Re:Thanks Google!
If you think that Flash is dead or about to die then maybe you need to have a look around...
...for example the websites that won each category in the webby awards (announced yesterday http://www.webbyawards.com/webbys/current.php) are almost all made entirely in flash. The same goes for the peoples award for each category. For anyone in the real world it looks very much like Flash is going from strength to strength, both in terms of what it is capable of and usage.

Re:HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray - does either offer more?
Fair comment and you may well be right. But if you want to see some more positive examples of interactivity blending with film/video, check out the nominees in the Webbys "best use of video/moving image" category...

Tiffany Shlain, founder and chairperson of The Webby Awards "was invited to serve on
This article was a lousy troll. Shlain is a stooge. See above. Now go away and think of something useful to post instead of crap like this article. ... the advisory board for Al Gore's cable channel". -
Maps24.com...
This looks very much like maps24.com... their application was java-based, and this appears to be browser-based / scripted.
Maps24.com won a Webby in 2004.
The click and drag for map movement rocks. -
Re:CBC - state run? yeah right
Personally I think we should cut all their funding since they run advertisements just like any other station
The CBC suffers from two sided criticism; if they don't air commercials, or big Hollywood programming they get criticized for looking unprofessional and being irrelevant. If they DO air commercials and big Hollywood progamming then they get criticized for using up public tax dollars for what private media could accomplish more easily.
They can't win.
What a lot of people don't realize is that not only does the CBC play a valuable role within Canada (as all good public broadcasters should), but they actually usually provide programming and use methods that are miles ahead of private media.
a good example of this, is the radio "station" http://www.cbcradio3.com/, which displays mostly Canadian, independent, underground music, art, photography, writing, and other wonderful things, all well picking up a few Webby Awards http://www.webbyawards.com/ along the way. -
This is the best?I surfed over to webbyawards and sampled each site briefly. Honest-to-God, if this is the award winning best of the 'net then the 'net is in bad shape indeed.
Happy Trails!

Re:Webby Awards appear meaningless
We give out this awards, and explain nothing, nothing at all. Geez, that's useful.
The Judging page explains that the votes of around 480 members are used to decide the Webbys. You couldn't possibly give an explanation for the winning site that was representative of each member who voted for it. You'll note that explanations for the winners don't get given at the Academy Awards for much the same reason.A small judging panel would be more suited to giving some sort of explanation as to why the winners won.

MetaBaby
MetaBaby has the same thing: pages which are modifiable or creatable by just about anyone.
It was nominated for a Webby Award last year for best personal site. Slashdot was nominated (and won People's Choice) for Community. -
Webby Awards Suck =(Excessive lobbying: The road to a webby award. Because Slashdot users have nothing better to do, it's destined to win a Webby. Does it deserve it?
The only good category is the Services category where Epinions and Kozmo fight it out for the most revolutionary sites on the web this year.
Does slashdot deserve a webby? Is it revolutionary in design or concept? I don't think so! Personally, I wrote-in a vote for PayYoBillz in the Communities category! =) It may not deserve it, but do any of the others? Maybe some write-ins for Usenet will have it win. ^_^
