Re:Several serious logical flaws
Next you cannot simulate a universe as complex as ours inside our universe since such a system must have as many possible states as our universe.
This makes me think of the Banach-Tarski paradox. I don't claim to understand it by any means, but it's a proof where you can take a geometric object, break it into pieces, and reconstruct 2 objects identical to the original, without adding anything. There's a pretty interesting Vsauce video about it.
What if, through some complex mathematics, it is possible to simulate the entire universe using only part of the universe?

Re: Please stop drinking the Koolaid
You say that you are not a troll, but then you link to a troll video. It makes the bogus claim that Bill Nye wants to Clinton to become president so she can get the DOJ to start filing criminal charges and imprisoning global warming skeptics. He then refers to the interview in which he did not mention Hillary Clinton, nor anything about her directing the DOJ to do anything. He did not mention skeptics, and was only talking about company executives who produce the anti-science FUD that they know is incorrect (just like the Enron and tobacco execs).
Here is what else it gets wrong. The word "denier" is not reserved for discussions about holocaust, and to suggest other wise is just being manipulative. But being offended by that term doesn't stop him from calling liberals "fascists". It doesn't stop him from saying that the leftist, tyrannical government will start imprisoning THEN EXTERMINATING Christians!! He then reveals that it is all being directed by Lucifer. Being called a denier seems rather tame compared that vitriol.
I could end there, but there are other lies in the video that need correction. The claim that the leaked emails from Climategate showed that the data had been fabricated and fudged gets traced back to a the choice of a single word in one email. Pretty flimsy. According to NASA, the term global warming was first used in a 1975 paper entitled "Climatic Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?". Both terms were used together right from the start.
Then there is the ultimate of trolls - 1998. The initial claims were that it was getting colder since 1998, then it was that the warming had stopped, and now the deniers have to say that there is "no significant warming" since that year. And yet the temperature records keep getting broken. And why are people so focused on that one period? If you look at the temperature graphs since modern records began, it is easy to find other periods when the graph levels out, and even goes down substantially. Those periods have never signaled the end of the warming trend. I can't imagine that anyone who uses this claim has not seen a similar graph to the one that I linked above, so why do they think that looking at such a short time frame will be indicative of any trend. The answer must be that they either want to mislead us or they are genuinely stupid and are willing to cherry-pick any data that they can find to match their preconceived ideas.

Re:Apple is but one symptom
Actually it is individuals who shouldn't be paying any income taxes. Taxable income is actually profit and only corporations have profits, individuals don't have profits unless they can depreciate their own bodies, time, deduct expenses such as food, shelter, etc.
I don't think there's any "should" about this. One can easily argue it's best to tax a company, a person, both, or neither.
If you want to talk about which one promotes more social good, I'm inclined to tax individuals and not companies. Eventually all the money a company earns flows back to individuals (either as dividends, capital gains, or ordinary income). IMHO, it's better to tax the individuals because it makes the cost of government crystal clear. Politicians and populists like to tax corporations because it makes it harder to see who's actually bearing the burden of paying for our government.
People don't make profits? I trade my time and energy for a paycheck. Clearly the money is worth more to me than my time. In what sense is that not a profit? I suppose if I wanted to do a profit and loss statement the same a business I'd want deductions but I really don't see a point.
In reality in America the IRS collects income taxes illegally from individuals.
Illegally? How do you figure that? There's a constitutional amendment and statutes in place to make it, by definition, legal. Immoral or counterproductive, perhaps, but not illegal.

Wrong. The collapse of the American economy was predicted a very long time ago for the exact reasons that make the basis for your societal and economic ideology.
Just to be clear, at the same time there were people predicting a new era of wealth and happiness.
Economics is like that - you can always find someone who correctly predicted something (after the fact).

genital mutilation a possible factor
I can't help but wonder if some of the depression could be related to genital mutilation which is rampant in the United States. Although female minors have had Federal protection from genital mutilation since 1997, the latest figures from the CDC suggest that genital mutilation is inflicted on over three thousand male and intersex children each day. This impacts over one million children per year.
The US is one of the few Western countries where genital mutilation is so widespread. With the advent of the Internet, it has become much easier over the last couple decades for survivors to learn about all that was lost.

Exhale C02? You are runing the Earth!
The IPCC is a totally discredited organization that lied about their data with their infamous Hockey Stick Graph. Immediately the NOAA and NASA was replaced with the NOAA and NASA as the front-men to push the false Science in this agenda.
Even today the weather channel founder slams UN climate claims stating the 'Basic theory failed'... Understand who the UN are , how they were formed, and why they were formed (global government agenda).
More and more people are waking to the political and financial agendas behind why this agenda is being pushed by the usual gang of idiots.

And on a semi-related note, presidential candidate Donald Trump said in January he'd like to make Apple "start building their damn computers and things in this country instead of other countries."
Because these are the kinds of working conditions people like Trump and Sanders want for Americans. Will the suicide nets be tax deductible for American factories?
At least we can all sigh in relief that the people assembling these devices will have free college education. Thank you, Trump/Sanders! You only want the best for America!

Re:Mmmmm not quite...
there was no holocaust as such until 1942, which is 9 years after the Nazis got into power.
That's because the holocaust was just black propaganda used against the National Socialists who wanted to deport the trouble making, terrorist bombing, Marxist supporting Jews to madagascar -- since no other country would take them. England and Span and a host of other countries had already evicted the Jews in the past, and didn't want them back.
It's no mystery to historians why so many germans said they knew nothing of "the holocaust" death camps -- they didn't exist. Any amount of fact checking reveals this is true. Even the historians who believe the death camps were real do not believe the 6 million figure.
The problem with Germany was that they freed themselves from the usury of private central banks, and thus had to be taught a lesson. Germany was destitute and starving, crime and prostitution was rampant, but In just 5 years Hitler turned Germany into a world super power. The people were not duped, they loved the man because he saved them from the banks.... and they are now slandered in every form of media because of this. Jews own the media, and the Rothschild Jews run the Fed, World Bank, and Bank of England. (none of these are owned by nations, they're all private central banks). Since the world fought against Hitler, his war is now your war, against the same corrupt people spreading lies and stealing your wealth.

Re:Horrible Music
I find the when my guitar gently weeps video quite awkward. Prince is on stage the whole time but he isn't in the shot until all of the sudden, he steps forward and the spotlight is pointed at him. Also, the contrast between the guitarist soloing in the first half of the song and Prince was too extreme, to the point of being embarrassing. Also, I think, apart from his own awesome work that isn't available on social media, his cover of Radiohead's Creep show of his skills much better:

Re:I still don't get it?
It's a lightfield display. It's not so much that they project onto your retina (like single-lens optics do), but that they use a microlens array to project light from multiple angles & focal lengths, allowing your eyes to refocus naturally and eliminating the accommodation-vergence conflict issue. It also helps the virtual image to blend much more naturally into the real world.
Downsides are decreased resolution (though they seem to have that under control), and greatly increased computation requirements. I don't expect their consumer offering to be untethered any time soon, but it's quite possible they've been spending all that seed capital on dedicated ASICs to help with that.

Re:Why buy consoles that aren't above and beyond?
FYI: The PS3 in OtherOS mode was completely useless for gaming as the system's GPU was locked out by the hypervisor. Sony predicted your statement as a possibility and handicapped that possibility long before it became a reality.
It's also the real reason Sony pulled the plug on OtherOS. As without the GPU, running even 2D compositing was a no-go, and most modern linux distros wouldn't run well with it. So eventually he-who-shall-not-be-named fsfksf--GEOHOT--slfsmf and others started hacking the hypervisor to re-enable the GPU for linux. Sony didn't like this because, unbeknownst to everyone else at the time, the hypervisor was the only "security"* feature that they implemented correctly, and disabling it would allow *eventual* access and control of GameOS. So to hide their screw up, and prevent future issues in GameOS, Sony pulled support for OtherOS.
* Note: I used the quotes because as FailOverflow pointed out, the PS3 Hypervisor is for sandboxing OSes. Not implementing security. Also I would recommend watching the video of their presentation on the matter at 27C3 (Couldn't find the original video, sorry.) if anyone wanted a better rundown on the security issues the PS3 had.
Totally agree with the rest of your statement though. I just wish manufacturers would quit screwing up their platforms. (Sony and the PS4 Neo, Nintendo and the however many 3DS models it has, ports that are so inferior to the original that it shames the system it was ported to, DLC for half the content that you throw money into a blackhole for. (Because you can't even backup the local data anymore, much less install it without the manufacturer's blessing.), subscription based multiplayer (Bad Sony, Bad.), long install / update times, broken HDCP requirements (Can't turn on the PS4 because my display is HDMI 1.2 not 1.4), etc.) Consoles are supposed to be about ease of use. That's their main draw, both for developers and gamers. Take that away and it's no surprise that people are looking elsewhere.

Re:Horrible Music
You can say many things about Prince, but "talentless hack" isn't among them.
I think that his fame came more from singing and songwriting, but Prince was greatly underappreciated as a guitarist.
Proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y
His solo starts at about 3:26. I recommend watching it from the beginning, because it's a wonderful tribute.
His solo is exquisite, in my opinion, at times at the forefront, extending, expanding upon the lyrics and melody while never overwhelming either, and at times also complementing them, moving back and forth until the end.
No showboating, I think, but verve, gusto, pure enjoyment and musicianship. He was asked there to play, and to solo, and he did both masterfully.
Watch/listen it in its entirety, once. Then just listen to it.
As you watch it, note that Prince is not only soloing GREAT, playing well, he's also engaged with the other musicians. He knows the song, knows that he's playing with some of the best musicians in the rock world and is aware of all of that as he plays.
And you can TELL that he's having a blast being there. He's playing his best, and I think that the others in the band recognize it.
As you just listen, note how well what he plays fits, both solo and together with the rest of the band. Clean, complex, precise, not a missed note, nor a note played that doesn't fit the song overall in some way.
At one point he just vanishes, merges back into the song with the band and then emerges again.
Wonderful!
All that being said, I was never a huge Prince fan over the years, but that video gave me a new appreciation of him, when I first watched it, years ago.
As to whether or not his death deserves to be of note on Slashdot? The most relevant justification would be Prince's stance on digital copyright, and I don't care to discuss that.
I made the mistake of doing that in general here, years ago, and I shan't revisit that here ever again.
All that being said: Say what you will of Prince, but don't ever say he was a "talentless hack".
Regards,
dj -
