    The Twitter blog entry cited says that they are prevented from revealing the number of NSL & FISA orders received even if that number is zero. The text of the lawsuit explains that under the terms of the settlement in January between the government and Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft and Yahoo! (laid down in what the lawsuit calls the Deputy Attorney General's letter (PDF), companies are allowed to give either the numbers of NSL & FISA orders received and accounts affected but only in bands of 1000, of which the first is 0-999, or the total number of orders received in bands of 250, starting with 0-249. Is that what killed Apple's warrant canary?

    Twitter want to publish more specific numbers, including zero. They say that "The DAG Letter cites to no authority for these restrictions on service providers’ speech" and argue that anyway the settlement doesn't apply to them.

    A previous blog entry says Twitter want "to provide that information in much smaller ranges that will be ... more in line with the relatively small number of non-national security information requests we receive." According to Twitter's last transparency report, there were 1257 information requests from law enforcement in the US, covering 1918 accounts. Does this suggest that Twitter receive about the same number of NSL & FISA orders?

    Price was supposedly the highest-weighted factor for this particular contract, so they aren't entirely unjustified in their complaint. However, NASA also has good justification for their decision: there's quite a bit of uncertainty with the DreamChaser. For instance, they apparently haven't settled on something as basic as a propulsion system. There's talk of them replacing the hybrids with ORBITEC's Vortex engines, but at a recent presentation they appeared to still be undecided (https://twitter.com/jeff_foust/status/517341940073787392). That's somewhat of a significant shortcoming.

    The revisionism within the Bitcoin community about Mt. Gox is astounding. The truth is that the Bitcoin "establishment", as it was, was generally pro-Mt. Gox, and indeed some parts of the system continued to promote Mt. Gox long after the company went insolvent. . Probably the most notorious example was Blockchain.info (Archive.org has a gap of archives between December and July before anyone comments, but the fact I was able to make this tweet should confirm this image was current back in March.)

    The scale of the Mt. Gox disaster was a failure of the system, of the consensus driven establishment that set up and supported Bitcoins. By both refusing to accept the need for some form of regulatory environment, voluntary or by legislative fiat, and the deliberate herding of newcomers to that company, the system showed itself to have major flaws.

    Moreover though, it showed flaws that the community is unwilling to address, preferring instead to either use sophistry - from arguments that Bitcoin is independent of the environment it trades in, to the pretense that you can't trust US banks to manage your dollars because banks in Sierra Leone that trade in dollars aren't regulated - or just plain pretending what happened didn't happen, the "Oh, I knew Mt. Gox was going to be a problem six months before it went bust* and nobody was recommending it and everyone's always said keep your money in your own wallet and..." argument.

    BTW, that asterisk next to the word bust? Funny thing: people really do make that argument, but Mt. Gox, while not bankrupt six months before it went bankrupt (well, duh), had by that point made it hard for people to take money out of their accounts. Most of Mt. Gox's victims are likely people who were customers before anyone "noticed something was wrong". But Blockchain.info was recommending them anyway.

    Yes, some libertarians laughed at those who stored money at Mt. Gox. They did it after it became too late to do anything about it. There's always a group of self-described libertarians who laugh at victims of business failures. I've never understood why.

The reason people keep trying to drag Zoe into this is so they can prop her up as a straw victim for their false narrative even while they guys are the ones getting black men fired from their jobs, screaming racial slurs at people, and sending rape/death threats to people's families. Also this isn't a matter of accusations, Zoe admitted to HIM that everything was true and he posted about her being a manipulative gaslighting domestic abuser. Kotaku has already been forced to revise their ethics policy over this.

    People are acting as if Wesley Wolfe (Wolvereness) is trying to claim ownership of Minecraft server code. I don't know him, but that is not his intent from what I've seen. It is simply to have his code removed from a project with a clear conflict of interest over licensing. From what I have seen, it has been a case of: 'remove my code from the project OR opensource the Minecraft server code'.

    The fact that this brings to light that Bukkit is no longer eligible to use its codebase because it's in violation of its own license is just a bonus.

    Unfortunately Spigot is suffering from a side-effect of this claim. It was built off the Bukkit source code, so if Wolvereness were to leave his code in that project, without a DMCA claim, it would dilute his legal position against Mojang.

    Here are the facts as I see them:
    1. Bukkit is an open source project, licensed under the GPL.
    2. Many developers, including Wolfe, contribute code to the project under the GPL terms. The developers retain copyright over their contributions.
    3. The Minecraft server was reverse engineered (apparently in violation of Minecraft's EULA) and the resulting decompiled/de-obfuscated code initially included in the CraftBukkit project.
    4. Projects like Bukkit, Forge and Spigot add considerable value to Minecraft, but are not (initially) controlled by Mojang.
    5. Mojang surreptitiously acquires the Bukkit project by hiring a number of the project's key developers. While the hiring of the developers is made public, the acquisition of the project is not.
    6. The developers Mojang hire work on Bukkit-Minecraft "intergration". Bukkit features get added to Minecraft's server, and proprietary Minecraft server code gets incorporated into Bukkit/CraftBukkit.
    7. Community developers continue to contribute to Bukkit, under the GPL, thinking they are working for an independent project.
    8. Bukkit/CraftBukkit is distributed during this time, under the (L)GPL, including the proprietary code. This is a violation of the (L)GPL.
    9. Mojang changes EULA to prevent 'pay to win' servers, and asserts Bukkit is subject to that EULA too.
    10. The majority of developers vote to discontinue the project. Mojang steps in publicly to say that they can't do that and they have owned the project for two years.
    11. Mojang asserts control over the entire project, including contributions from community.
    12. Wolvereness DMCAs the project, for the removal of his code.
    13. Mojang claim they added no code to the project, yet the project had been distributed for two years including Minecraft server code while the project was supposedly in Mojang's ownership. Mojang have been aware of licensing issues since 2011, but have done nothing to remove their proprietary code from a GPLed project in the time since they acquired it. Licensing of the project has not changed.

    It seems that there are only four possibilities: Mojang kills Bukkit and walks away; Mojang rewrites Bukkit to remove/rewrite code from outside contributors and closes source; Mojang caves and opensources Minecraft server code; Mojang takes Wolfe to court to determine outcome (which could take years of appeals).

Despite Jane's claim, Jane didn't calculate net radiative power output. Jane actually just calculated the radiative power out from the heated plate. The net radiative power output which determines the necessary electricity is "power out - power in" so Jane's missing the same half of the equation that all Sky Dragon Slayers miss.

    ... It is dirt simple to show you are wrong. ... all we have to do is plug your value for radiative power output back into the known, canonical equation for radiative temperature. Temperature is the 4th root of ( (power in W/m^2) / (se) ). So using your calculated value: 4th root of ( (29.399) / ((6.24 * 10^-9 W/m^2) / K^4) ) = 4th root of 3749839743.59 = 247.46K = -14.24 degrees F. However, we already know what this temperature is, because it's a given:: 150 deg F (338.7K). ... [Jane Q. Public, 2014-09-05]

    Jane plugged my net radiative power transfer into an equation describing only "power out". A nonsensical answer is expected, but Jane should also check his arithmetic: "4th root of ( (29.399) / ((6.24 * 10^-9 W/m^2) / K^4) ) = 4th root of 3749839743.59".

    Instead, I got "4th root of 4711378205.13 = 261.99K = +11.91 degrees F."

    I noticed Jane's arithmetic error because his more fundamental mistake is completely ignoring the power radiated in from the chamber walls, and reflections from those aluminum walls. So Jane's "dirt simple" calculation is only valid for blackbody chamber walls at 0K (-459.7F), rather than the 255.4K (0F) aluminum walls in this experiment.

    Of course, that would only be possible after an infinite number of steps. But I calculated something similar out of whimsy last month: "Fully exposing the plate to the cosmic microwave background radiation cools it to 13F (263K), which is lower than before because the CMBR is a blackbody and aluminum chamber walls aren't."

    Because Jane is unintentionally treating the chamber walls as a 0K blackbody, my +13F CMBR prediction shouldn't have been much warmer than Jane's -14F prediction. The comparatively tiny 2.7K CMBR temperature didn't seem like it could cause my CMBR prediction to be ~27F warmer than Jane's 0K prediction. And it didn't. After Jane's arithmetic was corrected, my CMBR prediction is only ~1F warmer than Jane's 0K prediction.

    But those whimsical scenarios are different from the actual experiment with aluminum chamber walls at 255.4K (0F).

And the answer is that it isn't because a man or a woman are allowed to do all that, and still should be treated as a gentleman or a lady - with respect and admiration and friendliness.

    Mark my words - if tomorrow one of the great living men or women who are well-known (celebs, e.g: actors, film makers, bloggers/writers/authors, scientists, singers, YouTube personas, even models and reality T.V. show contestants), or alterantively people I personally know, like my siblings, or cousins, and which I admire, and draw a lot of inspiration from, turned out to do all that - I would not think any less of them, because it's ultimately their body and their life.

    I feel a lot for the poor people whose privacy was violated. I wouldn't want people to publish my private email messages or instant messaging utterance or IRC, either. For example, after Miranda Kerr got separated from her husband (= actor Orlando Bloom), she's been boasting in interviews about all the "great sex" she's been getting from various willing men, and all this is without being negatively labelled as a "slut" or "bimbo" which is what would happen a few years ago. Furthermore, there are now many openly homosexual men and women and celebs, while they were persecuted some decades ago.
