Leisure Suit Larry
I learnt everthing I know about ladies on Leisure Suit Larry.
Which is why on valentines night I am 42, alone and posting on Slashdot in my underwear.

I thought we could download this a long time ago?
Hasn't Roger Wilco been available for download for a long time?

Re:Better yet, what would a SIM do if left in char
In Sims 2, you can have your Sims play Sims 1.
This reminds me of Space Quest III where you could make Roger Wilco go to an arcade machine and play the complete Space Quest I game. -
When Videogames Publishers Go 'Street'
My money goes towards other interests than gaming.
I mean come on... Does anyone really think that all the little "nigga" wannabe's are anything other than mass marketed MTV drones?
If everyone that 'talks the talk" also 'walked the walk', than 2/3 of the population would be in prison, or dead. It's a bunch of huff and puff 99% of the time, and it pisses of parents who grew up with Motley Crue and Poison doing the talking for them, so it's inherently the "in" thing.
The only real problem with it is the number of kids it introduces to the concept of "money is for buying bitches, and guns is for talkin" (there, I paraphrased the entire genre for you! Happy? 8).
So while I understand why game manufacturers are going for this target demographic, I don't know if it's neccesarily something I feel is a good thing.
You have to remember that until this generation of parents decide to start being parents, this is the kinda drek which is raising their kids while they're out trying to relive their childhoods themselves.
Personally, I'd rather role play Leisure Suit Larry type characters than Snoop Dogg anyday. There's just something more fun about playing a smarmy cartoon character, and letting my imagination fill in some of the blanks, than playing a life like copy of a real life black pimp.
One's role-playing, and the other's just envy over an impossibility. -
Re:Other Famous Version Number Skips
Nothing like Al Lowe and Sierra skipping Leisure Suit Larry version 4 (LSL4).

Re:Old Games on AppleThe first Sierra game I played was Hi-Res Adventure #1: Mystery House. That was on an old Apple ][ back around 1980. The graphics were so primitive by today's standards, but naturally back then you didn't even notice.
I remember there being a slightly corrupted sector on my disk back then that caused one of the images to be drawn incorrectly. If you didn't know about the game before, it basically was non-filling hi-res graphics. In other words:
hplot 10,10 to 10,20
hplot 10,20 to 20,20
hplot 20,20 to 20,10
hplot 20,10 to 10,10
...would draw a box. Now with the speed of those games, you SAW it draw this box. So, one of the sectors containing the image data had a bad bit or two, and as a result, it started drawing a person, but then shot off completely askew. Interesting. -
I cannot believe...how little attention this thread has been getting! Sierra games basically sum up my adolescente computer game playing. I remember being stuck with an Atari ST with a mono monitor (640x400 resolution baby) and Sierra and Lucasarts games were the only ones playable on the machine without needing to occupy the family TV. Anyhow, I remember playing Police Quest, yes, Leisure Suit Larry, Hero's Quest, the ultra-funny Space Quests and, of course, the epitome of frustration that was King's Quest IV. I still remember that stupid scene where you had to tiptoe on a whale's tongue....
Even though everyone remembers them for the "Quest" series, the memory of playing the two Manhunter games. Truly a testament to excellence. Manhunter and Loom were two of the most original games of the 80s, and I cannot help but think of the Manhunter people doing Loom 2...
Ah, I guess I'm getting old...

Re:Girl Gamers Unite (at my house)
That would be Laura Bow 2 - The Dagger of Amon Ra, 1992 (IIRC). INFO
I've got it, it came as part of The Roberta Williams Anthology (Hey! A female developer!).
There was also another one - AGI (Adventure Game Interpreter)-based. The Colonel's Bequest - Some info...
I've always found adventure-style games fun, dunno why, maybe because I was brought up with them.
