull this on off
From what I heard about microsoft they don't like to rewrite certain things that is why Windows of alphas sucks This might give them a chance to have a processor that will help not have to write most of thier code I could by wrong but you never know
http://theotherside.com/dvd/ -
Like anything else it will evolve
As Stated before apple got some ideas from Xerox , microsoft from apple, gnome from microsoft each product itself is different and evolved in their own kind of beast. The ideas came from more or less the same place. Now it is up to use the users to help Gnome evolve into a greater beast one that can do things like no one else can do we are getting there but we stil have a long ay to go. But remember it took microsoft years to come up with the "LOOK AND FEEL OF WINDOWS". So we need to be willing to take our time with this and learn from the ones who went ahead of us (microsoft and apple) and be willing to risk on what we do.
