Re:Bolo and Tron. Bolotron?

BoloSimple gameplay. Intense multiplayer once you understand the rules.

Bolo?I know this is slightly off topic, but I'm wondering what happened to my favorite indie game of all time: Bolo. What ever happened to it?
There was a clone called Winbolo that some guy wrote, but it doesn't work properly in linux and doesn't seem to be under development. If only there were an open source version of it, we could revive it.
It's amazing how long this little game has endured, largely due to the balance of its arcade and strategic bits. It's also proof that a lot can be done with some 4 -bit graphics and lo-fi sound.

Re:Well at least he has a good point.
Or you could play WinBolo if you don't have a Mac. http://www.winbolo.com/ / http://www.winbolo.net/

Re:What about Bolo?now THAT is a game that needs to be ported to osx.
...although maybe it would be easier to port the linux clone than the original. too bad the linux version is only available as an executable. if only it were open source. it's gameplay is also a litte rough compaired to the original's. you can still open all your old map files though.
i wish stuart cheshire had not stopped development on the game. it has always been a blast to play. -megli

Automatic Bolo server finder?
Methinks this is just a technology to allow Bolo players to find games without any configuration changes being required.
Bolo and WinBolo rock!

Slightly OT: WinBolo and LinBolo
Stuart, the author of the addictive Mac tank game Bolo, granted permission several years ago for Windows and Linux versions of the popular game. By the time these were released, Mac Bolo was already out of development and they never really took off in popularity, but they are still developed and available.
The Linux client uses SDL, the Windows client may, too.
Get them here

Re:BOLO ROCKED!!Agreed!
I mentioned this on another thread, but check out winbolo. It's a pretty damn good imitation for Linux/Windows, and a reasonably active userbase. But more would be better, esp. if enough registered to give the new developer (John Morrison) some dough

Re:bolo !I don't know if you've looked at Lin/Winbolo, but it's breathed some life into a great game...
The new version are a little buggier and don't play quite as well as MacBolo, but larger games play much better. Check out the website.
Happy boloing!

Re:Bolo... networked Mac tank gameThere is now a dedicated Linux server for Bolo, called LinBolo, and a Linux client is promised.
This is from the same guy who created the Windows client for Bolo, WinBolo

Re:BoloBolo is still going strong and has grown beyond its Macintosh origins
It has since been totally re-written for Windows by an Australian fan. With permission of the original author he uses the original graphics (which if you know your history originated on a BBC Micro)
I used to play Bolo forever on my Mac now I can do the same with Winbolo
There also is a dedicated Linux server version and the Linux client is supposed to be any day soon (but that was Feb 02
;)Cheers VikingBrad
