Re:Lets avoid all fair and unbalanced material
Yeah, well you could be right about that My Little Pony stuff (NSFW)... I'd wager some "unbalanced minds" might well be "triggered" by that one...

Re:I'm all for it!
Oh wow, how could they ever do a prequel?
...flash forward 10 years *MY EYES BLEED*
What I want to see? Hrm, more of the stargate tech available publicly, at least some of the medical, the rapid construction and the transportation tech. Making the world smaller requires the ability to transport people and goods much faster and much cheaper but we need better and wider medical care to cure regional diseases fast.
Time travel stuff is so beat to death by bad writing that it's now not possible to overcome it. I have however read some novels that are fun, just nothing Ive seen for the screen is really much good but then how many times *can* you do a Connecticut Yankee in King Aurthur's Court?
This warped continuum might work http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Louis-LeClerc/X file.jpg
Will..E..Um...Shatterer..is...god, just ask him. Hell just watch that prequel of the show he made famous, compared to that captain he *is* god. -
Re:"Furry" lobster?
The fact that I instantly thought of a picture near your description means that I have seen entirely too much furry pr0n.
(NOT SAFE FOR WORK! DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU WANT TO GOUGE YOUR EYES OUT AFTERWARDS!)
I know I've seen other experimental works (i.e., having non-mammalian, non-avian, non-reptilian subjects), and let me tell you, the ones with insects are worse. :) -

OOo is good, but not without its faults.

I wish my parents had restricted my computer use.
I had a computer in my room; my parents thought I used it too much, so they kept my keyboard for all but one hour of the day. This was based on the mistaken notion that my box wouldn't be bootable without a keyboard. With on-screen keyboard available, all this really did was make access more irritating.
They had the right idea, though. A bigger problem than what content the kids are viewing is how long they're spending online. Kids should have real-life experience with people thier own age, the Internet is notorious for replacing that with far less fulfilling interaction.
But obviously, content can still be a problem. Censorware doesn't work, a better idea is to have some kind of log set up so that you can see what your children are viewing. They will be reluctant to look at porn if they know you will find out about it.
Remember there are also a lot of weird, cult-like groups on the Internet. Talk to your kid if he's reading anything to do with "otherkin," "multiples," or any other group that claims to be metaphysically different from the general population. I would rather have my children into drugs than otherkin...seriously. This is the kind of thing that teenagers often grow out of, but sometimes they don't and turn into useless fat narcissists instead.
It's a cliche, but even if your kids protest the rules now, they will be thankful for it later. I personally wish my parents had paid attention to what I was doing on the Internet. I wouldn't be hooked on furry porn now, and and I wouldn't have gotten into all the stupid script kiddie shit I find so embarassing today. -

Re:Only 200,000? )
20M? That's cool
:)
My site is the VCL, a community anthro-artwork site. It's a totally private run site... no big company paying for the gear, etc. -
This is a GOOD ideaMy own site, VCL, which contains material that could be objectionable to some, I have rated with ICRA tags with no objections whatsoever.
I want to give people the choice over what they want to see. It's all very well saying that we should not allow the government to censor free expression, but its another thing altogether to ram content down people's throats.
A self-regulated system, if people use it properly, is an excellent idea. I don't even mind being required to put ICRA tags in by law, if it goes that way. This way, I can deliver the content I want without restriction, and viewers get to choose if they want to see it or not, and parent get to choose if their kids should see it or not. No losers.
However, there's one danger. If sites use, or forced to use ICRA tags, then it makes it more attractive for governments to force users and/or ISPs to forcably block sites that display certain tags. Have a look at Australia: I'm sure they'd love for all these off-shore (eg, USA) sites to put in ICRA tags... it'll make the Censor's job that much easier.
