Re: Is it because all the homeless
It takes two to tango: the father is just as culpable here. They chose to have kids as well. But when they skip out, they leave the baby with the mom, since we have the expectation, often enforced by the court system, that the mother raises a child, not the father.
I have to disagree. In poor societies in the US, it is a badge of honor to spread your seed as far and wide as possible. Also, as a side benefit of spreading your seed, you will be exposed to more women with whom you can procreate. Unfortunately for us, the act of procreation requires little in the way of thought. Also unfortunately, it's enjoyable. And finally - thanks to the fairy tale stories told by Hollywood - women get an incorrect belief that once they have sex with the man, he'll be unable to look at anyone else the same way. Or that they can 'change' him for the better (stop selling drugs, stop hitting, stop cutting classes, stop flirting, or whatever). Best advice I can give to women is don't enter into verbal contracts where you might be screwed.
From the man's point of view ... he just wants what the other person has, and he's willing to engage in whatever verbal contract needed to get it. Promises mean nothing because he has to have that . In his mind, is it really stealing when it is being given away for free? Of course not! This is how you have individuals that have fathered many children. Four in one year in this other case. It appears the guy that made world headlines as a deadbeat dad is not a nice manany more.
Too bad there's not a license for procreation. -
Re:So then leave 'em high and dry
All 3 points also apply to regular news services.
I suspect that like the piracy argument, your argument is based on the false assumption that if news aggregators didn't exist, these people would got their news from "better" services and be better informed. It's more likely that if these people weren't getting their news from Google News or Facebook, they wouldn't be getting any news at all. i.e. The problem isn't the aggregator, the problem is some people just don't actively seek out news.
I hit several news sites daily (including ones I dislike but feel I should browse just so I'm getting a complete picture). I also go through Google News in case there's something these "major" news sites are omitting, on the theory that a computerized algorithm will have less bias than a human editor at selecting which stories are important.
That's how I learned about 2 people dying and 57 people being hospitalized due to drug overdoses at a Florida music concert on June 1, 2016. That was the same day there was a murder-suicide at UCLA which was all over the national news and even preempted regular broadcasts in Southern California for live news coverage. The drug story barely made it out of local news even though it had just as many deaths and far more injuries. Because most of the news organizations are biased against guns, to them a negative story about guns was more important than a bigger negative story about drugs. In this case, Google News was superior to the regular national news outlets. -
Re:This stuff needs to END - whats wrong with ppl?
Chart of odds of dying to back this up (2017 publication).
1 in 95 - Suicide
1 in 96 - Poisoning / overdoes (this is the new big one, courtesy of the opioid epidemic, but the press has mostly ignored it).*
1 in 114 - Motor vehicle crash
1 in 127 - Fall
1 in 370 - Assault by firearm
1 in 645 - Car occupant
1 in 647 - Pedestrian incident (mostly hit by cars)
1 in 948 - Motorcycle rider incident
Do note that these are overall odds of dying for the country as a whole. Not everyone participates in all of these activities so your individual risk may be higher. For example, the motorcyclist death rate for the country as a whole is 1 in 948. But there are approximately 30x as many cars as motorcycles, suggesting only about 1 in 30 people rides a motorcycle. So the fatality rate for an individual motorcyclist is probably closer to 1 in 32. (Yes, about 1 in every 100 people you know who rides in a car is fated to die in a car accident. About 1 in every 30 people you know who rides a motorcycle is fated to die in a motorcycle accident.)
* You remember that shooting at UCLA last year which resulted in 2 dead (murder/suicide)? That made national headlines with all the major networks carrying live coverage, because the press loves stories about gun violence. The exact same day a drug overdose incident at a concert in Florida killed 2 and hospitalized 57. But that story barely made it out of local news.
And just for completeness, there were 225 people killed by terrorists from 2001 (post-9/11) to 2016, or 15 per year. With a population of 323 million and an average lifespan of 79 years, that works out to a chance of dying of:
1 in 161,856 - Lightning strike
1 in 272,574 - Terrorism -

Browns Ferry Unit 1
I have supported the restarting of Browns Ferry Unit 1 for a long time. Because despite the issues nuclear power is an immediatly available and fairly clean power source. Browns Ferry Unit 1 has had a bumpy road to travel since it was commissioned, and then shut down, and then restarted. Since its restart it has contributed clean energy at a time when the Tennessee Valley has been hammered by record high temperatures.record rainfall deficits that have severely curtailed hydroelectric production and made for conditions calling for record power demand levels.
One occurance that also recently occured at Browns Ferry was the automatic shutdown of the reactor due to a coolant leak. TVA reported to the NRC that an unknown amount of reactor cooling water had indeed leaked and they spent last weekend repairing it. After restart the high water temps forced this shutdown. In fact this is nothing new though. We had the Sequoyah reactor using its cooling towers last year due to elevated water temps.
But yeah its been hot for sure. Also of interest is it looks like we are going to get the newest reactor in the US and that it be at Watts Bar. Unit 1 has been online there since 1996, and produces enough juice for 250,000 homes. Unit 2 at Watts Bar was roughly 80% complete when construction stopped. TVA is currently and exploring finishing the construction of Unit 2 giving us yet another clean power source. In September 2000 Watts Bar Unit 1 set a record for continuous operation of TVA reactors of similar design. -
Pharmacists and Generics and Profit

From the mouth of a pharmacist:
"...at least 30 percent (profit) on a generic medication as opposed to eight or nine percent on a brand name"
"65 to 70 percent of his inventory is made up of generic drugs" -

Results not typical.
Voids are prohibited
No purchase where necessary.
Amazing.

Pentagon document lists homosexuality as mental disorder
http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=5051746
Quoting from SJ "Murky: (Mercury for those of you not in the know...) News:
"There were 726 military members discharged under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy during the budget year that ended last Sept. 30. That marked the first year since 2001 that the total had increased. The number of discharges had declined each year since it peaked at 1,227 in 2001, and had fallen to 653 in 2004."
So much for a free, enlightened nation...
Risking eyeballs to replace or extend flyboys to drop bombs on people, but cannot fix the fucked up morality issues that imperil this country.

Sure and they get charged...
We aren't talking about rape here - this is statutory rape, which just means the girls was underage. If it was just the boy who was underage, nobody would have been charged.
Unless, of course, you're Pamela Rogers... I'm sure there have been other cases. But you're right in that men have a societal barrier to claiming rape charges against a woman. Much like how earlier rulings stated that women who were dressed provocatively "were asking for it," it's assumed that men are always "asking for it" and therefore cannot be forced to have sexual congress.
