I too have an AOL address. I inherited it when AOL absorbed my Netscape account.
If anyone is filtering job applications based on email address, I'm not sure I want to work for them - they sound lazy.
Not so. Nematodes are used because they have a very fast life cycle and you can study multiple generations. Perfect for mitochondrial studies such as this and mitochondria are pretty much mitochondria no matter the species.
The summary is bad because its a c&p of TOA summary which seems to be just a pulp piece on various ageing research topics. That's not what the original paper was about. The original paper in Nature was kinda cool in itself. Simple summary - Nematodes lasted 70% longer when fed a ton of ÃZ±-KG. Some new areas to be studied, but nothing much to see here.
Actually he was not if you RTA. He was exploiting zone mechanics to deliberately annoy other players.
He wasn't fighting villains as the game designers intended... the real problem here is the game's moderators allowed the behavior because they could not prevent it without breaking the game. They could however protect him from all those mean nasty taunts and threats.
This kind of behavior is not news. Other MMORPGs have had similar issues. Everquest had the "Bard charm-the-dragon to kill the other dragon (or players)" exploits. World of Warcraft had the "lead the dragon to X major city to kill all the players" exploits. City of Heroes was never originally designed to allow Heros to fight other players as Villains. It was the addition of the PvP after City of Villains was released (2006?) that introduced the "exploit" mentioned.
All three examples above came as a result of the game designers releasing expansions with changes that had unforeseen consequences.
This so called "gaming professor" could have researched his paper entirely by reading other older games forums. Just like hunting whales provides very little new scientific insight - this guy didn't have to grief a server to get his name in lights. I would even go as far as to suggest the paper was entirely secondary.
It's great for the primary cancer tumour, but there is no indication though if it will help the patient long term. Normally when the tumour becomes inoperable it's already metastasized - in case of prostate cancer, into the bones.
Not quite correct. Previously Qantas used Singapore, China and the Philippines. Now it uses Malaysia to service most of it's aircraft.
This practice is pretty common in major airlines, so if you fly Malaysian Airlines, Lufthansa or United, you are probably getting the same level of risk.
Most incidents take place on landing or takeoff. Green lasers also being notoriously good at remaining focused enough for the several hundred meters needed to completely blind a pilot at night.
They also fail to mention that casual dress is a direct result of evolution in IT.
Nylon ties and polyester shirts back the the 80s were the leading cause of geeks earthing open monitors and catching fire. Autoerotic asphixiation involving CPU fans may have also played a role.
As for Firely, I tried it and didn't like it. Too many characters, characters I didn't care about, a romance-less romance between a bandit and a hooker (why the hell didn't he just buy her, she's a prostitute?)
Evidently you didnt try any of the episodes that fleshed out the various characterisations. Watch "Heart of Gold" for this one.
First off MMORPGS are basicly MUDS and they as a genre have been around longer than FPS games by a long, LONG while. You can also generalise that they share the same philosphy on death penalties that modern MMORPGS do. Your counter argument itself doesnt hold up.
Nethack is a great example as so many people have pointed out of a RPG style game with a hideous death penalty. But it's got a loyal following thats not based on community.
While WoW is a great game, the people that will play it wont be choosing to do so soley because of it's death penalty. If anything it's relaxed death penalty model will encourage the bad player to keep on playing and making life hell for everyone else.
And with the addition of temporary powers and accolades it is possible for your character to have "equipment" of a sort. Mmmm I love my Crey CB9X pistol.
From the article they are estimating the total mass of leaked (presumed radioactive) NaK coolant from various RORSATS as over 360 pounds (165 kilograms). The mass of the reactors is obviously going to be more.
Ahh the GT-R. Very popular among the street racers near where I live - Forget 600hp. The real enthusiasts push some serious grunt with these. (In excess of 1000hp) Skylines downunder

You are comparing the pilot/first series of a show that started in 1994/5 with one that started 8 or 9 years later. Of course the special effects and acting have moved on.
Go rent or buy the mid arc episodes of B5. Season 3 onwards and make the comparison again. By season 4, B5 was every bit as good as Farscape given the respective budgets and that it's plot was tied to a fixed 5 year arc.
Yep and the upgrade to Opera 7 fixed a good 95% of the compatibility issues Opera 6 had with IE designed sites (particularly those trying to use java). It's the only internet related software I'de consider paying for at this time.
That article was rather badly written with the apparent intent of making the facts look worse than they really are.
"The Gallup International survey, released today, found 68 per cent of Australians backed military action against Iraq, with 56 per cent in favour only if the United Nations supported it."
"In Australia, levels of support for war outstripped even the US, where the poll showed 67 per cent supported military action."
Wooo 1% more than the US. Thats really statistically significant that is. Pillocks.

Reads more as a marketing pitch for an IT startup than a research article abstract.
Unless the world got really fscked up since I was last at uni.

And This Story suggests the original article is also full of it.

Yes, there have been numerous examples of this happening: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/04/11/2214689.htm

She's there. Stop the trailer at the point where you see several actors on the bridge. She's in at least two shots.
The plants growing on Wash's console though are concerning....
