Re:Preference vs. STRONG preference

Is this the best that you can do?HUNDREDS of people attended rallies in Australian capital cities yesterday to voice their opposition to the Rudd Government's planned internet filtering scheme. In Sydney a crowd of up to 300 mostly young and tech-savvy protestors gathered at Town Hall to hear guest speakers including bloggers and musicians criticise the web filtering scheme Digital Liberty Coalition protests against web filter held across Australia
.
A crowd of several hundred gathered at Stirling Gardens in Perth today to rally against the Australian Government's plans for mandatory censorship of the Internet. A Facebook page titled, Perth Australians against Internet Censorship, Say No to Mandatory Internet Filtering states that the Australian government was 'quietly going ahead with plans to filter all Australian's access to the internet in a manner similar to the People's Republic of China and Iran.' Protestors rally against internet censorship
A rally to protest against the Federal Government's plans to filter the internet is underway in Brisbane. About 200 people are at Brisbane Square in the CBD for the rally which is part of a national day of protest. They say the Government's proposals are internet censorship and will make the net slower. Brisbane protesters rally against web filter plans
I've seen bigger crowds line up to drop coins in the kettle for the Salvation Army.

And This Story suggests the original article is also full of it.

Performance fees for dance music in Australian nightclubs are changing from $0.07/patron to $1.05/patron, a 1500% increase!

Re:Oh for the love of.....
Your data on SUV sales is utterly incorrect. The data (with links):
Ford SUV sales lead to loss: "7/21/2006 - Ford Motor Co. reported an unexpected quarterly loss Thursday as sales of sport-utility vehicles plunged amid rising gasoline prices. The loss threatened Chief Executive Officer William Clay Ford Jr.'s plan to revive the No. 2 U.S. automaker."
Chrysler has slower truck and SUV sales: "9/18/2006 - DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group said at the weekend it could lose about $US1.27 billion this year, a much deeper loss than it forecast in July because of mounting inventory and slower truck and SUV sales."
German premium car makers hit by slump in SUV sales: "9/13/2006 - Germany's premium car makers are feeling the pinch as consumers in the United States, the world's biggest car market, are turning their backs on fuel-guzzling SUVs."
Chrysler slashes production of trucks, SUVs: "9/19/2006 - In the meantime, the company plans to significantly scale back on truck and SUV output due to a decline in sales of such vehicles. Trucks and SUVs, which historically represent about three-quarters of Chrysler's volume and return generous profits, have been under pressure in the U.S. due to high gasoline prices, [DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter] Zetsche said." -
Re:Why not pictures?
The local newspaper (The West Australian, http://www.thewest.com.au/ did, as I remember, print a picture on Saturday 3/June. I thought it looked cool, but you have to pay to see the online version (which sucks!). The West is a fairly dismal paper (IMHO) and its online presence is appalling (which may not be such a bad thing...)

Whose ass is grass?
At the point where these cells are useful they are less human than the living cells in a blade of grass. Or do you feel there are moral issues to consider when debating mowing your lawn?
My goodness, it'd be hard for you to be wronger! (-:
The cells at that point are totally human and nearly undifferentiated, which is quite a different thing to being grass cells or whatever. What you're promulgating is exactly the same lie as the "it's only a fish... it's only a reptile..." bullshit which was common a decade or two ago.
There is no such thing as a baby in the womb.
Yeah? So what is it that our local maternity hospital almost routinely rescues halfway to term? A ball of grass? A mystery mass of foetal cells? At what point does a baby stop being that mythical lump of cells and start being a baby? It's certainly not at term. And if babies can survive at 20 weeks prem, how about 21?
I have a nephew who was waaaay prem, and aside from the fact that his sister was nearly the same size as him while they grew up ("are they twins?"), you'd never know. He's a normal adult now, the same as you or I.
Get an education - you don't need to be a conservative or a religious bigot to see a fact when one whacks you across the face, and the real-life observation here is that the only difference between a baby in utero and one in Daddy's arms is that the second one is breathing and the first is on a lifeline. -
Great newsHere's the relevant text of the story in case it gets slashdotted:
Fleshing out its warning of a loss, the company blamed the result on the failure of a $10 million deal to sell its controlling stake in South African contractor BTX, losses on underground contracts in Queensland and WA, lower than expected sales of its RockTek rock-breaking products and the impact of zinc miner Western Metals' slide into receivership.
I know that South African mining is followed closely by the Slashdot readership. I am sure the failure to sell the stake in BTX affects us all deeply. -
It was in today's newspaper
I read about the ruling this morning in 'The West Australian' (newspaper).

Worse than that
Here, they rejected one customer applying through iiNet, a smaller ISP, claiming line quality was insufficient. The customer applied again through Telstra's own ISP, and was accepted. His ADSL service worked perfectly.
He complained to the Telecommunications Ombudsman publicised this, and shortly afterwards received an offer from Telstra to refund his connection fee, provide discounted service & upgrade his link too. He accepted, and also publicised Telstra's offer, causing more controversy. Telstra's explanation for the original problem was that "line test quality tests varied according to the weather".
Shortly after that, he was notified by Telstra that his service was to be disconnected, as he was "too far from the exchange". His ADSL service was still working perfectly, but apparently he shouldn't have been connected at all, regardless of the line quality...

yeah the crooked cops are cuntz
We here in Perth, Western Australia live in the most corrupt society in the western world. The filthbag crooked cops (cuntz) who have been running this state for the past century have never been in fear of being caught.
Just look at our news for today:-
A filthbag pig cunt was known to be crooked for over 20 years but was left to perpetrate his crimes - resulting in the death of a protected witness (Andrew Petrelis who was testifying against John Kizon and Michael Rippingale. for drug conspiracy.)
Then we have the dipshitfukk in charge of prisons caught for spending taxpayer dollars on strippers, hookers and booze.
We live in a state controlled by the mafia. These cuntz suck bigtime. I am presently developing a number of extermination protocols.
So now we have a Royal Commission going on they are starting to catch these cuntz.
A murderer named Craig Christian was busted yesterday for possession of two illegal weapons, silencer, and half a kilo of amphetamine. (and other charges) The best part is he will lose his black Mercedes' and multiple businesses/properties because of our new drug confiscation laws.
Craig Christian is a murderer and thought he was protected because he is best mates with John Kizon - SUCK SHIT CUNT HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH HA HA HAAH -
