Re:Star Wars Sucks!
Just a taste of why it was a future fiction story and not a science fiction story: http://trekmovie.com/2009/05/0...

Re:handheld rifle
Just in case the Space Patrol thinks this is Star Trek.
Given the visual style similarities, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Design wise, it's like it's 1960s all over again!

Facts
Given that TFA provided sucks, I took the liberty of looking for another one. Here's the straight dope:
- CBS is starting from scratch using the original film negatives, and editing the episodes together precisely as they were when they originally aired between 1987 and 1994.
- Visual effects will not be upconverted from videotape, but instead will be recompositioned from the film elements available.
- The freshly cut film will be transferred to high definition with 7.1 DTS Master Audio.
- Work is being done in conjunction with Denise and Michael Okuda, who are on board as consultants.
- Aspect ratio for Blu-ray release is the original aspect ratio as it aired on televsion – 1.33:1 (4:3)Additionally, see TNG Remastered Process & FAQ

Re:Just Lame
It was a fucking lame video.
Then you'd hate this Leonard Nimoy video (thanks for the link go to Captain Splendid, who posted it in a journal a few days ago). I thought it and the kid's video were both funny. But at 59 I guess I'm too damned old to grow up, and Nimoy's WAY too old to grow up.

So will they sue some Trek fans?
Because there's some Trek fans who had designed a fanon Maquis Seal Team 6 logo that (inadvertently) appeared on German TV before Disney got their grubby rat paws on anything related.

Re:Is it just me...
Well you know George Takei did star in an episode of Disney Channel's Suite Life on Deck kids show...

My copy of the Anarchist Cookbook...
I took a copy of the older Anarchist Cookbook to PAX, shortly after the airing of Leverage in which Wil Wheaton played the hacker Chaos.... and asked him to sign it as such. He thought for a moment, then handed this back. Too meta?

Re:Old news is old
You're just jealous you didn't send it into Slashdot...
;-)But to my surprise, CNN.com had the story, where the British Daily Mail (dailymail.co.uk) website didn't have any mention of it when I sent this in last night.
At that point it was reasonable to assume this was still 'breaking news' and worthy of reporting to this community.
As the list of New years honours is only officially published today (31st December), none of the British media ever bother to try and get a 'scoop' on it as otherwise it shows that the person awarded it leaked the fact. I found out about this a few days ago: http://trekmovie.com/2009/12/18/patrick-stewart-to-be-knighted/ it seems he or his agent leaked it to paramount, and the Americans published it. The British media like to speculate, but tend not to break the trust of the recipients or the government. One of the few instances left where they wait for the official report rather than the inevitably leaked trails.

Re:What Critics?
I wouldn't worry about it. It has beat studio and industry expectations.

Global Opening Weekend of $112M
It appears the film has also taken $112M for global opening weekend, which makes it very likely it'll turn a profit.

Re:Good, but
They used Cal State Northridge's Oviatt Library in some academy scenes (though obviously the water and the golden gate bridge aren't there in real life ^_^).
I mention this because I had my dick sucked in that library. The isolated study booths on the third floor are a good place for that, provided you tape a newspaper over the window. You can thank me later :) -
Re:It's not so bad...
I imagine this scene would cause a few problems for the software, too.

Re:Which Enterprise?
What, This one?
-
Re:Continuity "problems"
They're not following canon at all, they're re-booting the series.
Except that the official line is that they are NOT rebooting the series. Which is rather two-faced when you think about it. On one hand you're telling the fans that you're not rebooting the series (at a time when fans are probably most receptive to a reboot) then you go and reboot it anyway.
With PR management like that, is it any wonder that fans are upset?

Re:Spock
Also, why the hell did they release this picture?
http://img.trekmovie.com/images/st09/aicnkirkspock.jpg
I seriously thought that Sylar had broken onto the enterprise, and the new movie would be some sort of heroes mashup.
