It takes a human to create the level of lucrative hype that 'Paris-based art collective Obvious' have managed to come up with. Back in the day, Slashdot would have covered the more interesting story behind the Christie's auction, which you can read here:

'Obvious' just seem to have grabbed source from an Open Source project, generated a few images, cranked the hype up to 11, and made a killing. The community this comes out of, and especially the programmer who implemented the algorithm, aren't terribly impressed:

No it doesn't. It only talks about compression artifacts and having fewer frames. While that may give the appearance of movement being faster, there's no evidence it was deliberately sped up, and that wasn't the point of the video.

Then you clowns turn it into a "doctored" video conspiracy theory instead of acknowledging what the story was really about: CNN lying and Acosta being a douche that refused to give up the mic after asking several questions and having them answered, including using his arm to block the young intern from retaking the mic. He only gives up the mic after Trump looks like he's signaling to security to haul his ass out of there. It's the White House Press Conference, not the "Jim Acosta Show".

There are plenty of bots that are not fake accounts, include in their name or description that they're a bot, do not disrupt any conversations, do not mislead users. That's explicitly allowed. Misleading reporting like this may end up getting those accounts reported too.

True. I've somehow gained the attention of a trivia bot that responds to most of my Tweets with a trivia question based on a keyword in what I've stated. Weird, but harmless.

A while back I tried posting an image with a hidden steganographic message in it to Twitter and to my surprise the hidden message was preserved and not lost due to recompression. Also, the recent Banksy-style shreded image I posted to climagic that was basically a corrupted jpg file was preserved pretty well. In other words the corrupted part looks identical to what I see with the original on my own computer. However posting it to Mastodon.social resulted in a reprocessed image with compression artifacts

Anything that affects merit is factored into a (well run) meritocracy and that includes human factors. You've set up a false dichotomy and you're on the war-path for no reason. There are plenty of places striving and failing at being meritocratic, but I don't think that's enough reason to simply give up on rewarding people who do a good job.

It's essentially illegal to be a muslim in some places. Speaking of which, women can now drive in Saudi Arabia, that's a big win, but they still can't walk around a hijab. Or more importantly get jobs or an education and segregation is still a big thing. Russia is pretty much an open kleptocracy. When looking at all that.... you really thought that LINUX was "the last bastion of assholes"? You've earned your troll mod.

You need to get out more and observe the world rather than attacking one of the best examples of a meritocracy that humanity has to offer.
