What I am trying to say is that the analogy fails because it implies atheism requires inaction or no thought. At some point an atheist has concluded that the evidence for atheism is great enough to accept it as their current paradigm (or that all other evidence for contrary paradigms is weak enough).

The English word "Atheism" comes from a French word (of Greek origin). As a French guy (born and educated in France, but currently living in the United States), I do believe I know a little more French than you do (or even a little more Greek for that matter).

Atheism(e) means "without god" (or "godless"). There is no talk of proof, or evidence, it's not like one can prove a negative anyway. At least, "without god" is what it used to mean, and it still means that in France right now. And fine, I understand that language evolves, and language changes over time, especially in America or with English. That said, there is still a large section (if not most) of American atheists who still use that word in its original sense. So if you or your church are going to change the meaning of the English language, that's fine, feel free to call us anything you want, or explain it however you want. After all this is not France/French, it's not like you're going to have the language police, or some historical society, show up angrily on your doorsteps. So call us agnostics, no-gnostics, anti-god, infidels, assholes, idiots, or whatever... just don't expect all of us to agree to it (or use it on ourselves, although some of us may -- many of us just won't).

The EMAC Server-In-a-Box (SIB) runs Linux as its Operating System and as such retains all of the networking and communications capabilities one would expect of such an operating system. Right out of the box, the SIB is configured for Ethernet, serial IP, serial terminal, and raw serial connections. Other devices, including PPP modem links, may be added and configured by the user.

Configuring network devices for a minimal GNU/Linux system can be difficult. As such, EMAC has created a menu-driven configuration utility, which greatly simplifies configuration of SIB services, network interfaces, and communications ports.

The Rugged SIB is specially designed to live in harsh environments. No Fans, no Hard Drive, and a completely sealed case (with exception of Compact Flash access) allows the Rugged SIB to survive where other computers can't. The Rugged SIB is just as comfortable in a basement wiring closet as it is on a desktop.

EMAC, has been manufacturing SBCs since 1985 and has been installing our own distribution of Linux in our Embedded Servers since 1998. We know Linux and we know the problems customers have in utilizing Linux. To address this, EMAC has put together a rock solid Embedded Linux distribution and a Robust Eclipse Integrated Development (IDE) package. This IDE provides GCC Cross compiler, Libraries, GDB debugger, Editor, and Project Manager all integrated into the Eclipse framework which includes sample projects. With EMAC's IDE library linking is made easy even when compiling against older libraries. Purchase a EMAC SBC with Linux or uClinux and you should be up, running and building applications the first day.

The DBA for some GODLESS reason decided to go get Taco Bell and a Dairy Queen dipped Cone. He ate the Taco Bell and the icecream. The SOB was lactose intolerant or something because between the TB and DQ the room smelled with a rotting stench that anyone "who has sat through an autopsy (twice here) on a dead guy who's refigeration unit was about 10 degrees too warm" could appreciate. Now any saine individual would have bolted for the door but as the DBA was cracking wind the AC guys had a ladder in front of the door while working in the dropdown ceiling. It's not so long ago the threat was from the communists, the slogan was "better dead than red" and the real perceived problem with the communists was that they were "godless". A lot of my inlaws were killed by the Chinese during the cultural revolution. This isn't a "potential threat" that doesn't yet exist, this is something real that people of my generation lived through and that hasn't gone away yet. The most cursory examination of 20th century history would tell you that the problem isn't religion, the problem is blind ideology whatever flavour it comes in, and I'm no happier to be killed by a right- or left-wing extremist atheist than I am being killed by a religious fundamentalist.

Go figure.

I blame obese conservative wankers in suits who think that sex only exists on Sunday evenings through a hole in a sheet, when absolutely necessary, and between a married man and woman in their late 30s who don't actually know each other anymore.
