Banks have an aging IT team working mainly on administrative tasks.

That is totally not an excuse. Banks have some of the biggest profit margins of any industry. If there's any industry which can afford to hire top-notch IT staff, it's banks.

Officers of the company (i.e. insiders) would naturally want to exercise their options at the highest price possible. Increasing dividends makes the stock appear more attractive to institutional investors.

When institutions buy, that increases the pressure for the price to go up (retail investors don't move a market cap like this, only the big boys do). When the price per share goes up then that's more money that the officers can collect when they exercise their free options; in this case it looks like all the strikes were no higher than around $100. Or they simply sell some of their common position into the open market. The higher the stock price, the higher the profit. Tax strategies play a huge part too.

I agree we shouldn't live in fear, but we need to keep our eyes open. As parents you have to have concern for your kids given the amount of incidents that happen, some are anecdotal like "drug bust near school" others hit home.

Every 9-year-old kid who plays basketball outside in winter can tell the NFL that temperature affects air pressure. Whether this is the sole factor at work here, is another question.

There's a lot of ignorance about the incident and about India here. I don't know whether they are legally liable in the US, but their conduct is questionable. I am utterly amazed how they have avoided harsh criticism in the twittery world of people looking desperately for something to be outraged about.

They hired a driver with a long criminal record based on a forged police certificate. http://timesofindia.indiatimes...? No way in hell does an unverified piece of paper count as a comprehensive background check in India, and you would damn well know that before making claims like the ones above. Especially when you specifically claim to provide a safe option for women.

Their GPS tracking works via the drivers phone and the customers phone with the app installed. It's worthless, anyone who wants to circumvent it can.

They came to a country where women desperately need a safe mode of transport, made explicit claims about providing a safe service for women, and were utterly callous and negligent and deceptive.

As I said, I don't know about legal liability, but please find out more before making 'cars don't rape people, people do' posts.

All the sources I have quoted are newspapers with very decent standards of journalism. Don't go by the page 3 stuff on their sites - major Indian newspapers often have tabloid page 3 crap comparable to the worst tabloids, but their journalistic standards while far from impeccable are way better than say Fox News.

Those margins are not anything close to that stated in the original post. Microsoft is primarily a software comapny and has margins in line for that industry.

You are confusing the margins on the devices that Blackberry sells with the fact that they sell far to little to make a profit. Apple has those high margins because they sell so many. As for Microsoft, they sure as hell sell hardware, but either at low or negative margins.

As to Samsung, their margins are actually at the upper end of recent years.

As to Apple and software sales, what is the margin on Final Cut Pro (and think what it was when it cost more than $299) Logic Pro X @ 199? But in the end, those do not matter as without iPhone Apple is at best a third or fourth place computer maker with marketshare in the 5 to 10% range (historically).

Yeah, they've only outgrown the rest of the PC market for almost all quarters during the last couple of years. Total failure.
