And apparently drunk.
That godless 12-step program acknowledges that you can't do it alone, and includes getting backup from real people. If you can't get sober without help from God, then it's impossible to get sober, because He doesn't exist.
All religions are intolerant of each other, because each religion defines a mutually-exclusive lock on a God they believe exists....
That's a very generalistic and I could say uninformed view. People are intolerant, yes, but not necessarily religions. As a matter of fact, for the most part, the leading minds behind most religions teach tolerance, acceptance, love and the like. It's just not what the people who follow tend to practice.
Lewis stated that Christians should find some truth to their own faith in all religions, and Muslim teachings refer to Jews and Christians, respectfully, as "people of the book." There are very few instances where the hallmark figures in any world religions taught murder and killing as any means to further the faith, yet history is replete with it.
Even in godless systems, the leading thinkers behind it would have been appalled at how future figures would carry it out. Would Marx really have approved of the practices of Stalin or Mao Tse Tung?
Honestly, what system or government or religion has ever been perfect or lived up to what its founders wished? None. But such things are a testimony to the imperfect nature of humanity more than to the failure of the religion....
.....Better question: Why don't we find any rabbit fossils in the pre-cambrian layers? Do rabbits just not sink as deeply into the mud, or did they arrive later via some as yet unexplained path?.....
:-)! like an ancient wheelbarrow evolving into a modern automobile. If living systems, even at the molecular, cellular levels are compared to machines, they are unbelievably advanced. I am an engineer, not a biologist, but I am greatly impressed by the incredible engineering evidenced by living devices like the eyes and ears. The radar (sonar really) of bats is an incredible feat of engineering. The navigation systems of migratory birds and insects still hold deep mysteries in their operation. The fact that wales seem to be able to communicate via sub-sonic waves over vast distances is a relatively new discovery. How did some of the complex, multi-host parasitic and symbiotic relationships evolve? Does metamorphosis of a what most people term an ugly caterpillar crawling on a leaf, becoming a beautiful, iridescent butterfly destined for the sunny spring skies, point to something far greater for us humans in an entirely different existence and dimension?
All of the various fossil finds and their supposed indications of evolution don't give me that much problem. The big problem in my mind with evolution is its idea of simple structures "evolving" into the incredible complex biological systems we see today. It is (another dumb automobile analogy
I believe that there is some merit to the idea of evolution, but it fails to satisfy my sense as an engineer that all this complexity came to be without the direct activity of a great mind. There is no way of course to "prove" or "disprove" the existence of God, but the natural world to me speaks of a designer, an "engineer" if you will, who conceived and executed this marvelous design of the entire cosmos, both living and non-living. I want to believe that there is a purpose to my existence and it somehow ties in with the purpose for which God designed all these marvels in the first place. The Bible presents a much more satisfying view of our existence, purpose and destiny that any other religion or philosophy. Evolution's godless explanation of how things came to be and its ultimate purposelessness is not very satisfying, neither spiritually nor intellectually. The expensive SETI search testifies that there are others that hope that we are not alone in a cosmos that apart from God seems to have no specific direction and purpose.
Yes. I too hate those godless liberal terrorist lovers who undermine our way of life with their politically correct poor spelling! Obviously they are trying to avoid hurting the feelings of immigrants who refuse to learn English when they come to this country. They think there's no "right" way of spelling, its all just relative. And relativism, as we all know, is really a kind of terrorism.
As Neo-facists gain control of top level government facilities,
American citizens' rights vanish in the all encompassing grasp.
If the government want's to find out what is on the internet,
it should pay $$$ a contractor to do it's web crawling for them,
at market rates, not attempt to steal corporate information off of google, Yahoo, MSN and America Online.
Want to protect children from bad language, violence, and nudity on cable tv?
Don't subscribe to cable tv, give them a bicycle.
Want to protect children from violent video games?
Don't buy them an Xbox or PS2 - give them a football.
Want to protect children from the internet?
Don't give them a computer, buy them a book.
(Or even an encyclopedia )
Want to protect you children from drugs, gansta hip hop violence, and peer pressure? Home school the little guys - forget public education.
Want to protect children from lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
Be a responsible parent.
The government can't solve the problem,
because avoiding personal parental responsibility and expecting the government to take the place of parents - that IS the problem.
Oh, and it helps if mommy and daddy are actually married to each other and love one another. Families - an old fashioned value, but it has worked so well for thousands of years of human civilization. Why are so many people giving up on the idea of families now?
But that's okay because in 50 years it won't matter with the European birthrate being something like 0.2 children per couple because after all, sex is just exercise. They don't actually expect to have families or anything. God forbid! Europe will be an extension of the Middle East by then, given birthrates and immigration patterns. Then with Islam being the dominant cultural force, maybe we'll see a restoration of the importance of family and the proper role of sex in Europe. Maybe.
Once we have the bulk of the population under the regulatory oversight of the criminal justice system we'll be able to force those godless, indecent hoardes into our nice, Republican cookie-cutter mold of outward piety and ethical lip service.
Long live the Republican party! Long live the Justice Department!
As long as they're vastly more powerful than us, it is usually to their advantage to create problems for you that you may (or may not) pay to make go away. I finally paid a lawyer over $5,000 to correct MBNA's refusal to stop reporting credit fraud as mine. Once the 100 page brief was filed with the court and MBNA saw that there would be financial consequences, they finally backed off.
There's a huge difference between what's illegal and what's prosecuted.
Hmmm... from the comic:
Ah, yes, I see it now, all the drooling venom from these godless commies... Get real. Despite what is peddled these days, not all criticism is a mad attack. The comic is in fact quite clear that copyright serves a social good and that the system is not intrinsically flawed.
Take your own jeremiad somewhere else.
Oh, and postnote based on the postscript:
Oh my god. Unlike you, I am all for indoctrinating our nation's children in the ways and methodologies of godless communism. But quiche? They go too far.
Terrorist financing is so hard to "track down" because the money moves through rich, powerful hands. Like banks and governments. To whom their terrorist customers are more important than the lives and liberty of "someone else's customers", like millions of civilians. Those "transfer agents", in turn, are more important to the governments tracking them down than are their own citizens.
Why would George Bush threaten the safety of the Saudi royalty just for the benefit of a bunch of godless New Yorkers? Especially when he doesn't need to do so to get elected? He's a proper good ol' boy, and so is Bandar Bush. And so (they think) are the people who keep them in power.
Why Mr. Scientist, whatever do you mean? Slashdot is the most godless concentration of "infidels" on the planet! :P In fact I'm gutted not to see more responses from less-jaded science freaks.
Am I the only one concerned that those who believe in the Rapture are currently in the position to make it happen? Bush and Blair have now both admitted to "seeking the advice of God" when choosing to invade another country. They also believe that when the end comes, the rightous will accend to heaven and all will be good. All this can be theirs if they just push the world into WW3. Personally, I don't think anyone who believes in the afterlife should be allowed to send soldiers to their death. People who believe in eternal life just don't value real life enough.
By the way, the same applies to all religions that exhibit violent behaviour. The three big religious brands are just as bad as each other. They all teach that their sect is superiour to others, and that the godless ones must be converted at all costs. Some even specifically mention other religions and place their believers as being worth less than cattle.
Religion is evolutionary. The peaceful ones were gobbled up years ago by the monopolists that now control the market. Does the vatican issue shares? I want a piece of that action...
Nice to have the PA on the job again protecting me from terrorist. Now if we could pass an act to deport the Godless Hippies...
What changed? The Soviet Union fell. Without the godless commies to rally America against, we had to choose a new "evil" to use as a scapegoat. Terrorism is the new Communism.
Exactly how is that something a "good" person/group would do?
I suspect they are responsible for the lack of good shows on TV, also.
How is it that not wanting to believe in a creator is being narrow minded, while believing in one and not wanting to delve deeper is considered "open minded." I feel like your argument is just another intelligent designists last-ditch efford to stick "God" into an otherwise godless universe.
Please respond. Is The Economist now a Godless leftist rag?
Sharks are godless killing machines, and need to be stopped.
Sharks -- you're on notice.
