The government, no matter how "big" it gets, has but one problem, lack of oversight by the voters. You have seen a giant mass of starlings turn on a dime, there is no reason people can't do that with mere thought. Every two years we can vote out the entire House with only a desire. But the brain appears to be made of molasses, so, here we are.

Actually, the majority are sympathetic to many things ISIS believes.
The Myth of Moderate Muslims

83 percent of Palestinian Muslims, 62 percent of Jordanians and 61 percent of Egyptians approve of jihadist attacks on Americans. World Public Opinion Poll (2009).
1.5 Million British Muslims support the Islamic State, about half their total population. ICM (Mirror) Poll 2015.
Two-thirds of Palestinians support the stabbing of Israeli civilians. Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (2015).
38.6 percent of Western Muslims believe 9/11 attacks were justified. Gallup (2011).
45 percent of British Muslims agree that clerics preaching violence against the West represent “mainstream Islam.” BBC Radio (2015).
38 percent of Muslim-Americans say Islamic State (ISIS) beliefs are Islamic or correct. (Forty-three percent disagree.) The Polling Company CSP Poll (2015).
One-third of British Muslim students support killing for Islam. Center for Social Cohesion (Wikileaks cable).
78 percent of British Muslims support punishing the publishers of Muhammad cartoons. NOP Research.
80 percent of young Dutch Muslims see nothing wrong with holy war against non-believers. Most verbalized support for pro-Islamic State fighters. Motivaction Survey (2014).
Nearly one-third of Muslim-Americans agree that violence against those who insult Muhammad or the Quran is acceptable. The Polling Company CSP Poll (2015).
68 percent of British Muslims support the arrest and prosecution of anyone who insults Islam. NOP Research.
51 percent of Muslim-Americans say that Muslims should have the choice of being judged by Shariah courts rather than courts of the United States (only 39 percent disagree). The Polling Company CSP Poll (2015).
81 percent of Muslim respondents support the Islamic State (ISIS). Al-Jazeera poll (2015).
"Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster and the moderate Muslim: Even as we hear of the occasional sighting, most reasonable people remain skeptical as to whether, in reality, these mysterious creatures even exist."
Can you imagine if Christians has similar views of violence towards things it's philosophy doesn't like? Like Abortion? Abortion clinics would have military detachments guarding them 24/7 and abortion clinic bombings would be a daily event in the US, and have the support of a significant portion of the population, rather than the once a decade or so event that they are by people acting alone with no support network to hide and protect them. -
Re: Makes perfect sense..
Sorry, reading the passages in context doesn't help the Koran.
The passages go from peaceful, when Mohammad had no political power, to violent as he gains more and more political power. This is painfully obvious when you read the Suras in chronological order. "A Simple Koran" available on Amazon does this. His biggest body count was when he had 800 people killed in one afternoon, according to MUSLIM sources. (Jesus, by contrast, never kills anyone or calls his followers to kill anyone.)
Of course you are also correct in that the Koran is largely incomprehensible without commentaries. Commentaries written HUNDREDS of years after Mohammad. Heck, even Mohammad's biography isn't written for over two centuries after his death.
What is actually funny is that while Christianity has weathered 300 years of textual and archaeological criticism stringer than ever, the secular history it records having been effectively verified by many who started out to discredit it, Islam is failing those same tests miserably. Much of the Koran, we now know, is copied and edited from 2nd and 3rd century Jewish and Christian apocrypha (non-cannon) writings. What is written of Jesus in the Koran is lifted from 3rd/4th gnostic writings. The story of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba is the most blatant example of copying, but there is plenty more.
Even if you ignore the copying, you have no early manuscripts that agree with the Koran today and Muslim tradition itself mentions that there were competing versions of the Koran until Uthman, who then ordered all competing copies destroyed except the version he had made. The earliest copies we have show significant editing and don't match todays text. The earliest manuscript, the Sana'a manuscript, the Yemenis government won't let anyone examine anymore. All we have is microfilms of it from the Germans who first examined it. So we have something delivered by a "prophet" who did no miracles except the "miracle" of the Koran itself... which was such a "miracle" it had many early variants that took political bludgeoning by a non-prophet to attempt to whittle down to one variant.
It gets worse when you go to archaeology. Turns out Mecca's history doesn't go back further than the 4th century AD. To add to that, Mecca doesn't match the geography of the Koran and the traditions. (Anyone see any Olive trees in Mecca?) The icing on the cake is that mosques for the first HUNDRED YEARS of Islam don't point towards Mecca, but Petra. Petra also matches the geography in the Koran and the traditions. If Muslim history has been so heavily edited that the story of Mecca and the location of the Kaaba isn't reliable, how much of the rest of the Koran and Islamic scriptures can we trust?
An Historical Critique of Islam's Beginnings
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
That video is just one of many that could be posted on the subject.
Contrast this with the Christian texts. Unlike the Koran, the documents that make up the bible are not considered the literal "Word of God". While Christians call it the "Word of God" for convenience, it is more accurately described as "The History of the Word of God". It is the message it contains that is important, not the fact that we have the exact wording of every document 100% correct. (Textual criticism has the New Testament down to 99.6% accuracy, with no variants affecting essential doctrines.)
Jesus, has FOUR biographies written about him within 70 years of his death, two by eyewitnesses and two from people who were in close association with eyewitnesses, on top of Jesus being mentioned by several non-Christian sources. The church was a persecuted organisation for nearly 300 years after its founding. It had no authority to wipe out competing variants en-mass until around the year 800 at the earliest. In modern days, what this means is that we have thousands of complete or partial texts from the times the church had no or extremely limited p -

Re:Blackhole mystisim
Indeed. Why doesn't Hawkin or his sycophants think about why the stars that quickly orbit the "super massive black hole" at the center of our galaxy do not display any "gravitational lensing". Hint: The electromotive force exists in space, and black holes are not required to explain such rotations about the galactic nexus.
Furthermore, astronomers and theoretical physicists alike love to ignore that light obeys simple optical properties in space, as it does here on land. For instance, diffraction (bending) due to light passing through a denser medium of (cold dark hydrogen) gas than the surrounding space will cause light to bend. So, light passing near an out-gassing galaxy would bend and blue-shift without the influence of gravity. And indeed, all "Einstein Rings" which are claimed to be caused by "gravitational lensing" are blue-shifted even though gravity is not supposed to cause any such color shifting.
Finally, it has been repeatedly observed that at least some red-shift is not caused by a difference in distance of the objects. This means the universe may not be expanding! This means the Big Bang may not be a viable explanation! If you point such observations out, you get drummed out of the field of astronomy. Astronomy is full of Zealots, and they are hindering science by wasting the very limited time that great minds like Hawkin have by censoring opposing evidence and refusing to question everything (as science requires).
Most astronomers to this day refuse to even examine the evidence for an electrically active stellar medium, and thus their assumed electrically neutral universe fails to factor in electro magnetism (which is far stronger than gravity).
TL;DR: Hawking has yet to disprove the Null Hypothesis, and Hawking Radiation has never been detected. There is contrary evidence to explain both the bending of light in space and galactic expansion. This means the Theory of Relativity and the Big Bang Theory may both be bogus, along with the "black holes", "dark energy", and "dark matter" that those theories predict and require.

Look, I'm not going to try to change people. I just expect them to acknowledge the problem. How they deal with it is their choice. I kinda figure that once they are aware, the change will happen almost automatically.

Re:Hardly surprising
Correct. TFA is making the assumption that the test limits are never supposed to be exceeded, which is a questionable assumption. The EU test is radically unlike typical driving, which unless the EU states otherwise suggests the correct interpretation is that normal operating emissions are supposed to be x times more than test emissions. TFA presents nothing new. It's been widely known within the industry for years that EU testing conditions generated less emissions than normal operation.
This ambiguity was also present in the U.S. tests. After the truck diesel scandal around 1998-2000, the EPA firmly established that the test limits are not supposed to be exceeded during normal operation, and the test was merely sampling certain operating conditions to make sure the vehicles were in compliance. The EPA test however is more representative of typical driving. -
Re:AI could with by cheating with insane micro
It's definitely keyboard, not mostly mouse. I think APM of 300 is more normal, but peaks of 500 happen. But APM includes things like "spamming" hotkeys, where you hotkey your buildings to say keys 4, 5, 6 and flick through them to check whether they're done building/training, and clicking like crazy before a unit can train yet (to make sure it starts ASAP). Example of Flash playing SC2.
There's another thing called EPM, which is Effective actions Per Minute. That eliminates most of the spammy kind of things (there's also where you right-click spam with the mouse on the ground many times to order a unit to go to basically one place but you're sort of perfecting the position, for example).

Re:So long as it is PUBLIC posts... meh...
The problem is that school security, and the police, can interrogate students under coercion.
Not legally.
Students in a situation like that don't have a right to a lawyer
Yes they do. They also have a right to demand that their parents be present during questioning.
The problem here is not the rights, but knowledge of those rights. If you have teenage kids, you need to teach them their legal rights. Have them watch the Do Not Talk to the Police video. If you kid is questioned by the police, they should be trained to say exactly four words:
1. I
2. Want
3. My
4. ParentsOnce they say those four words, the police are legally obligated to stop questioning them until their parents are present.

What about the links in the original post way back up the thread? You see a comment in any of them? Don't hold out on me, man! Share with us all! The only difference is that they are from the front page news story that was deleted along with the comments. Journal behavior is apparently different. Within The Year
Starcraft is not as calculation heavy as a game of chess, it is more of a test of human efficiency using a mouse and keyboard than anything else. Understanding that, a computer can do infinitely more commands per second than a human could ever do, so most traditional understanding of strategy would be thrown out the window.
Hopefully this demonstrates why a computer would simply trounce any human without even real AI. Strategies could simply be pre-scripted and unstoppable.

The real problem is middle management. People like you used to be called back from the front lines and put in command positions. Now we placed have an "HR ceiling" in place which stratifies the businesses. Management is now only for those who have a degree in "diversity" and "interpersonality", and other corporate "niceties". HR, must be in place because of you must comply with the Social Justice anti-meritocracy called Affirmative Action, or be sued -- which is why HR is chock full of SJWs to enforce the stratisfication and dehumanization of the business entity. Once businesses were families and working for a good business became a life long career. Now the paths to life long employment have been severed, and this was done on purpose. In truth, communists have once again successfully brought yet another divide and conquer strategy to bear on American business through "Social Justice". If that sounds crazy you just don't know the history of Political Correctness.
So, now rather than give the best worker the job of managing others and eventually steering the path of the business we have all manner of strata, each level being out of touch with the others, and enforced anti-social impersonal attitudes "it's nothing personal". Re:Not really relevant...
Not in a world Morgan creates.
He already beams people at FTL speeds across the galaxy because something-something money.
I.e. Detaches them from the world they live in - which is the same thing as waking up in the future, with new rules and a new world. His "umm... rich make it so... yeah..." rule is also retarded cause his world is one where there is literally no motivation to be rich.
Hell... he handwaves that most people just don't bother with transfers into a new body after a few lives because... something.Ignoring completely that when you live in a hard-drive inside a fleshy body all that flesh is just meat - which is really tricky to do when so much of that world revolves around those hard drives.
I.e. You don't die when flesh dies. You go to sleep. He ignores that when it suits him - thus everyone in that world is stupid.
He even has people living in virtual worlds... yet he fails to make the connection that by shifting a human life into a hard-drive (which is nearly indestructible compared to a regular human body) he has created a world where material wealth is pointless.
Hard drive doesn't care about food, warmth, clothes, looks, cars, homes, tracts of land... expensive.
It's all just empty bottles to a skeleton.
Expensive becomes just a memory of a word. And few bodies down the line it even has no idea of family.
Live a thousand years through couple a dozen bodies and your grandpa may end up being your grandson. And you're his mother and his sister... and his aunt neighbor roommate boss acquaintance. And then he even creates an even bigger "life eternal" deus ex machina in the third book... which is completely unnecessary for anything but his white knight complex.
And I'm not talking about the conclusion of the trilogy where the main character finds hope in the DeM to save the one he couldn't save (from her own stupidity of marrying into a fundamentalist religious cult) - something a functional immortal in that position could do anyway by investing a few decades into it.
I'm talking about the main character getting to fuck (and save) Jesus Che Guevara MacLenin von Yeats of that universe. WHAT A TWIST!Besides that, you can't have something be both ubiquitous AND so expensive nearly no one can afford it (yet everyone can).
Economy of scale kills expensive. Interest and inflation (both necessary for a functional economy) kills expensive. Technology (which just gets dropped by Alien Space Bats) kills expensive.
Had his magical tech been reliant on some extremely rare AND LIMITED IN QUANTITY magical resource which can't be synthesized... maybe.
But then that story can't have entire populations of body jumping individuals.Or had he given his villains actual motivation other than space cash. Problem is he'd have to write them as human beings then.
And while he CAN make himself to accept that religious fundamentalists are humans too... after he has his own private genocide of them (but they've deserved it first) - he can't make his rich villains evil for anything more than being rich.
His "living forever is evil because it denies people paradise" religious kooks are still human, but his "oligarchy" is evil because... something-something money power. But if you really wanna taste of just how stupid and retarded he is about economy, geopolitics, humans and everything else - pick up Market Forces.
It's hilarious.
Executives of a Baddy McEvil company which finances wars and literal hostile takeovers of countries fight amongst themselves in their James Bond cars while every character (particularly the main one) does increasingly stupider things.
Did I mention it's a near future dystopia and that corporations run everything?

Re:Why would people be lazy?
Then you are a communist.
I am not a mindless person influenced by propoganda but can prove what happens if you take away incentive for farmers as an example to produce.
Soviet Union failed because there were no incentives to work hard if no reward would come. People who get unemployment checks typically do not work hard getting another job until it is about out according to statistics. Yes some brilliant and passionate individuals would seek. Most would do things that society would not need and resources will go unallocated just like that video above showed.
Karl Marx never even had a job and had an inheritance. He knew little how the real world worked. Also a strong government is needed to enslave and force people to work which is tyranny where the point of communism was lost in the 1st place just to get some productivity up.

Re:I've got nothing against Bill Nye
Nothing the leading denialists say comes from observations
Here are observations of real weather engineering going on right before your eyes. It's know-it-alls like you who chose to do no actual research and thus have zero valid opinions.
and nothing they claim is later verified experimentally.
Nothing anyone on either side of the "climate debate" can be verified experimentally while we are manipulating the weather, dufus. You're not even in the general direction of a valid topic on the climate issue. You should be asking why none of the "Climate Scientists" are correcting for the existing weather modification programs. And you should be asking not only who is paying for and benefiting from all the nice engineered weather, but also HOW MUCH they benefit, and whether or not they they sometimes make mistakes, like when we accidentally flooded Houston last week...
We haven't had natural weather patterns in about three decades, and that's OK. You shouldn't be scared or indignant about it. You're welcome. Ignorant, but welcome.
-
Weather Modification Skews Results
How can Climate Scientist get any useful data when we are modifying the weather.
There are hundreds of Weather Modification programs such as this one in south Texas. That's just cloud seeding or "chemtrails" as some conspiracy theorists call them (video of spray nozzle). Sometimes the weather modification uses fuel additives, sometimes they use aluminum particles, these sprays can be turned on and off in mid flight. We also coordinate massive vapor releases from power plants to promote storms. I've seen evidence of directional energy systems that can heat the clouds to create greater temperature differentials. Some heat the particles we spray, others heat the ionosphere. Basically they're just larger versions of this.
Forgive me for not being alarmed. We control the weather to a great degree. Of course the media is silent on this -- liability from floods alone would be a nightmare if the general populace knew who to sue. We are creating the warmer weather and nicer climates by inducing greenhouse effect via metallic particles, not CO2. Until these factors are eliminated, I can't trust any "Climate Study" which doesn't mention correcting for the extensive weather manipulation going on. Hint: They're just trying to scare you into accepting some global tax. (this time it's a "Carbon Tax" on all items and labor the UN is shooting for). FFS, they already sell weather manipulation derivatives.
The climate debate is not over whether or not we should do something about climate change, it's about whether or not we should do MORE or LESS weather manipulation. We were afraid of "global cooling" remember that? Well, we did something about it! It's working quite well! Don't buy into scaremongering. That's just the UN and others trying to manufacture consent to accept new legislation.
If you're not educated on weather manipulation then you've been duped and your opinion on the climate is baseless. Time to get educated folks. Let's just take a deep breath, relax, let your fear pass over and through you, and where it has gone only healthy skepticism should remain. It's all going to be OK, we know what we're doing, we've been controlling Weather with Science for decades. We could probably even solve the problem of massive volcanic plumes or asteroid ash blocking out the sun. Everything is going to be OK. Hell, I haven't even told you about our secret space program's capabilities...

Re:Makes perfect sense..
FALSE.
There is only one version of Islam, and that is the Islam of Mohammed. Everything that ISIS is doing is based *exactly* on what Mohammed did. Killing non-Muslims is condoned in the Koran and practiced by Mohammed. The quest to conquer the World was commanded by Mohammed (Koran 9:29 and 9:5). Beheadings were practiced by Mohammed. Pedophilia was practiced by Mohammed with Aisa bint Abu Bakr and Hussan and Hussein bin Ali according to the hadith. Sex slavery follows the Koran (Koran 4:3) and the example of Mohammed with Maria the Copt, Safiyya and others. etc etc etc.
This is why Al Azhaar University in Cairo (the highest source of Sunni and Shia jurisprudence) refuses to declare ISIS as un-Islamic, because it cannot! The Islamic State (Caliphate) is following *exactly* what Mohammed did.
Critical in the study of Islam is understanding the Doctrine of Abrogation. If you don't know this then you do not understand Islam at all. Fortunately for the Free World many Muslims are good human beings that don't understand Islam at all. Unfortunately for the Free World the pious Muslims that do understand Islam are very, very bad human beings.
What I don't understand is how so many Slashdotters make strong statements about what they assume Islam to be, without ever studying the life of Mohammed or the actual teachings of Islam (not the propaganda version intended to neutralize the Free World).
Bonus: the best news about Islam is that recent archeological scholarship shows that Islam is completely fictional and man-made (this should be obvious, but in this day and age to many these facts are not). The archeology and Koranic scholarship show that the claims of Islam about its origins CANNOT be true. Thus, since Islam is a totalitarian theocratic political ideology (with some superstition sprinkled on top) and not a "personal faith" it is morally just to oppose the Islamic World (Dar al-Islam) fighting to impose Sharia (Islamic Law) by force on Muslims and all non-Muslims alike. Check out the evidence against Islam based on archeology (sorry, this is presented by a Christian apologist as they're the ones paying attention - we atheists have been asleep at the wheel when it comes to Islam, and even some atheists bend over forwards to make excuses for jihadis !!!):
"An Historical Critique of Islam's Beginnings"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...The archeological evidence now shows Islam was created by Caliph (Arab Emperor) Abd al-Malik in order to advance Arab Imperialism. And thanks to the incompetent "leadership" of the Free World this imperialism is advancing rapidly again (for the third and possibly final time as the 57 member Organization of Islamic Cooperation seeks to fulfill their Islamic mandate to conquer the whole World and subjugate all non-Muslims into the Islamic political order).
If you don't understand the meanings of the following words then you are not qualified to talk about Islam: taqiyya/muruna/tawriya/kitman; abrogation (nasik wal mansouk), al jihad al asgher versus al jihad al akhbar; the Sunna; the Sira;Reliance of the Traveller; ijtihad; Al Mahdi; takfir and fitna.

Re:The Purpose of a Phone
The Sprint logo is designed to resemble one of their most famous ads from when they were a long-distance company: this. It's the bouncing pin. And yes, you really could hear that level of detail. We have gained a lot in flexibility, but quality has gone to hell. 1990s long-distance circuits sounded like you were in the same room. 2010s local calls sound like you're at the bottom of the ocean.

Re:Perfect cover
Sounds like a perfect cover, all missiles never work, everything fails. They will never be a threat. Thats a pretty good track record, 0 success, everything blows up after a perfect launch. Build up a working arsenal, while everyone thinks nothing works. Nobody expects the fool.
At least they had a perfect launch, unlike some people..
(old footage, I know, still funny though..) -
Re: We don't want data caps.
There are a ton of QOS type tools that work much better than caps. Probably one of the best is where there are different buckets.
I think some ISPs use this method to calculate buckets.

Re:44?
Some people are just not good looking, and some people look old before their time, but I saw the video and neither applies in the case of Liz Parrish. I suspect that the real problem here is that you're an asshole.

You kids with your loud music, and your Dan Fogelberg, your zima, hula hoops, and Pac-Man video games
Hey! I was one of those kids. Zima watered down with tequila though. I'll raise you Dan Fogelberg Longer and Nether Lands on vinyl though a high fidelity amplifier and with full head headphones to hear it.
