Re:Further Down the Rabbit Hole
get yourself a copy of Gnaural or SBAGen and play around with the different programs. i frequently drift off to sleep with one running in my ears, and have noticed i seem to sleep fewer hours and feel more refreshed. also good for naps and creative boosts.
oh, and *slow-clap* to the gp. well done, sir.

Check out Binaural Beats
It's similar to neurofeedback in that it can train your mind to stay in certain states, for example Beta, high alertness. SBaGen at http://www.uazu.net/sbagen is a good GPL cross-platform program. Just be sure to use headphones, and make sure the soundcard has stereo sound, turn off channel mixing or other special effects.

Binaural Beats software for Linux
Anyone interested in Binaural Beats should check out SBaGen, the Binaural Beat Brain Wave Experimenter's Lab, available for Linux, Mac and Windows.
All this talk of dreaming reminds me of a very cool film called Waking Life which all Slashdotters should see. It's a fantastic philosophical journey into the world of dreams and consciousness. The main character wanders around meeting professors and strangers who discuss the nature of being asleep and lucid dreaming. The action is all filmed and then re-animated in an amazing technique called Rotoscoping.

SBaGen
Similar to AutoZen is SBaGen, which lets you build scripts to be played over time. For Linux, Windows, and OSX.

Well...
I for one am hoping this case either ends in a positive settlement for the lawfirms involved, akin to the way Charley Pride's label caved in over his CD when a California woman sued them for deceptive trade practices and other goodies.
I run FatChucks.com and get a ton of e-mail over the Corrupt CDs issue every week. It would be nice if this case makes my site obsolete because big, fat warnings would have to appear on the CDs themselves (rather than Joe Public having to know about my site).
Last, the warnings you see on corrupt CDs are so far *not adequate.* They need to warn the potential buyer of the following:
1. Will not play on your computer.
2. Will not play on your DVD player, Discman, CD-Duplicator (like the kind put out by Sony, Harmon-Kardon, Pioneer, etc), high-end stereo CD player, car CD player, game console (PS, PS2, XBox, etc) or MP3-CD player.
3. Using this CD in any of the devices above may damage that equipment.
To see this in action, check out this image for the Rosa CD in Europe:
The Image
In Spanish, it translates to this:
"This disc is equipped with a device to prevent digital copying, which could impede the playback of the recording in personal computers and/or harm such devices, in videogame consoles, in automobile CD and DVD players and multi-changers, as well as other CD-ROM and DVD-ROM players."
The record labels probably have a legal right to corrupt their CDs, but they need to *fully* warn consumers about what they are buying.
Peace,

UK Campaign for Digital Rights
We will be protesting outside major record stores throughout the UK this Saturday against these new 'copy-protected' cds.
Details of the protest can be found here, including the leaflet we will be handing out.
The cities targeted so far are Edinburgh, Birmingham, Brighton, Cambridge, Glasgow, London, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Rugby.
btw the probable reason for not releasing copy-protected cds in the UK, is that we have some of the strongest consumer protection laws in the world, including the Trading Standards Authority and the Advertising Standards Agency. -
UK Campaign for Digital Rights
In the UK a group of people have formed the Campaing for Digital Rights (CDR
;), and our web site can be found at http://uk.eurorights.org/
At the moment we are campainging for three things: Consumer Digital Rights, with regard to use-restricted cd's, to free Dmitry Sklyarov and to prevent dumb laws like the EUCD (Europes version of the DMCA) from being passed.
We have held a couple of protests outside the US embassy, to ask for Dmitry to be released, the first of which had a ten minute report on NewsNight, the BBC news review program.
On October the 6th we are going to start our leafletting campaign to raise awareness of the new brain-damaged cd's being released. A copy of the leaflet can be downloaded from http://uazu.net/cd/index.html
Any people looking to take part in the campaign, should join the (now incorrectly named) Free Dmitry UK mailing list, which can be found at http://mailman.xenoclast.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listi nfo/free-sklyarov-uk
