The video is misleading because it has been deliberately altered to be misleading and hide the facts below the poor resolution and compression artifacts.
The area has street lights and is well illuminated as shown by other videos. You can
see for yourself in the photos of the news reports with the Uber car still the at location and the bicycle on the sidewalk below a f-ing streetlight! leaves it pretty clear that the gamma and brightness of the video has been deliberately altered to hide the darker areas.Driving at night where Autonomous Uber hit Pedestrian at night

Had I been driving that car, full alert, I would have killed that chick. I'd have felt bad, even knowing it was her fault. But the fact is, this dumbass walked in front of a fast moving car, at night, when she had no illumination, and the car had headlights. Her best hope of survival was a 100% functioning self driving car, anything less and she's dead.
The released video is very misleading. While the deceased made a stupid decision to cross at that point, it was quite well lit.
No one with even average vision or reflexes would have hit her. -

I personally use C++ with ctags -- I will clarify that in a moment.
When even a C++ committee member admits that they write in a sub-set of C++ you know the languages is b-l-o-a-t-e-d.

Java is an even crappier language. I wrote some CRC32 in version 7 2 years ago -- it was one of the worst programming experiences I've ever had.

* The compiler was brain dead -- it was unable to cast an int to a boolean and short-circuit an IF clause
* Let me know when there is a way to make the GC _100% deterministic_ AND give it a _hard_ millisecond deadline, or even disable the dam thing. Ignoring memory management doesn't magically make it go away.
* The extra/long/verbose/path/to/my/source is crap,

Tech was new though, sure tech is better today but then the tech was new, nothing like it what so ever, that made it interesting. The thing I missed the most, is what would it have been like growing up with developing tech, rather than already being a young adult already in the work force. Then again many today will miss out on killing things, hunting and fishing, in real life, preparing, cooking and eating what you killed, this versus the virtual version of it. The early day of shareware were also interesting, as was the sneaker net and of course real life lan parties, visiting people with you puter to play networked games. Social media also enhanced your life, rather than trying to dominate it. Governments were not hacking electronic voting systems especially not USA, now USA number one election hacker including it's own. Autotune did not exist what a piece of trash software https://www.youtube.com/user/R... (just because I can hear it and hate it). Computer graphics promised so much for movies and then wham instead of making them better turned them into shite. Animation got a lot better.
What do I miss most of all, like duh, being thirty fucking years younger.

If you are smart enough to grasp simple physics if very easy to know it’s possible. A car can stop in 40 meters when going 100 kph. 35 mph is roughly half that of 100kph.
x = v0*t - 1/2*a*t^2
dx/dt = 0 = v0 - a*t. -> time to stop -> t = v0/a
Time to stop is cut in half when the initial speed is cut is half. Then the distance stop is
x = v0^2/a - 1/2*a*v0^2/a^2 = v0^2/a - 1/2*v0^2/a = v0^2/(2*a)
Distance to stop is cut down to a quarter when the initial velocity is cut in half. So a car that can stop in 40m while doing 100km per hour will only require 10m while doing 50. So just about 2 car lengths.
So can see that if you cut your initial speed in half, time to stop is cut in half.

First of all, no one seeks to "arm everyone" — as in "hand out weapons to everyone like Universal Basic Income". Simply allow people to carry, what they procure (or already own) themselves. Second, real "bad guys" (pro criminals) are already armed — regardless of whether it is legal or not — just witness Chicago, where guns are so illegal, a museum had to remove a historical rifle from the exposition, but people are shot regularly anyway.
Third, in many situations the bad guys aren't actually armed — because weapon-ownership requires some level of planning and forethought. Rioting mob is dangerous even when not armed — but an armed defender can put an end to the outrage even without actually shooting anyone.
And lastly, even when all are armed, the defending party has an advantage against assailants. A homeowner, for example, defending his house against 5 bandits has a chance, if he is armed — even if they are as well. He has no chance without a weapon, even when the attackers have none either.

Yes, a thousand times moreI remember convincing my parents to drive me downtown and drop me off at the civic center where a computer convention was being held. I saw for the first time, a color picture of a city street layout that was being panned down the screen. There were like 32 colors on the screen at one time!
Up until this point, I had to suffer with b&w on my friend's TRS-80. I guess that was 36 years ago, still things were revolutionary up until about 2000. Everything since has been copies and copies of copies. No TV -> 40x40 black and white @ 16fps is a much bigger jump than 300x500->8k retina resolution in 3D at 120Hz.
I guess to answer the question more correctly, 30 years ago being 1988, the high tech nerdy stuff was OS/2, windows 2 and MINIX, the roton, and the DC-x. Now we have spaceX doing this, but the first time is always the best. GPS is about the last truely innovative technology that I can recall

See here. It's identity politics, regular politics and racism. Not sure about prostitution but it wouldn't surprise me. A huge part of our legal system is about voter disenfranchisement. e.g. Nailing poor people with a conviction that strips voting rights.
Right wing ideas don't really survive on their own. Supply side economics, Military Industrial complex, lax environmental regulations and worker protections. None of these are high enough in the polls to make it. But our two party system means if you combine a bit of voter suppression, gerrymandering and the impact of our Senate & Electoral College you can get unpopular policies through despite the polls.
This is why Congress has a 13% approval rating but incumbents. It's also why the Dems have won not just the popular vote for POTUS but even gotten more votes for the House and somehow managed to have fewer representatives. All these shenanigans add up to us barely being a democracy... -
